  1. When I young, I did not care for the post car/surf stuff - but as I got older, Friends became one of my favorite Beach Boys albums.
  2. Exactly. Speaking of Ringo, the reason he was using the kit he had during the Let It Be era was due to George hanging out with Hal, and admiring the kit he had. George then told Ringo about it. Or at least that is what Mr. Blaine states in his book. I have always rather liked the percussion/drum part around the first 30 seconds or so in Let's Go Away for Awhile. I've always thought Pet Sounds could be a film. When you think about the work it took to create and make that and Smile, you can't help but be astounded. All of those sections and parts of Heroes And Villains that came out o
  3. Oh, I respect it - but at least on some of the sessions of the old Smile, some of the band played on some of the tracks. At least I think that is true. I do know that they are on some of the Pet Sounds tracks. I've always admired the Wrecking Crew - particularity Hal Blaine. I also have a thing about drum sounds, and to me, the old stuff just sounds better.
  4. The thing is - it sticks out like a sore thumb to me. For various reasons - they are in their late 60s/early 70s now, and Dennis and Carl are gone. I would be surprised if Brian, Al, and Mike could get it together to actually do whatever it is they need to do. And of course - there is the issue of the equipment. As Little Steven once said - at some point these days - you have to go to the digital stage - no way around it. I'd much rather hear the original tapes turned to whatever digital form they have to be made into for us to get them - than I would a bunch of pro-tools effect laden vocal
  5. I'd say the old stuff sounds better. I hope they stick to not adding any vocals or other parts to anything.
  6. I don't think I will be buying any more Pearl Jam albums unless they go back to a more rocking sound. New Pearl Jam Album, Other Band Projects In The Works Eddie Vedder Solo Album 'Ukulele Songs' In May
  7. I am not sure, but I don't think he had updated that site in years. I think some of the recent Jefferson Airplane live cds that have came out in recent years were made from his tapes. Plus, there are tracks on some of the recent GD box sets from his tapes.
  8. David Gans has posted part of an audio interview he did with Stanley in 1991.
  9. From what I have read, I'd say he was also a few other things that would be rude to say now. I recall reading that he had suffered from some sort of cancer in recent years, so it is surprising to learn he died in a car wreck. He also had tapes of a lot of other bands. Some of which have came out on cd in recent years.
  10. I read somewhere a while back that Al had retracted what he said - and now this article appears on Billboard.com: Beach Boys' Lost 'Smile' Album to See Release in 2011
  11. A friend of mine (from Wheeling) just turned me on to that show.
  12. I bought that and Fables of The Reconstruction at the same time. Those albums were my first two. I also recall buying Succumbs. I still have it.
  13. Some of those passages read about the same as some of the stuff in Dave's book. From what I have read, Alex has been clean for several years now. It seems Eddie may be also. Supposedly, they are working on a new VH album with Dave.
  14. It's funny that they use the VH excerpts to push the book. Not his time in Montrose or his solo career. And lastly, a guy who owned a tequila company, and has a ton of songs about drinking and parting is going to jump on a dude who has a problem? Seems a bit odd. Sammy has always seemed sort of fake to me. I like the first Montrose album. Other than that, he does not do anything for me.
  15. It's funny, just about like U2, I think at this point I like the acoustic and/or slow songs better than whatever rocking songs they come up with. At least neither band is putting out albums of cover songs. And I hope they never do.
  16. I don't know - jut not my cup of tea. I like the REM that did songs about the South, and told stories. Every band changes, some older fans go along on the trip, some don't. Monster was one of the last cassettes I ever bought in an actual record store. I will give this new one a listen, but I doubt I will buy it.
  17. I had that whole deal. Those were remade a few years ago, but they are not as well made as they were back in the day.
  18. I think I meant to say the song What's The Frequency, Kenneth? sounds disjointed.
  19. You have to figure those dudes are reluctant to sign anything - as a lot of it is probably people looking to sell the item on Ebay.
