That album sounds out of key, or musically out of time, or something like that.
-
I like the song Strange Currencies - that is about it.
-
I need to check it out some more.

That is sort of an interesting thing to do. I believe Blondie was the first band to make a film for each song on an album (Eat To The Beat).

That was my first thought. It sounded like a laid back Monster. R.E.M. Recruits James Franco, Albert Maysles to Helm 'Collapse Into Now' Videos

Actually, there is a lot about Bob and their relationship in the book.

Sundazed Record Store Day 2011 Limited Edition Releases

Those albums after Odessa after don't do much for me. There are some great songs in there from time to time though. It seems like some of that stuff comes out in the UK, and then here by way of Rhino some time later. I am still waiting for them to put out all of the T.Rex albums someday. As far as I know, Electric Warrior is the only one they have released. 1967 Bee Gees 1st 1968 Horizontal 1968 Idea 1969 Odessa

Those Handmade releases almost use to be a secret, but now they are advertising them all over the place. They seem to really be cranking them out these days. I think that may be what keeps them in business though, all of these expensive box sets, and special cd sets.

I've read about that guy.

I just read a news report that stated there were more than 70,000 people marching in Wisconsin yesterday. That's pretty amazing.

One of the amazing things to me about Sundazed, is that they often get their hands on the master tapes. I know this, as not only do they state it, but they post photos of the tape boxes. I think that is one of the things that makes a difference - the source tape. Of course, with some of the stuff you have talked about, the record album is the only source. But sometimes, you can really tell that the label had nothing to work with except digital files from who knows when, or copies of copies of master tapes. Whenever we have this sort of discussion, I am reminded of a old Rolling Stone

I sometimes feel Rhino does a great job on the artwork/booklet, but the sound of their re-issues suffers. Sundazed does a great job all the way around. I have several Legacy releases - but their tendency to put out the same stuff over and over again, with some slightly added stuff is tiresome. I suppose that is about all I know. Except for various other labels re-issuing cds. I don't really listen to anything but old rock music, so that is mostly what I know about. I have looked at the websites of some of those other labels. Like the folks at Sundazed, I'd say they do what they do

That makes me think of Courtesy Move.

R.E.M. Bassist: Touring Behind New Album 'Just Doesn't Feel Right'

Exactly. I can respect that. I just sent a photo of the scarf to someone.

I've seen those Crosley stereos - I would not buy one. I think there was some talk about those on here a few years ago. Of course, Sound Forge or something else would do a better job. But, whatever makes one happy is the thing to use. Black Sabbath at 78 speed is a reference to an old Cheech and Chong routine. I guess old Ozzy must need some more money for plastic surgery. I wonder how the powers that be came to pick him as the ambassador for record store day.
-
Don't ever play Black Sabbath at 78 speed.
-
I think it is due the grooves, as LB talked about. I know for the turntable we have at work a different needle was purchased to play 78s. I have seen the ones you talked about, where the mechanism flips around. I hope to have my turntable up and running sometime this year. I need to buy a new receiver.
-
If I recall correctly, there is a special needle just for playing 78s. They must be putting that out as a novelty. I don't think I have ever owned a 78.
-
He seems to be a busy guy since he retired from touring with Cheap Trick. Last year, he was part of the band Tinted Windows along with Taylor Hanson, James Iha and Adam Schlesinger.
-
I think it is sort of neat to read about some of these releases, but I have no desire to buy any of this stuff. And I'd say your right, there does seem to be more major label (what's left of them) interest. I think this may be due to the fact that there is a sudden revival of all things vinyl. I wondered about also. I think expensive high end turntables have that option. At least the one we have at work has that option.

Record Store Day (official website) By way of Capitol Records Beach Boys Page:

I am checking this out now. I don't know about the event, but there is a podcast up where both guys are commenting on various live tracks from each band. The talk is before or after the song, so it does not ruin the flow of the song. Chalk Dust Torture>Bird Song

I don't recall hearing anything about this until now: 'Killing Bono' Soundtrack To Feature Pre-U2 Song From Group That guy must have been mentioned in the U2 books I have read, but I can't place him at the moment.
