I wonder what Dr. Freud would think of this.

The 30 steals are impressive, too. There is a skill to it, not just speed. If I remember right Jordan was playing very well by season's end. I believe all three of his homers came in the last month. And yeah, AA is a high level. Anybody else would be in low A at best. It would have interesting to see a 21-year-old Jordan playing centerfield.

How the hell does a player get into the Hall of Fame with stats like this?
-
I never defended (Good pun. Right?) the Gold Glove Award or the process. I just stated what happened at the time based on interviews that I remember from certain managers at the time. I know it's flawed and inconsistent. Stats may be helpful in the process, but so long as managers vote, they're going to go by reputation and memories of spefic plays they've witnessed. I'd rather have advance scouts or players vote on the GG, but it's not up to us. If you really want it changed, by all means call your congressman. The award is just an award, a trinket, and most are deserving of its intended pu

Interesting that no has mentioned the date revisited
The High Heat replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
This is true for some. My family has only dealt with this personally for only a year. We're doing okay under the circumstances. There's pride with the pain. I think the biggest problem with moving on from 9/11/01 is the fact that it is not a settled issue. We are still at war and the threat of another attack is still a serious issue until those responsible are held accountable. We as a country moved on after WWII when it ended. I don't feel we should move on completely until we have a resolution or a whole new philosphy of dealing with terroristic threats other than occupying other countries -

I arrived too late last night for Crow's thread. I think closing it was more symbolic of the lack of conversation on the subject of 9/11 and maybe even to the extent that American behaviors and attitudes haven't really changed all that much after our country was attacked. Unless you were impacted in some way with the tragedy directly or subsequently, many Americans are sympathetic and respectful for the victims still carry on as if this thing happened generations ago. We still spend money, party and carry on as if we shouldn't be more cautious of the consequences of war. Pearl Harbor had every -
A manager can only vote on his own league. Palmiero was a fine defender, who had been shorted throughout the years. They gave him a freebie. Rolen has had left shoulder injuries, which hasn't hurt as much as a right shoulder would. He's more like Ripken was in that he positions himself pitch to pitch, reducing the importance of range. I have seen him play this year. Though aging and battered, he's still better than most. AL will most likely give 3B GG to Inge. He's had some hype this year for defense. The NL will probably award it to Zimmerman and most likely it will be for all around

Breaking Babe Ruth's single season record.

Sportswriters do not vote for Gold Glove. The league managers do. I sincerely doubt fellas like Charlie Manuel and Lou Piniella are studying stats that only fantasy-leaguers value. They vote on what they see and reputation, of which Scott Rolen has a damn great one. Kouzmanoff may have only three errors, but it's possible that he's statuesque at the hot corner, grabbing only what's in arm's reach. I don't know. I haven't seen a Padres game since the day Tony Gwynn retired.

Not exactly guilty pleasures...
The High Heat replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Last year I heard Billy Ripken do a dead-on impression of this song while he was co-hosting the Ripken Baseball show on XM with his legendary brother, Cal. Damn funny, especially with Captain Dignity sitting there speechless. I once told a friend of mine that although I'm not a Madonna fan at all, I thought her "Ray of Light" album wasn't bad. His reaction was pretty much: -
The Padres are campaigning for 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff to win a Gold Glove. Question: Is Scott Rolen eligible for a Gold Glove in either league/both/none?

What was the worst? Comatose?

I'm sure she really gives a fuck.

At Wilco's second show in Chapel Hill in '06 I saw a woman with a baby, as in infant. The Wiggles are what's over-priced. You know, with some Halloween costumes and too much drinky-drinky, Mommy & Daddy can put on just a good of show as the Wiggles right there in the little tyke's bedroom. It's a money-saver and psychotic fun all at the same time!

The head-to-head is why the Rangers have a better chance to make the playoffs as a division winner. There's too much to chance when leaving it up to other teams to knock out the Red Sox. The Rangers won 10-0 today. Scott Feldman is now 16-4, with 12 road wins. A pitcher who can win on the road sure would be useful in the playoffs.

I have found it impossible to even burn a cd of Beatles favorites, let alone narrow it down to one. "In My Life" has special meaning for me, though, as I've lost a few people close to me in the last few years. It's always in my Beatles mix. When I go, I want it played at my funeral.

Therefore, we're waiting to see how the NL West shakes out and if the Rangers step up to the Angels. Other than that we're all set, barring, of course, a New York Mets style nosedive by one of the current division leaders.

Checking out this thread and a tumbleweed went by. Is the season over already?

Did you hear that song anywhere?

She dumped him.

It's simple. Baseball is a game of series. Win more series than not during the season, the reward is an opportunity to compete for the championship. The team that wins all three series during the post season are champions. Interleague hasn't changed this. The only thing that's changed is the number of playoff rounds a team must win to win a championship. It's always been like this and it will always be this way. Seasonal records and sabermetrics will never amount to a hill of shit when it comes down to "best team" over World Series Champions. "Best team" don't bring home the trophy, the

Labor Day Music: songs about work and workers

"Working at the Car Wash Blues" by Jim Croce -
I was sitting at a traffic light today and heard "A Day in the Life" playing in the car beside mine. The male driver, alone, was about 19 years old. Their sound will always resonate and live forever.
