  1. the SY online store was selling some copies...i got the Reatard split (the Beck was sold out).
  2. i tend to agree w/ that sentiment, but totally random polls/threads i'd seen from Oink would imply that a large percentage of younger music fans are unrepentant in their defense of not buying anything, w/ a casual 'i'll buy a t-shirt at a show' justification...
  3. the store i went to (peabody location of newbury comics) had a bunch of the wilco DVD. i got one rather than chance it being gone on a later visit.
  4. it's a complete mystery to me why Pollard ignored that song....for a band who constantly toured, and played ~65 songs a night, it's a crime to have not played that one.
  5. gbv - over the neptune/mesh gear fox
  6. because the original poster wanted a recommendation from the three posted. not some naybobber of negativity pissing all over them. got the fucking difference?
  7. Palace/BPB without a doubt, and this record (his 2nd, unofficially known as Days in the Wake)
  8. trust me, it is. Dino Jr played before MBV @ ATP last year, and MBV was by far the loudest band i've ever been close to. louder than Boris, than Dino Jr, than Mogwai...probably Swans would be the only louder band ever to play.
  9. is it me or do most US-based festivals suck? last year's ATP/NY was awesome, and pitchfork typically has a decent lineup. but it seems like it's a lot of the same bands playing, and it's not like they don't already tour a lot anyway...then you look @ european fests and there are some excellent ones: http://www.tannedtin.com/ http://www.primaverasound.com/ http://www.atpfestival.com/Events/TheFansStrikeBack.php http://www.atpfestival.com/Events/ATPBreeders.php http://www.roadburn.com/frames.html
  10. wasn't that a Spin cover on Jim Morrison about 25 years ago?
  11. or the infamous Dwarves cover... unfortunately this is teh largest image i could find, but it's a spectacular cover Ghost - Second Time Around: another one of my favorites:
  12. yeah, i wasn't being serious about that. this is underscored by the Giant Sand remastered back catalogue program i just found out about...i have pretty much all of this stuff on cd, but there are a few titles i could use on LP. due to the cost of making physical copies though, it looks like most if not all titles will be available as mp3 (and possibly FLAC), unless they can find a good just-in-time manufacturing CD option...otherwise, the cost of pressing ~1000 titles of each is prohibitive.
  13. >Of course not......neither did Thrill Jockey, but they did continue to put out LPs when most companies stopped. most indie labels have never stopped putting out vinyl...siltbreeze, matador, merge... >Have you tried to buy a new 78 lately?? i bought one about ~15 years ago >I bought the new Robyn Hitchcock for 18 bucks and got a free download. In this case not a rip-off. The market will bear what the market will bear won't it. If >an album sucks, yea, 20 bucks is too much, download or not. CDs are a rip-off at 15 too. Most of the cost of either doesn't go to the artis
  14. The Drones are an excellent rock band. i like 'em quite a bit.
  15. how did Touch and Go spearhead a format that was developed many decades before Corey Rusk was born? so LPs won't last in the long run? you can play a pre-wars 78 just fine today. how many other formats can you do that? cds are gonna be gone in ~10 years or so. Shellac (I think) started this w/ _1000 Hurts_) so if 18 or 20 is a rip-off, what in your estimation is a fair price for a physical artifact of a recording? digital still needs to handle dynamic range better, but i think it's pretty clear that analog is pretty much dead from a photography perspective, unles
  16. i saw him last night. i'll have my review and photos up hopefully tonight.
  17. i liked when byron coley did the Underground column for Spin...some excellent stuff there. btw, i think that sometimes you get free mag subs when you buy tickets via ticketmaster...i think i got half a year of RS that way once...i'd never willingly spend $ on that mag.
  18. you could just as easily substitute ATHLETE or MOVIE/TV STAR...i doubt our values will change, since people still want to be entertained.
  19. your quote was taken a little of out context i thought (trying too hard to paint the owner as an arrogant asshole); the point i took away was that he played stuff he liked, and people would take note of it, and if they liked it, order it (see the comment about Chet Baker). hell, if i owned a record store, i would play music i liked. wouldn't you? btw, i was down in Atlanta for the Scion Rock Fest and caught the in-store performances the day before @ Criminal. i thought that was a hell of a record store...i didn't get to browse too much, but really liked what i saw, and the fact that t
