  1. I recently learned Turtles carry salmonella so Wilco is better, least it won't kill you anyway.
  2. Yeah. It was basically a random number. Perhaps a percentage of a player's salary would be a more fair way to charge. Still, this contract and pay for Jaramillo is unusual. Most coaches do not make this kind of coin. Working independently would probably more lucrative and secure than working for a team year to year, hoping the management doesn't change. Plus they could have home-based work, see the family more.
  3. Dennis Lehane has done a review of James Crumley's The Last Good Kiss. In the editor's note it states that Lehane is currently working on a follow-up to Gone, Baby, Gone. I'm not sure what can be done to extend that story, but I hope he'll follow-up on Mystic River. I see much potential for a continuation there. Lehane has also contibuted to and edited Boston Noir, due for release in November 2009.
  4. The Cubs have hired the game's premier hitting instructor in Rudy Jaramillo and gave him a three year, $2.4M contract. The Rangers only offered him a one year deal after 15 years of excellence. I've always wondered why guys like this (Mazzone, Duncan, Kerrigan, etc.) don't act as consultants to individual players. They could make a fortune charging players $100,000 a year or more acting as personal instructors for 20-25 guys.
  5. Does this mean that jasonwalston can also play it live, but not record it for release?
  6. As much as I want Joe Mauer to win the AL MVP, Teixeira will probably get extra votes for making the Rangers a contender by not being there anymore.
  7. If they aren't, then they ought to be.
  8. I'm a straight man, but I'm completely down with her on this matter. Listening to Chelsea Walls soundtrack ~ Opening Credits and Red Elevator ~ and The Wilco Book cd makes me wish the band would feature alot more Glenn and a little less guitar.
  9. Vin Scully is indeed the greatest sports broadcaster ever, but I miss Harry Kalas, especially right now.
  10. Journalism student drug by train after getting his pants caught by the train during a mooning incident.
  11. I've never seen a Lamborghini dealership in my life. Where are they? L.A.?
  12. Sounds like the content of Craig Ferguson's book (& life) before he had to quit drinking.
  13. After the Krakauer book, I've jumped in two different directions:
  14. The only people slower than a 60-some-year-old Rusty Staub are dead ones.
  15. One advantage the Angels will have on the Red Sox will be that they run alot and the Red Sox catchers cannot throw Rusty Staub out. If they get on, they will steal at will. The Rockies' catcher, Torrealba, is just as bad. He only threw out 14 baserunners all season. Today he tried to throw a runner out at third with a left-handed hitter up, and, despite having a quick release and nobody blocking his throwing angle, almost threw the ball into the left field corner. Defense usually becomes a significant factor in the post-season.
  16. I knew the Twins have been to the playoffs a few times the last few years, but I didn't realize they have half of the Central Division titles this decade. Very impressive, but I guess it's easy to not realize their accomplishments because they haven't been to WS with all those titles. Kind of a shame, really. The Twins do things right. I'm disappointed I didn't get to see/listen to tonight's game. It sounded exciting, and I bet it was loud as all Hell, too!
  17. That's the gospel right there. With the over-saturation of entertainment mediums these days nobody is given time to hone their talents anymore. Singers, comics, hell, even pro wrestlers are just put on stage well before the age of 25 and are expected to excel at the get-go. Used to be performers would work their respective circuits, developing characters, timing, etc. and weren't put near center stage (unless they were there to support an established talent) until they were well versed in their craft. Most of the great SNL'ers, singers, bands, wrestlers, actors and comics didn't hit until
  18. When you have a tongue like Gene Simmons you can pretty much suck anything you'd like. hubba hubba
  19. It's becoming a yearly tradition, not that I'm complaining (other than the fact I'm working). One of the most exciting games I've watched was the Rockies topping the Padres two years ago.
  20. Someone on XM this morning cracked A-Rod had more RBI in one inning yesterday than he'll have the entire postseason. Funny, yeah, but I think he'll probably do better this year with Teixiera and not having to play in a museum anymore.
  21. "Omaha" is played during warmups, right before the national anthem, at every home game of the East Carolina University baseball team. Omaha, Nebraska and the College World Series, of course, being the goal of every top collegiate baseball program.
