Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
people take kiss way too seriously, both the fans and the haters they were just a band who wrote some really good dumb pop rock songs and struck marketing gold along the way. take away the makeup and all that bullshit and there were still some really good dumb pop rock songs not the best band in the world, not the worst im not a huge fan (though i play the first few albums quite a bit) but i have no problem with them in the rock and roll hall of fame -
2013 Baseball season!!!

so not only did they not shut the door, they came back and outbid themselves to finish the deal. 9/225 was already more than cano was getting from anyone else so they more than likely had him at that point. i guess an extra year on top of an already ridiculous contract isnt that big a deal, but yikes -
Will there be a solid sound in 2014?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to michaelp's topic in Just A Fan
i think the 2014 plan is new album/tour, maybe some loose fur, no solid sound -
this tour kicked all sorts of ass in dc last week. enjoy.

songs of leonard cohen songs of love and hate new skin for the old ceremony those are his masterpieces. after that it gets a bit spotty, to be honest. plenty of great songs but youll have to wade through a whole lot of questionable production choices to appreciate them. songs from a room is good but easily the weakest of his acoustic period. i'm personally a fan of his phil spector album, but many people hate it, and i can understand why. i have a hard time getting into his more recent stuff, which is well written but too heavy on really boring arrangements. the 80s albums had some of his be

2013 Baseball season!!!

true, the entire concept of the taxpayer funded stadium just rubs me the wrong way for the braves it's a great deal cuz instead of paying $200 million to fix turner field they pay $200 million and get a new stadium, i just dont like putting the taxpayers on the hook for over $400 million when turner field is still a perfectly usable stadium. this isnt oakland playing in a literal dump of a stadium for years. -
2013 Baseball season!!!
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
i dont like this at all it sets a very dangerous precedence when a stadium thats not even 20 years old and still in very good shape needs to be ditched for a new, largely taxpayer funded stadium arguing whether taxpayers should ever have to fund a sports stadium is a different matter but the fact that a multi million dollar stadium (albeit one not originally built for baseball) doesnt even have to last two decades anymore is appalling -

it was really close, but the fact that the more populated/liberal counties were all 50% in while the rural/conservative counties were 100% in gave me hope while it looked for a while like cooch could conceivably pull it of. i havent watched much tv lately (save for baseball) so i missed most of the campaign ads, but i fully agree that its disturbing how much money both sides spend on them. anyway im just glad that psycho's been cast aside for now. good fucking riddance -

from what i gather (i fell asleep after the 8th because i am an idiot) it was the right call, albeit one of of those confusing baseball rules no one knows about till it screws them over personally i think its a lame way to decide a world series game, but those are the breaks. play on. -

man, i was pulling for the tigers (and totally though boston was toast going into detroit down 2-0) but that grand slam was something else hell of a picture too -
i havent been closely following this stuff lately but isnt next year supposed to be all about a new wilco album and a full tour for that? doesnt surprise me that there wouldnt be time for a solid sound amidst all that

the ripken/nats rumors are too prevalent now to totally dismiss, but i still think its a long shot. picking a manager is such a crapshoot i kinda hope rizzo goes goes for cal anyway, but i have no idea how likely that is. rizzo hasnt tipped his hand whatsoever in this manager search -

id like to see a pirates/dodgers nlcs, but i dont know how much faith i have in the bucs getting past the cardinals. then again, pirates/braves could be a nice sense of closure for the pittsburgh faithful my hope is for a pirates/a's series, but dodgers/red sox seems most likely. either way, lots of interesting angles to these playoffs. should be fun. -
i dont really care much about a solid sound documentary, tbh. i guess it depends how heavy it is on live performances vs behind the scenes stuff though. im glad the festivals been a success but ive got little to no interest in watching a bunch of interviews about how theyve done it. live clips though, those id love. hopefully its like sunken treasure or ashes of american flags where the "documentary" bits are small segments after every 4/5 songs

i want this a lot more than a new wilco album or tour a lot more

Ryan Adams "Hates Country Music"
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to ripthisjoint908's topic in Someone Else's Song
you sure about that? ryan name drops a whole bunch of his favorite artists and theyre very rarely country guys, modern or otherwise. its really not that weird to me that the music he makes might not be the music he likes -

this isnt exactly news: "so i started this damn country band cuz punk rock was too hard to sing" that was 18 years ago also nme is renowned for taking an innocent quote and spinning it into a scandalous headline. -
