  1. his quick little bass solo towards the end is the epitome of badass.
  2. paul's boutique is an absolute classic. it's my go to source when i need to argue about sampling as an artform. brilliant stuff. remains a top 5/10 record of all time for me. so many good memories, and so many bands/shows/pop culture quotes that i wouldnt know if not for that album.
  3. jesus always my favorite beastie boy, and i was hoping he'd come back and they'd tour again.
  4. janet's the drummer. otherwise, yeah. shes incredible.
  5. yeah that corin tucker band album had some really good songs. it was more of a mellow affair though. cant beat her and carrie riffing together though
  6. sleater-kinney is best band of the 90's/00's material. you should check them out immediately
  7. says more about your knowledge of guitar music than anything else, really. lots of great players on there.
  8. purists be damned, i kinda like the idea of the term "guitarist" being expanded to cover sampling/manipulation of other guitarists' work.
  9. flawed list, but better than another version of rolling stone's age old top 100. good to see some lesser known names up there. wouldn't call lee/thurston a "controversial" pick at all.
  10. i think wolf trap "pit" is usually reserved for members. front orchestra is as good as i ever remember being offered there frontgate's shipping is rather hefty and im getting seats way on the side so i'll just wait for saturday
  11. i would have easily bought volume 3 on its own. but i havent bought the box set and it would take a pretty cheap used copy to make me do so.
  12. i think the review was for the box set as a whole though. and for that the score is fair. volume 3 is certainly not 8.1 material, but the entire mermaid avenue collection definitely is.
  13. i dont think volume 3 is much to write about, personally. it seems obviously a bottom of the barrel thing, as well as something billy bragg wanted to put out more than wilco. jeff has some nice vocals, and it's not a bad collection of songs but it's far and away the worst batch of the three.
  14. agreed. you can tell that dulli views albums like movies by the spot on sequencing and "shot on location" references in the liner notes. gentlemen, black love and 1965 are their best, but congregation and up in it have plenty of fine tracks too. all in all these guys were among the best rock and roll bands of their time. sad to see them still underrated. being a rock and roll/soul band in grunge's heyday couldn't have helped. i like to think of the whigs as the best of the stones mixed with the best of prince. great band. im crossing my fingers for more us shows.
  15. Well it's run by the people in charge of Gram's estate/foundation, so I would imagine that's a trustworthy source on his bandmates. The original post I saw over the weekend was a tweet from Booker T saying he talked to Chris and doctors said he didn't have much time left.
  16. The Gram Parsons facebook confirmed it this morning. Very sad news.
  17. yeah that pretty much sounds exactly like neil described this project. and its awesome.

  19. two nights at wolf trap is pretty amazing, but i kinda wish it was a different opener each night, like the red rocks shows. but thats a petty complaint, because wolf trap is one of my favorite venues and i am a bit of a sonic youth fan. should be a good time.
  20. yeah this is a huge bummer. no one looked happier playing the drums
  21. yeah patterson should get a commission on every album sold by these guys. take away those shows opening for the truckers and this is still an unknown band
  22. i would never have thought to use "grunge" to refer to them they're a very good band (slightly better live) but not yet a great one for me. it's really nice to see them breakout like they have, and i think they have more than enough potential to deliver a truly great album come lp2/3. boys and girls is a top notch debut, and hold on remains a hell of a jam.
  23. street legal's underrated too, but i dont consider it as top tier or classic material new morning, on the other hand, there's a criminally underrated dylan classic.
  24. desire's my second favorite dylan album. (blonde on blonde is first, for what its worth.) it's one of the only dylan albums that doesnt really sound like any other dylan record. and it's got songs like isis, sara, durango (i love that one's opening line. so vivid) and black diamond bay. then the rest isnt shabby either. definitely underrated.
  25. well i mean you cant bring alcohol or food into most real venues. why would a brewery be different?
