New Drive-By Truckers
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Golden Smoghead's topic in Someone Else's Song
from what i gather from various intrviews over the year, the turmoil that lead to firing jason more or less saved the band from breaking up. look at where he is now, both personally and professionally and its hard to argue that decision was a shame from any perspective -
Sunny Day Real Estate

http://pitchfork.com/news/54177-sunny-day-real-estate-to-release-lipton-witch-first-new-song-since-2000-on-circa-survive-split/ been on a major how it feels to be something on/return of the frog queen kick lately so this is welcome news hope its a part of something bigger -
^ which the nfl has strongly hinted it could do, as it did when arizona voted against recognizing mlk day years ago these laws are irredeemably awful but i kinda hope they pass somewhere, just because the inevitable outrage when a christian is denied service for being a christian (and has zero legal recourse cuz of their own asshole leaders) will be too good

Philip Seymour Hoffman -- DEAD
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to PopTodd's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
he was sober for over 20 years, relapsed about a year ago and immediately checked himself into rehab. seems like he knew exactly what to do, did it, and still couldnt beat addiction. makes it even scarier imo -
New Drive-By Truckers
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Golden Smoghead's topic in Someone Else's Song
this goes for all their records, to be honest. theyre easily one of my favorite bands going, but they havent made an album that couldnt be trimmed by about ten minutes yet of course the flip side of that is theres no real fan consensus on which songs should be cut. -
New Drive-By Truckers
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Golden Smoghead's topic in Someone Else's Song
well its not at all representative of the current lineup (hood, cooley and the drummer remain, new bassist and keyboardist/guitarist these days), but their sound hasnt changed too much, and they still play a lot of the SRO songs at nearly every show as for other releases, decoration day and the dirty south go along with SRO as the holy trinity for me, with brighter than creations dark close behind -

hes a very popular musician who hasnt put out an album in half a decade. of course people are excited new single sounds great. definite sea change vibe, which is probably my favorite beck album. id also put modern guilt near the top of his discography, so im definitely stoked for the new album -
its not. more often than not its just an excuse to get a pretty face or famous name on camera for a few seconds i find it hilarious how sports journalism (or w/e you want to call it) keeps trying to bring fans closer and closer to the game with onfield mics or sideline reporters and the like, then you get a rare unguarded moment like this and everyone flips out. newsflash: highly competitive elite athletes in the midst of the biggest adrenaline rush of their season so far say crazy things

you guys know this wasnt an isolated incident between sherman and crabtree right? theyve been exchanging words for the past few seasons now (including crabtree trying to start a fight at an offseason charity event), so when the moment came to literally put up or shut up between them and sherman made the big play to end the game, hes got every right to mouth off in my book. id have no problem with crabtree doing the same if roles were reversed every sport needs characters like this. its a game, its not supposed to be serious business all the time

why? dude was put in front of a mic seconds after the biggest moment of his professional career (a moment in which he backed up his previous words, no less). itd be weird if he wasnt hyped up about it ill never understand why people seem to want athletes to be soulless robots all the time. that interview was bizarre but so much better than the canned "it was a team effort/both teams played great/thank you god" bullshit most athletes peddle in these moments

2014 BASEBALL SEASON!!!
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
i know, it hurts to say it. im by no means an a-rod fan (he pretty much made his own bed several times over the years, both with the lies and the generally bizarre behavior on and off the field, so he cant be shocked that its come to this) but the way mlb went after him with a penalty immediately way beyond those agreed to by the players union sets a dangerous precedent in my opinion. not to mention the fact that their entire case was built on a witness they paid off throughout the process, and not on any failed tests. its classic bud selig. well intentioned but terribly executed. im not as -
2014 BASEBALL SEASON!!!
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
nobody came out looking good in the a-rod mess if anything, alex might be the more sympathetic figure here, since selig and co went out of their way to make him the poster child for a widespread problem thats likely never going away. im not defending him by any means (though of course im pissed that the guy had all the talent in the world from the very beginning and his legacy is forever tainted by all the various headlines, both PED related and otherwise, over the years) but major league baseballs campaign made me uncomfortable meanwhile the dodgers just locked kershaw up for 7 years/215 -
Good albums with terrible cover art.
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
