More and more I'm hearing 72 is an excellent year to start with. I'm on it.

I don't believe I heard the word Please.

I used to go take the Rhino music aptitude test when I lived in LA in the Tower Records parking lot. It was a blast. One year Alice Cooper was there, the next year Devo hosted. It was basically a bunch of school desks in the parking lot and a 1 hour test. I think there were 100 questions or something. I don't think I have your head for music trivia (analog) but I did not do half bad. I find the older I get the less I am remembering though. I was huge into rock biographies and things so that helped. They may still do it online every year, not sure. It was a blast and was actually quit

This is probably going to sound goofy but I just heard a fantastic GD song on Pandora. That is the kind of stuff I am looking for. Great harmonies, amazing guitar, and Jerry's voice which always kills me. The song was called "Ramble on Rose" and I believe it was on the long strange trip greatest hits album. Any idea what year/era that was recorded. Sounded amazing.

Thanks for the good wishes! The guy in the picture on our flyer is actually our singers wifes brother.

Missed 5 although I got lucky on a few.

Thanks so much. Somehow I knew you would have some info for me! I figured that Sweet pickle salad must have been around that time based on the sound. I had no idea it had members of Jellyfish on it. Somebody just burned it for me with no info or anything and I could not find out much about it. Our band does the Foamfoot version of "Presence of the Lord" note for note. It is flat out amazing (maybe not the way we do it, I mean them). I guess I will have to get the rest of that CD as well! I have some friends that are Black Crowes freaks and have all that stuff. Can't believe I never a

Amorica is a very, very close second for me but I think it goes back to the time and place discussion. Southern Harmony came around at just the right time for me and I wore it out. I have a bootleg they did under the name "Sweet Pickle Salad" that is really good. I know it has Marc Ford and Chris but don't know much more about it other than I really like it.

Wow, can't picture The Scorps in 1965. I wonder if they did "Cups and Cakes" (I think that was the name of that Spinal tap song?)
-
That is by far my favorite album by them.

I wasn't complaining or anything, I like Bruce but have never delved deep into his catalogue. I can't possibly pretend to know about all the bands people talk about but I usually do pretty good on the common knowledge stuff, even for groups I don't like. I did know about the U2 song at least but that could be because I am more of a Ramones fan. Just think of all those Eurika moments I can look forward to when I start diving into his back catalogue. My exposure to bruce has really been from others turning me onto specific songs or our band playing "thunder Road" or "Adam raised a Cain". T

And then he played that damn Manfred Mann song! Are you calling me a Newbie because I didn't know about the Ramones connection to that song? Ok, I admit it, I am a newbie but I did not realize that was common knowledge.

To go along with my "now playing" of Loveless.

Bad Religion, Social Distortion? (at least if I understand what you are asking).
-
And Jimi Hendrix was their opening act for a tour! It sounds like a Book I would like.

Hungry Heart was written for the Ramones? As in for them to record? Or influenced by them? I never heard that.

Your explanation makes sense. It sounded like you were rejecting it because it was accessible which is clearly not the case. It's very common for zealot music fans (I mean that in a good way) to like the non obvious albums. Like Pearl Jam fans liking No Code the best or how many Zep fans like "Presence" the best. It's because they have put the time in and found the nuance. That's why I like to hear people's opinions on these things, lets me know what I should listen to that I may not have considered.

Jeff Tweedy February 7, 2009 - Letters To Santa Living Room Show
Moss replied to Edie's topic in After The Show
Ha! I love the guitar geek stuff and the picture of the guitar with the broken string. That's the kind of stuff I would have been noticing so thanks for the report! -
I don't get it, did they find residue or something? How can they prove they were smoking pot from a picture? I remember the drill, we used to have to ask for a "Tobacco pipe" from the head shop because they would not sell you a "Bong". Can't they say they were smoking something legal?
-
That's my understanding, at least live. Not sure about the record. I read the interview with Elvis Costello and I guess the main songwriter (Nick or whatever) is a big Elvis Costello fan. That's a good sign.
-
Sounds interesting. I heard somewhere that Stephen Stills auditioned for the Monkees. Does the book have that kind of detail?
-
I give them props for actually writing their own songs and playing instruments. The little girls understand.
-
Yeah, and then there was the horseshit about not charging outrageous "Convenience fees" like ticketmaster. That went out the window pretty quick. Isn't this a monopoly or something?

I don't know why the word "Accessible" has to be the kiss of death for some fans (not just for Dylan). It's accesible because it's good to most people. It does not have to be "Challenging" to be good. I'm not busting your chops, I can see how for true fans, going deeper in the mix rewards repeated listening. The accessible stuff gets overplayed and starts to get tiresome so I see that side. But damn, Blood on the Tracks is just great.
