  1. On Facebook, Don't Get Too Pokey Paul Suarez, PC World (10-10) 23:46 PDT -- The Facebook poke is possibly one of the most pointless, annoying features of any social network to date. And apparently, it can land you in jail for nearly 12 months with a possible fine of $2,500. Shannon Jackson, 36, of Tennessee learned that the hard way when she was arrested on September 25. Jackson allegedly broke an order of protection against another woman when she decided to poke her on Facebook. The order of protection stated that she wasn't to make any form of contact -- pokes included. The Tenness
  2. My avatar is kind of spooky already, but I made a change anyway.
  3. Missoula, Portland, Seattle... Not nearly as exciting as the Canadian angle!
  4. Yeah, sometimes a book is perfect for a certain time in your life, but doesn't make the same kind of sense a few years later. But I read Housekeeping a couple of times with several years in between, and still love it just as much.
  5. That one jumped out at me, too. They're going to be overrun with Marines in a few years, if that means anything...
  6. I know that guy! I took pictures at his wedding. When the book came out, he did a great book-tour presentation with audio recordings, film clips, etc. I enjoyed the presentation, but I still haven't read the book. Currently on hold at the library:
  7. Tommy Boy is one of the most divisive topics in our house. Religion and politics, fine, but don't start a discussion on the artistic merits of Tommy Boy at Thanksgiving dinner!
  8. A two-Judy trip! We probably won't make it up there for the Wilco show but are very much looking forward to seeing both of you.
  9. Hmmm... And we were planning on arriving on the 15th...
  10. Huh. Her biography reads as much more distinguished than I would have imagined: http://www.thedrawingroomonline.com/bio.html
  11. I'm going to need some more details on this.
  12. Yes. I just had to go look up that cast. Lots of good people in there, actually: Nora Dunn, Dennis Miller, Jon Lovitz, and A. Whitney Brown and Al Franken appeared regularly on Weekend Update. So what was the point of bringing in that other crowd? Ouch.
  13. As opposed to the nightmare: Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Michael Hall, and Joan Cusack. What the hell were any of those people thinking???
  14. For you, or for her? If it's for her, I suggest laminating her now. That should slow her down! (My oldest niece turns 14 next week, she's been taller than me for a couple of years, and the 12 year old should catch up to me any day. Now that's depressing!)
  15. I've already got one, it's great!
  16. Loretta and Dan, both fantastically hot! Dan's working it just a bit more, though.
  17. I read a pretty good history of the modern Olympic games last year. In 1904, the Olympics were supposed to be in Chicago, but St. Louis was still looking for a way to compete with Chicago's Columbian Expo from ten years before. They were organizing their own expo that year, and threatened to hold their own sporting events to compete with the Olympics. The Olympics were still relatively new, didn't feel they could stand up to the competition, and pretty much just gave up and moved them to St. Louis. I don't know if Chicago had tried again in between then and now, but not a good track recor
  18. Before or after the London Olympics?
  19. Always Sunny replayed the episode with the musical based on the Nightman the other night. It was good, but nothing will ever compare to that original Nightman episode. Insanely hilarious.
  20. Considering that Barcelona was (fairly) recent, I'd have to think Rio is more likely. Sorry, Chicago! I'd still like to see them in SF, but that'll never happen...
  21. In case anyone's wondering, this: is why this thread is now closed. Unacceptable.
  22. Some discussion of this over in Someone Else's Song a while back: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/24695-mermaid-ave-iii-sorta/
