  1. tangentially speaking, i got to see Tedeschi Trucks Band last week and they brought out Warren Haynes for a few songs https://medium.com/culture-beat/live-review-tedeschi-trucks-band-bring-a-bunch-of-friends-to-the-garden-parties-at-td-garden-9531cf1c3a29
  2. The Breeders did a cool thing at the Boston show... 1st 30 posters were signed by the band and were the same price as the unsigned copies.
  3. Syl Johnson once told me that The Rolling Stones were from Chicago.
  4. i would have loved to see any of those bands in that era... closest was finally seeing DKs my first year in college ('85), and REM played our college spring concert... Fables of the Preconstruction tour. My only real hardcore claim to fame was seeing Deep Wound, which featured J and Lou who would later form Dinosaur Jr. I also saw Murph's first band, All White Jury a couple times. their singer Simon had a giant pink mohawk.
  5. it is pretty wild that the DK's record first came out in the UK, not over here. that record had an out-sized impact on me in high school. pissed that i somehow lost my copy of _Plastic Surgery Disasters_.
  6. punk albums i consider great. maybe some of these are considered hardcore? The Damned - Damned Damned Damned The Sex Pistols - Bollocks (yeah that entire band/scene comes with a lot of baggage but the record still holds up) Ramones - S/T The Ruts - The Crack The Adverts - Crossing The Red Sea Black Flag - My War Dead Kennedy - Fresh Fruit The Clash - S/T (American version, sorry! "Complete Control" is a face ripper!) The Adolescents - S/T Circle Jerks - Group Sex The Avengers - S/T Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material
  7. As noted I love "Gilbert" and have had a BBC session version for a while, no idea how who I got it. But, it wasn't on YouTube so I decided to fix that.
  8. this is one of my favorites from them... it's a song from their ABBC collaboration but this version is just Calexico, recorded for a Peel Session. so good. I miss this band.
  9. yeah i feel you on that... i also agree that FoW is their last truly great record and then it got spotty afterwards. I still will never forgot the first time i saw them, must have been around '99 or so as they played "Glowing Heart of the World" which was on that Road Map cd; i think i bought a copy at that show. incredible song and i think that's the only time i have seen them play it.
  10. what other songs did he play w/ LL? I was on the hunt for a lobster roll and caught the final "La Bamba/Like A Rolling Stone" song he was on w/ them. unfortunately he didn't come out in the first three and shooting from the crowd at NFF sucks ass. I did see him in the anchor tent before the show w/ Yuka when i was heading over for some oysters and i asked him who he was going to be playing with but he wanted to keep it a surprise. he did compliment me on my guided by voices shirt.
  11. kinda disappointed that Son Volt skipped Boston on this run of Trace. tonight i am seeing Glenn Jones and Eric Arn play in some wine shop. it's been quite some time since i've seen Glenn play, i'd say at least 6 years.
  12. i am an ocean away from seeing The Cure, but Beyonce is playing the second of two shows in the arena a few hundred yards from my hotel over here in Amsterdam so I took a few random shots of fans.
  13. that looked like a Pollard cover.
  14. what are the tracks? enter it into Discogs please!
  15. there's a discrepancy in song title between the sleeve and the label on the record. i haven't found any mention of an actual record, but here is the audiobook: https://www.audible.com/pd/Please-Tell-My-Brothers-Audiobook/B0BV8DPKZR?qid=1680775771&sr=1-2&ref=a_search_c3_lProduct_1_2&pf_rd_p=83218cca-c308-412f-bfcf-90198b687a2f&pf_rd_r=G9E9EY07D0R4VJWEBDE1&pageLoadId=tXjs0KgYQbiOQFVk&creativeId=0d6f6720-f41c-457e-a42b-8c8dceb62f2c
  16. a friend of mine went and sent me a short clip of Wilco joining YLT for a cover of "One Track Mind," and looks like they played on a few: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/yo-la-tengo/2023/metro-chicago-il-1bbbd51c.html
  17. i guess the Dead have deeper pockets and could afford to pull the plug. nah, they just have better lawyers.
  18. they canceled because Mayer got covid before the event.
  19. the band signed a contract to perform at a four day event. what the hell was his lawyer gonna do? sorry you're over Wilco and it was obv a tough decision for some folks given the uncertainty, but everyone i saw at the last SBS event had a good time.
  20. and... Sky Blue Sky 2023 is a go! (weird that no one posted about it already... slackers! or just indifferent?)
  21. i am rather shocked that Yo La Tengo is not playing Boston this tour.
