  1. i can be stopped in the street by somebody i taught then; and we'll talk about the old days; and we'll laugh about the thrashings that i gave him! actually every line in the clip is perfect. (back story: the little kid at the end was only there to pass a message on, and all the smokers forced him to look after their cigarettes) and we will produce history as others produce plays
  2. yeah, on imdb it says it's in pre-production for 2009 release. but, i thought it was his next film, and then this got made instead, so who knows when it'll come out or be made. here's the link it's going to be stop-motion.
  3. yeah, peacebone's great too. it's just nice to have a single where the b-side actually justifies buying the single (when it comes out, which i will)
  4. great music! let's hope it's all kinks songs. i can't wait for him to finish fantastic mr fox, that's always been one of my favourite roald dahl books as a child.
  5. animal collective - peacebone single (single of the year so far for me; mainly because the b-side - safer - is such a brilliant song)
  6. i capture the castle - dodie smith you can tell her it's a film too, if it'll make her more likely to read it.
  7. The Underwood Typewriter certainly stands out on the album for me too, that's a great song. I hope the album wins The Mercury Prize (as it's the only thing on the list I like), but I doubt it somehow.
  8. I reviewed the album here Quite a long time ago now. I have to be honest and say that I've not felt like listening to it much recently; it's still better than what most singer songwriter types today concider music, though.
  9. my point is that if they don't make enough money to live on whilst making music then they should work another job at the same time. if they are touring then they are making enough money to live on, it might not be enough money to retire at 30, but why should they have it any different than 90% of the rest of us? we aren't talking about slave labour, is my point; exactly how many musicians have starved to death recently? - this needs to be put into perspective, and also remember that this is about the record companies more than the artists, and the big record companies at that. by the way, th
  10. in china they have these sweat shops where they get all these musicians to churn out song after song with little pay and even less in the way of a 'lunch break'! apparently they are run by illegal downloaders. it's not like in the old days when musicians were paid in gold bars - even the lowliest mountain man wouldn't pick up a banjo without first dining on swans neck as motivation for his art. one of my favourite albums of recent years is lambchop's nixon - kurt wagner, the leader of the band, seemed to find time to make that whilst being a floor fitter. so, as my old man would say, "go get
  11. I wish I owned a good sounding version of this Neil Young & Graham Nash song; it's very good: War Song In the morning when you wake up You've got planes flying in the sky Flying bombs made to Break up other lies in your eye There's a man who says he can put an end to war They shot George Wallace down He'll never walk around Mines are sleeping in the sea Blow those bridges down Burn that jungle down and kill those Vietnamese. There's a man who says he can put an end to war. In the morning when you wake up You've got planes flying in the sky Flying bombs made to Break up other
  12. Oh, well, yeah. Fantastic. 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think 'Sunday, BLOODY Sunday!'.
  13. I heard that if illegal music downloading were to suddenly disappear over night, then the quality of music would go up by over 200% of its current quality; because artists will regain the impetuous to make good music again. And, if you ask any band or solo artist, they just don't have the will power to give their all when they know for a fact that some people won't actually be paying for their music. This is true, isn't it? Otherwise why else should we be giving a monkey bollock about the situation? I can think of lots of other professions that get shafted in regard to what they input in to th
  14. I can't wait for season 3 to come out on dvd next month. I don't know why no channels in the uk have bought the series, when all these other lesser shows get put on all the time. Couple of my favourite quotes: EB Farnum - "Be Quick" Calamity Jane - "BE FUCKED!" Steve Fields - "He motherfucked me!" (referring to Bullock calling him a motherfucker) Basically, anything that Jane says, and anything with swearing - they use it so well in this show!
  15. I want to look like this: but unfortunately I look more like this:
  16. The show did really poorly on TV, but it's very funny (well, I find it very funny). DVD came in the mail this morning, so will be watching tonight. There's some clips on youtube too:
  17. I'm really enjoying listening to it. I can't actually believe it's leeked, as it's not out until October, so I'm not sure how I'll actually feel by the time it comes out properly. Navy Nurse really stands out as a great song to me right now, along with The Philadelphia Grand Jury, Cabaret Of The Seven Devils (which is like something off of Rehearsing My Choir), and My Egyptian Grammar. At times I do find myself thinking I wished they could use real strings, though; and lose some of those silly drum sounds, at times.
  18. I thought it looked very interesting too - at least I'm excited to see this, when I've never been interested in musical biopics before. I think it was Bob Neuwirth from his look. I just think they were mashing up a whole bunch of references into one scene - like at the end when Neuwirth says "See Ya Later Allen Ginsberg" which is the song from the Basement Tapes.
  19. i was just feeding the pigs and i found that they were rolling around in the mud with the new fiery furnaces album. just thought i'd let people know; maybe a discussion could arise . . .
  20. It's actually incredibly hard to find on cd; all these old albums are generally easy to find on vinyl, it kind of depends whether someone is after a cd or vinyl copy of it. I'm more of a fan of his band Brinsley Schwarz than his solo work. Silver Pistol in particular is a brilliant album, with incredible songwriting - it actually sounds like The Band. Also, their first 2 albums are fine too. Then comes Nervous On The Road which is their most famous album and up there with Graham Parkers first few albums as the best of British Pub Rock. All these albums ARE easy to find, and they come as two
