  1. The greatest example of that is the hidden track The Citizen's Band on The Super Furry Animals Guerrilla album. Because it comes at the start of the album, and you have to rewind the first track on the cd to find it. I actually didn't discover it until a good couple of years later, which made it even more of a treat.
  2. The reason I see why it fades out is because what he starts singing is an old folk song - "on the rock where moses stood." I very much doubt those lyrics were in the song as it was intended. I'd therefore assume that the whole thing fell apart just after that, so hence the fast fade.
  3. It does it on the original cd issue too. I'd imagine it's on the original vinyl as well. Why? Don't you like it?
  4. the organ is very high-pitched and maybe a little too loud, but that's what organs sound like (either that, or very bassy) - the problem with that version of the song is the guitar work, more than the organ - it's appalling. the acoustic guitar sound's like an electro-acoustic - probably because it is - (and thus, shit - plus the playing is bad - it's probably dylan doing that); also there is another electric guitar playing really high notes which doesn't fit well with the organ at all, and the playing (again) is lack-luster. if the guitarists thought about their parts, then they'd fill the lo
  5. i don't care anymore - doris duke (it's a bit weird be singing a song about being a hooker, but it's too good not to join in) come back johnny bridie - the bee gees nothing is written in stone - andre ethier locked behind my true love's door - ronee blakley blitzen trapper - country caravan
  6. I actually use Caiman too, and they only take about a week to deliver to the UK. I'm not sure when I last bought a cd from a shop - they just can't compete with online prices and choice.
  7. Didn't someone say a track was recorded during the Modern Times sessions. Thus meaning it'll have a link to that album, if not in sound, then at least in terms of musicians. The Maker & jc4prez have said that the lyrics are bad on Modern Times; I wouldn't agree so much with that. I think the musicianship is what let Modern Times down - on the tracks where there seemed to be an effort to arrange the music it worked (Nettie Moore and Working Mans Blues #2 being good examples), and when they didn't it fell a bit flat. Listen to Love & Theft (especially, more so than Time Out Of Mind) a
  8. If it was one group of people recording the tracks (like Mermaid Avenue), I'd say this sounded like a good idea. The fact that it isn't just means it's going to end up being a mixed bag and be hard to listen to as a consistent piece. I want to hear more about Dylan recording with Rick Rubin early next year . . . that'll be more interesting (even if Modern Times was a big drop in quality after the 2 albums before)
  9. I guess I was viewing it from a British position, where public playing fields, cricket grounds etc... have been sold off for shopping centres and housing - giving the average child no chance of developing a liking for sport. If that's not the case in America, then I'm envious (well I'm not personally, but I am for the young of Britain).
  10. I don't really want to get into this argument, because I'm not too bothered one way or the other, but if you believe all the rumours he did sell Denny Laine down the river, for one thing. Unrelated: Have you seen he's knocking around with some married woman at the moment? - I wonder how that will all pan out? Unrelated again: I got the feeling the Bob Dylan Cadillac ad was because he was a DJ on XM, and they are it's sponsors. I guess he feels if he's going to work for the station, then he's going to do it 100%
  11. i don't think it's a compromise; so no - i don't think they feel they are losing anything of themselves from doing it. i'm just saying that if you view it as a compromise (which is what I thought El was saying) then that means you are saying they conceeded something (a negative aspect) to gain a positive one. therefore you can't really argue that it was ok for them to sell their songs to vw, without at least seeing why people feel the opposite. my view point is that they have always thought it ok to sell their stuff, but haven't had the chance - now they have, so they did.
  12. i think it generally doesn't matter to anybody, but those artists are hardly role-models and their relevancy is fleeting; which is why when you get someone that thinks beyond their own wants it is a thing which people gravitate towards. as for artists not being essential - art not only reflects society, but it shapes it - so it's not fundamentally essential like eating or breathing, but it can have as much of an impact as politics, and certainly is vital to western economy. there are always going to be politians shaping the world we live in (good or bad), like there will be artists - it's just
  13. a compromise means to give and take; so if they are gaining something from it, what are they losing? i wouldn't say that selling music to ad campaigns is a compromise in the context that you seem to be putting it, unless the ad agencies or the record label was demanding something more, and they said, "that's just too much, but how about we give you 3 of our songs to get you off our backs?" it certainly is an easy way to get your music heard by a lot of people, and make some money too, but it's not essential to do so - which is why many people don't.
  14. would guessing Jenna-talia be inappropriate?
  15. That's not a bad album. I've seen her a couple of times live, as she comes from the same area as me - once supporting The White Stripes in about 2001 (I think) along with The Dirtbombs, at The Kentish Town Forum. That was a good gig. NP. The Beach Boys - Smiley Smile
  16. I wonder if Pervez Musharraf is taking notes for Pakistan's democratic elections. Surely anyone that is swayed by this stuff probably needs to be dictated too in the first place! (and I'm not saying this from the point of view that British politics is any better - it's as bad, if not worse at times)
  17. 56. The 1980s let me down a lot - I said Afrika Bambaataa sang Froggie Went A Courtin! I thought it was such a strange answer that it had to be true - turns out I was wrong. And I didn't have a clue about what The Replacements used to be called. Actually, looking at the answers I've got loads wrong - how come everyone has a low score?
  18. It's not a torrent site, it's yousendit (you just need to sign up for free and then you can download the link as an mp3 file). If you can't do that, I'll email it to you if you send me your email via pm.
  19. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey - Fats Domino for all you Doubting Thomas types.
  20. You can't have heard Al Green's I Want To Hold Your Hand then? You also probably need to hear Fats Domino doing Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey. The Band's When I Paint My Masterpiece is pretty much a perfect song in my mind.
  21. 01 Panda Bear - Person Pitch 02 Robert Wyatt - Comicopera 03 Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam 04 Gruff Rhys - Candylion 05 Lavender Diamond - Imagine Our Love
