I understand Israel has the ultimate airport security techniques. They check and search everything, up to and including anal probes. -

No longer lost in translation. -
I agree with you, friend.

I used to see this kid on campus who looked like a young, pimply version of Glen, and there used to be a bartender at the local Applebee's who looked like Jeff Tweedy from the Uncle Tupelo days (The resemblence was so uncanny I couldn't stop staring at him. He probably thought I was gay!).

Those career years during free agent years sure do pay off nicely.

I completed a personal goal for this decade!

In that order, right? -
Last night I heard "I'm Like a Bird." I don't remember if that's from the 90's or the zero's, but I'll always remember hating it.

The current Mets are the Orioles from pre-Andy McPhail during this entire past decade. They are signing random stars, placing them alongside medicore players, and not reinforcing the team with depth: no bench nor a line of prospects on the way. The Mets are what I call an "if" team: "If" about a dozen scenarios happen they will make the playoffs. It just doesn't happen. The Mets have too many problems for a guy on the back end of his prime to make a significant difference. Miquel Tejeda had a couple of great seasons in Baltimore, but it didn't make a difference. They had no depth, no prospects

He won't suck. He will be better than every other option available, but that is another long commitment for the Mets to take on. Bay can be prone to prolonged slumps, as the two month long one he had last summer (hence the BA in the .250's), not to mention the entire 2007 season in Pittsburgh. For that kind of coin a more consistent player with athletic defensive ability is more warranted to play LF in Citi Field. Or at least a left-handed power hitter that won't have to suffer the way Wright did last season. Remember, it's always those last couple of years that come back to cripple a team's b

For Bay the difference may have been the reported , but not yet verified, fifth year option. That could up the Sox offer by about $20M, not six, if he stays for the fifth year. Still, I think it's fool's gold. Both sides may regret this within a couple of years.

Yeah, I'd say you're off to a great start. Oh, and welcome to the board!

I remember the Yanks not wanting to give him up in the Randy Johnson trade, but he was the only way the Bombers would have been able to land The Big Unit. As the #4 starter Vazquez doesn't have the same pressure this time, plus he is more experienced now. Great Theo Epstein-from-five-years-ago-style trade by Cashman.

Day game against the Nationals (means plenty of seats) the following Monday, the 12th. Hmm. Perhaps a long weekend will do. -
I am not a liar! I swear! And we never had a Grandparents Day in elementary school (which is good because Granny would have NEVER made up all those stairs). Where the hell is Dennis Lehane on this list?

Just finished the Watterson book today. While I would not call it a great inspection of Watterson and his fantastic work, I will call it a good work. I don't know what the criticism is on Martell's current work. I take all non-fiction with a grain of salt, so reviews of the genre hold no water for me. The biggest obstacle Martell faced in his research was lack of access to his subject. Watterson's reclusiveness dates further back than his retirement. He did very few interviews during his carreer and virtually nothing has been heard from him since he called it quits. And this is all by design

Nothing has made sense this Hot Stove season. Perhaps this is the Bizzaro Hot Stove; but then again, wait a year. The collective bargaining agreement will be up after the 2011 season. Unless an agreement is reached , I can imagine the owners speaking of using caution in long-term contract negotiations before the 2011 season, which will make the players so very happy.

You are not alone, my friend.
