Music act of the London 2012 opening ceremony?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Kim Bodnia's topic in Someone Else's Song
I'm not even a Coldplay fan by any means, but I've always thought the amount of hate they get is baffling. They're like the definition of inoffensive. Not great, but not awful. If the organizers are gonna go for a big name band with a new product to promote, they can do a lot worse than Coldplay. -
I argued this a while ago on a different forum, but i'd say absolutely, and I see him taking on an even greater role on the next record. Wilco songs, at least since Jay, don't often have co-writing credits, but Pat got one for Deeper Down. That plus the co-production credit on the Whole Love tells me he's becoming Tweedy's sideman in more ways than one. No complaints here.

1. It's Coldplay, not ColdPlay. 2. There's nothing wrong with Coldplay 3. Why did you post the same thing 17 minutes apart? -

SINGLE-BAND, all-covers albums?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Technically not all covers, but John Legend and The Roots' Wake Up! is a great collection of covers and one unfortunate original. -

The Black Keys-El Camino
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to junkiesmile's topic in Someone Else's Song
Too Afraid To Love You is so damn good. El Camino is excellent, but not that excellent. -
If the Twilight Singers are any indication, Dulli's still got everything that made the Whigs so great.

Yeah, it's great. A more concise version of Brothers, which was already terrific. Gold On The Ceiling is the best, but the whole thing is great to play loud. Also I'm very happy these guys are blowing up. Weird as it is to think they're an arena band now, they've more than earned it. The fact that they put out the followup to Brothers so quickly instead of doing another victory lap of tour dates is refreshing. There aren't enough huge bands these days doing new albums so quickly. And it's just nice to know that a talented rock band can still work their way to the top with consistently grea -

Pretty good class. I'm excited for the GNR drama, Rod reuniting with the Faces, and what I assume will be Adam Yauch's first public appearance since the cancer news. -

Shakespeare In The Alley replied to nodep5's topic in Someone Else's Song
On stage a minute or two before 8:40, off a minute or two before 11. Opener was about 7:40-8:10. She was great too, but I was already a fan. -

No but I saw him in Baltimore last night and it was beyond incredible. Gorgeous sounding venue, great setlist, hilarious banter, etc. Really just a tremendous show. -

Best American Band ever
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
As has been said about a dozen times, "American" did not mean "from the US." -
They'll probably get an alternative album/song nomination, maybe a win.
