  2. Rednecks for Obama Palin sure as hell ain't no redneck.
  3. The sure like to use that New Haven footage over and over again. I think he was saying that there is some video out there that uses the footage of Jim driving around in his Mustang. The same footage that we saw in When You're Strange. I am not overly familiar with any of the commercial MTV type videos that have been made in the last two decades. The last Doors home video I bought was The Soft Parade.
  4. I can't think of what it was - I have to go - we'll find out.
  5. I think it may have been in some Doors release - the video for L.A. Woman perhaps. The Hollywood Bowl concert I have on video, it just the concert and nothing else. This is what I am thinking of: The Doors - L.A. Woman (They used the wrong car - that is a 64 Mustang, I think.)
  6. All of that car footage was shot for the film he was making. I've never seen it in such great quality before. I think he is a fan.
  7. I was not saying he was not fit for the task at hand, but rather, I was commenting on one of genres that influenced the Rolling Stones. Let me try again - Mick and Keith and Brian idolized black American blues musicians, and here is a TV show where a black American blues musician is shown performing one of their songs. Now - since Taj is a contemporary of theirs, my view is somewhat skewed. If it was B.B. King covering a Stones song, what I am trying to say would make more sense. I have read over the years that the British Invasion bands could not believe that the blues artists they w
  8. Phish - Loving Cup That had to be nerve wracking with Keith standing there. What all of those performers are missing is the dirt/sex groove inherit in the original recordings by the original band. You can't duplicate that. I have no doubt that Keith Urban has talent that I will never have, but to me, his music is sterile and plastic sounding. The funny thing about Taj Mahal's performance is that he is a black dude, doing his interpretation of a white dude's interpretation of the blues. Taj Mahal was in The Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus (which you can watch by way of Google v
  9. I am sure you can find blank tapes online somewhere. I think along with that, we are going to see more music being released by way of iTunes only in the future. I am not sure why a band would need a record company to take care of that. Marah must have a small management team, or not enough resources to do it themselves.
  10. I noticed recently that The Dollar Store still carries cassettes tapes. I have hundreds of them from back in the day. I'm not a fan of Jack White's music, but I have a new respect for him after reading that post.
  11. I was 13 when the album came out. I think I have an original pressing of it on vinyl. I know I still have the Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)/One of My Turns single. I respect the album. and have heard it many times, but never really got into it. That is partly due to Bob Ezrin's style of production. It's too polished for my taste. I am somewhat amazed by the comments about Roger lip-syncing or whatever it is called these days. I am surprised that he did not hire a Pink Floyd tribute band to back him on this tour. It will be interesting to see how much it cost him to put on the show vers
  12. Two things I have read in the past two days about sound quality: I don't have a link for Jack's post - as I think you have to be signed up at Third Man to read it. I found it on another message board. Marah sticks a fork in CD era?
  13. I've seen those photos. They were used in at least one Doors book over the years. I like the footage I saw last night, but the rest did not do anything for me. As someone said on another message board, we already know that stuff. Some of what Depp was saying was smoothed over, and/or changed from what I have always read. Still, it was neat to see all of that concert footage. It was shot for Feast of Friends. (Also - that car was Jim's. A 1967 Shelby GT500.)
  14. That opening footage of Jim in the Mustang is from his film HMY.
  15. I missed watching the show last night. I think that is only the second episode I have ever missed watching. It's a good thing it is online. I can see why people would not like it, but I think it is alright.
  16. Was it The Collected Jeff Tweedy 1997-2003 that you grabbed?
  17. From the clips I saw, I don't think I would want to see it. I suppose the last Beatles movie I saw was Backbeat(1994).
  18. I think it was in the other Beatles thread, or maybe some movie thread. It may be thinking of the discussion we had around here on the film Chapter 27. Are you familiar with The Hours and Times (1991)?
