Happy birthday to Pink Floyd's Roger!
choo-choo-charlie replied to tinnitus photography's topic in Someone Else's Song
Well don't I feel silly. -
I really enjoy this song, particularly how in the first chorus the accented notes/chords are all played in sync, then the second time around, it becomes completely chaotic. Love my good old Wilco breakdowns.

Anyone interested in a Being There guitar/tab book?

Arranged for piano, guitar and voice, it says. -
It's in "Learning How to Die."

Paste it in here. Not in the thread sub-title.

A-MEN.

But it's not his birthday, although he's in a birthday suit. It's Syd's. -
John, piano? Hmm...don't think I recall that either. I remember reading the credits from Being There for the first time and being impressed that all of Wilco's members were credited with multiple instruments. Then I learned that they all switched instruments for the intro to "Misunderstood."

Plus he's got a few pedals. Just a few.

Um, Syd? -
Either way, I'm on the same page: I love Jeff's electric guitar work. When he carried the bulk of it, 2001-2003, Wilco was in the beginning stages of shifting to an entirely new way of making music. 'twas a special time.

Just posted that over here: http://viachicago.org/topic/47075-been-posted/. Cool footage.

In small measures - not as primary instruments. Max was on the fiddle. I agree.

Check out the live recordings circa 2002-2003 when the AGIB material began appearing. Jeff plays some lovely, messy solos. The four-piece lineup was in 2001 after YHF, I thought. In 2002 they expanded to a five-piece when Jorgensen joined. That's what I love about it. It's all feeling.

I remember when I downloaded those shows and listened for the first time. That was my exact reaction! Bob's biggest asshole moment might have been falling off the stage in the 3:06 mark in this oft-shared clip.

I'm sorry I didn't recognize your sarcasm font. Should've picked up on that. But you have a great point. C'mon Bob! Update the site. Can you image what that record would sound like with those adornments? Wouldn't work.

I think you mean this Bob: http://www.bobegan.com/

I think I need to revisit this one. Baby 81 was a bit of a letdown after Howl I still really love the self-titled record.

Or you can grab this for $25: http://wilco.kungfustore.com/category/29-books/product/332-wilco-songbook-wil03 -
Technically, since the song is in the key of G, it'd be an F# -- same difference. The above tabs are pretty good. Personally, I try not to get too concerned with playing every exact note correctly when covering Wilco tunes -- sometimes it's fun to put your own little licks in there!

The only thing I can think of is the quote from Max in "Learning How to Die" when he said something about his diminished role around the time of recording Being There, that they were moving away from the alt-country sounds and using the studio more -- and he was becoming more of a 'background color' guy instead of a soloist. And he said something like "Jay's telling Jeff, you don't need Max anymore..." As for Bob, I think that was a group decision. Also remember reading that in the book. They had the roadies sabotage Bob's gear because he kept turning his amp up too loud. If you go back an

Is it really punk rock?
