  1. not available in the uk, due to ______________ (place your excuse within the gap provided)
  2. The Low End Theory - Tribe Called Quest and the one someone thought was The Handsome Family is Sings Greatest Palace Music - Bonnie Prince Billy
  3. The Haunting Tenebrae Suspiria The Crazies
  4. I've got an mp3 version of Bamboo, but it's up in the roof-space. If you try and can't find it, I'll have a dig around sometime soon for you. Pacific Ocean Blue is one of those albums that I can't believe has not been re-released yet (it's out of print on cd) - whoever owns the rights to that one is a bit of a prick, if you ask me. Dennis wasn't much of a drummer, but he wrote some amazing songs - him and Carl really shined after Brian went chicken oriental, and in lots of ways I prefer that period of the band to the pre-Smile stuff.
  5. cheers very much. they are all available on cd (although some go for a lot of money, so it's probably easier to get hold of them on vinyl).
  6. Is that the whole album, and, if it is, what's I Can't Leave Her Behind and I'm Not There (both versions - have they cleaned up the original one) like? NP.
  7. Isn't it a rule that in the Navy you must either have a "full-set" (ie. a full beard) or nothing at all? That's what my grandfather says whenever he sees me when i haven't shaved for a few days and I'm trying to grow a poor attempt at a beard - his comment is always that I wouldn't be allowed in the Navy with that. Or is that just a British Naval thing?
  8. that's the best one so far, and i don't really like the yeahs yeahs yeahs (or karen o). all the other tracks sound like the people really aren't having a lot of fun playing on them.
  9. I've actually just written an article about 10 albums from the 1970s I feel are underrated (not heard by enough people) for Twisted Ear. The link is here You can stream one track from each album too.
  10. Yeah, it's a great album. Shame it's really hard to buy from the UK. I did see it on one site, but it was too expensive. Hopefully it'll get a UK release some time next year (or at least become easier to find at a reasonable price online). NP. robert wyatt - comicopera
  11. Middlesborough (right next door to Cleveland) was voted the worst place in the country to live last week. That whole area all around it is hardly the Red Rose of England. It scored very highly on crime - nothing to do with illegal downloading though, i don't think.
  12. Looks like i'm going to have to go back to buying a couple of albums a year from artists I already know about then. The record industry can rest easy knowing that!
  13. Have you got Dreams Come True? - If not, then it's worth having too. Perhaps not quite as amazing as those first 2 albums, but not far behind. Also, on a related note, she also appears on the album Chariot Of Astral Light by Tommy Peltier - which is also worth hearing - he sounds a bit like a demented Neil Young - you can hear clips here NP. Andre Ethier - On Blue Fog
  14. I've never had it from a bottle, but Hoegaarden is really nice if you can find it. It's a proper wheat beer (I think it's got orange peel and coriander in too), rather than a lager (as a lot of the other drinks in this thread are), but is mass produced enough for it to not be that hard to find (in England anyway). If you do get it then you better tell your friend the Hoegaarden tadition which is to drink the first one of the day in 3 mouthfuls - that's the rule, so it would be rude not to stick to it. As a rule - I'd also say, don't buy anything that is above 6% nor below 4%. If it's below i
  15. I've only listened to those 4 songs through once, but they're a bit dull aren't they? Apart from the Sufjan one, which is interesting except for his voice.
  16. Here's a few newish bands - all of which have had great albums out this year - all with handy myspace links (aren't i kind of heart?): citay (sound like acoustic led zeppelin) lavender diamond (like how pop music should be) panda bear (not the beatles, but the beach boys) gruff rhys (not a new talent, by a long stretch - but a new album, none-the-less)
  17. are you speaking cockney again? i'm lost
  18. there was once a joke on 'nevermind the buzzcocks' (a uk comedy quiz show about music) - not with mark lamarr, but with the new kid, and it went something like this: i like u2 i believe their music has the power to heal broken souls i am in awe of the edge's guitar playing talent i am deeply impressed by bono's struggle against world poverty ..... i am an idiot only it wasn't about u2, it was about robbie williams (and most of the words were different) but you get my point . . .carry on
  19. it was a little bit like you were trying too hard. but, good enough for a septic tank, non-the-less
  20. when you take into account that soundwaves have the potential to make you feel a whole number of bodily experiences (eg. make you feel disorientated, loss of balance, that sort of thing) then i think it does matter a lot that mp3's actually remove frequencies that the human ear cannot distinguish properly from a song just to make the file size smaller. the fact that you can't hear them doesn't mean that they are not having an effect on your body, and therefore the experience is different. it's a bit like (and i think i've said this before), i have a friend who i record music with a lot and
