  1. so according to that list, they stopped making essential psych rock after the '60s?
  2. gonna get my metal fix tonight...Mastodon + Dethklok + High On Fire + Converge = headbanging.
  3. he's got to know his limitations.
  4. it was tacked on as a bonus cd for the Australian and UK versions of Under the Bushes, Under the Stars http://www.gbvdb.com/albums.asp?album_title=under+the+bushes
  5. the problem i see w/ digital formats is that it seems transient, not lasting...you can pick up an LP made six decades ago and still play it. the cd will not be around in ~10 or so years. mp3s are not a good alternative. sure, you can use FLAC but to me it's not the same thing. maybe it's because i don't feel any sense of ownership when i have a file on my PC.
  6. i totally agree w/ this. despite listening to music for a large percentage of the day, i can't give a lot of it the proper listening time it deserves. i should cut back, but that's not in my wired behavioral patterns.
  7. i can't claim to being super familiar w/ either record, but their brand of guitar-prominent rock hasn't changed too much. i'd say it's a safe bet to get the new one. and i would love to see Electric Wizard play the US...'Dopethrone' is such a towering song.
  8. if we are counting the Sloan song, i'll also add Mogwai's "D to E" but since it's an instrumental I can't verify its meaning.
  9. pavement's lyrics are always very obtuse, but i've heard that the 'he can't even finish the songs' bit of 'Major Leagues' was Malkmus' pointed jibe @ Spiral Stairs. http://www.lyrics007.com/Pavement%20Lyrics/Major%20Leagues%20Lyrics.html
  10. i would imagine that price differences in turntables would be far easier to hear than price differences in cd players.
  11. i just listened to _The Blue Record_ today for the 1st time. yeah, good guitar-fueled rock...if you like Lizzy or Priest, dig in.
  12. since we are expanding to include Australia, is anyone familiar w/ The Sunnyboys? great power pop/rock band, sorta similar to Radio Birdman.
  13. i could do w/ an education program solely dedicated to New Zealand artists... The Bats Verlaines The Chills The Clean Goblin Mix Bird Nest Roys Able Tasmans Straitjacket Fits Split Enz Peter Jefferies Graeme Jefferies Alastair Galbraith Terminals Roy Montgomery Gordons Bailter Space King Loser Sneaky Feelings so many amazingly good bands that came out of that tiny island nation in the years '81 to '91
  14. their biggest/most wellknown songs are Academy Fight Song and That's When I Reach For My Revolver some other songs worth checking out 2wice spider's web trem 2 peking spring all world cowboy romance that's how i escaped my certain fate mica
  15. they are too uneven for me, though _Cats and Dogs_ is a great record.
  16. if you don't have either _Supersonic Storybook_ or _Stull_, definitely get those too. i just noticed that they all begin w/ 'S'. wonder if that was intentional. of course, 'enter the dragon' and 'americruiser' don't follow that trend. i see a ton of Pearl Jam mentions, and I've actually never listened to a full record of theirs.
  17. so far I've gotten all on LP but AM and Being There, and i will get them at some point. the records sound really really good. well done.
  18. another great artist of the '90s (but sadly overlooked for the most part...his biggest hit was when Mary Lou Lord covered 'Lights are Changing') The Bevis Frond
  19. i tend to disagree http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_six
  20. never expected to see not only a Dogbowl mention but two Shrimp Boat records! i have _Duende_ but haven't listened to it in years. off the top of my head: jon spencer blues explosion - orange thinking fellers union local 282 - mother of all saints come - don't ask, don't tell tar - over and out the jesus lizard - goat guided by voices - alien lanes sebadoh - bakesale mogwai - young team stereolab - dots and loops yo la tengo - electr-o-pura barbara manning - 12:12 hood - Rustic Houses, Forlorn Valleys sun city girls - 330,003 Crossdressers from Beyond the Rig Veda giant sand - chore of
