A pretty good case could be made that The Who, Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd are often very bad lyrically, and The Rolling Stones can be a little hit and miss at times too - this is if you just take the songs on a lyrical level (obviously they come as a whole, which is why I still like the songs most of the time). Personally I think The Who's lyrics are appalling, but I still like most of their songs because it's just big dumb rock music you can sing along to; and everyone I know regards Pink Floyd's lyrics as very 'sixth-form' in nature - so most of those bands in terms of pure song writing a

howlin rain by howlin rain was a really great album from last year, and, as was said, oakley hall are pretty special too. -
The first three Richard & Linda Thompson albums were reissued in the UK a couple of years ago on cd, so they are easy to find on amazon even in the USA, or do you mean on vinyl? The remastering on them is really good, too.

Alright, I'm still not totally sure what you are saying you have and know, but if you don't have - Liege & Lief, I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, Pour Down Like Silver, Unhalfbricking, and Shoot Out The Lights, then get them as soon as possible - they are some of the best albums ever made. Also get these ones too, at some point, if you like the other stuff - Henry The Human Fly, Full House, Hokey Pokey, What We Did On Our Holidays, Fairport Convention

are you saying that you have/know all his more famous albums, but want to know which lesser known albums have songs like 1952 Vincent Black Lightning on them? or, are you saying that you want to know what are the best richard thompson albums to own, because you want to know where to start?

I seem to be doing everything right then, but it's just not working. How about if I send you the embedded code via pm, and you kindly do the rest? Would that be possible to do? -
He's the only person on here that I know is youngish (and asbo's tend to be issued to young people), and I thought he probably won't get mad if I used his name in reference to the article. Stop over thinking things! Oh, and he did say something about coming to the UK to steal my car stereo and ride up and down my street in both a hoody & an intimidating manner. He'll say he didn't, but he did.

Ok, that bit I don't really have a problem with (I think). It's the divshare bit - I think I'm going wrong with making a playlist (which code to use, when embedding it here etc...) I think I'm only trying to share the one song, instead of the whole folder - how do you do that? -

Well, that didn't work. Anyone know care to talk me through the divshare thing a bit better - a guide for actual divs please .... -

yeah, of course. read my rules again: once you've sent the link to your partner you also put a link for everyone here to download too. the point in the partner is just to ensure that at least someone listens to your mix, and that someone makes comment on it too. -

Alright - the rules are: 01 You must pick your 10 favourite songs from the year (they don't have to be from your 10 favourite albums, just your 10 favourite songs - so, for instance, you might have thought the last white stripes album was total feltch, but for some weird reason you couldn't get 'conquest' out of your noggin for well over a month - thus making it eligible for your mix . . . Then you must upload the finished mix to a file sharing site and send your partner (who i will partner you with next week) the link, and then you can post it in this thread too for others to hear - afterwh -

That's something I guess you could discuss with partners, once you get one. I'm not too bothered about the whole partner thing, but it does make it feel a bit more like you're making it for someone specific, rather than just uploading it for anyone and everyone. I'll add names to the first post as people sign up. -

It's not a torrent site. It's a site where you can upload files to. I just called it YSI because most people know www.yousendit.com, but most people don't even use that one now - rapidshare is a bit more popular. If you are blocked at work & don't have a home computer then there are a lot of similar file upload sites, which means you're unlikely to be blocked by all of them. You don't need any fancy software or that kind of thing, all you need to do is download or upload the file like you would if you were attaching something onto an email. Does that make any sense? -
what do people think about the idea of having a ysi compilation get-together? but, this time it's about your 10 favourite songs of the year 2007. anyone think it's a good enough idea to go ahead with, and if so should it just be like the past ysi things, where we have a partner so at least 1 person listens to our stuff? thoughts, and/or signatures welcome below . . . current signatories: Me DAangerer09 MattZ Welsh Rich Muller Tongue-Tied Lightning Lizish Kevin G El Picador mjpuczko jhh4321 El Ron Huxtable tongue-tied Ol' Prospector Solace m-thomp insideoutoflove bobbob1313 samorama a.mil

Let the Year End Lists Begin

Coincidentally, Paste didn't make my top 100 publications of the year either . . . swings, roundabouts & monkeybars too. -
I'm a big fan of fade outs mainly because it leaves you thinking - "I wonder what happened after that?" One of my favourites is on Pet Sounds, when I'm Waiting For The Day actually changes on the fade out when they sing - "You didn't think, that I could sit around etc..." The fact that this bit of the song is incredible is one thing, but the fact that they fade it makes your brain think, "damn I wish that went on for another couple of minutes" ie. it leaves the audience wanting more. It also has the effect of saying "right, that's the song - you get the idea . . . now onto the next idea" which
