Well, do you know the song Generic America by the great alt. country band that never seems to get their due, Blue Mountain? Stop being lazy - it does not get you anywhere at the end of the day.

Paisley Underground I forgot to mention that one.

I wasn't allowed to see that film (Jaws) back in the day - I was 9 years old when it came out. The usual: Salem's Lot, Phantasm, Communion

Hopefully, people wake up and don't just cast their vote on the so-called family values deal, leadership in times of war, and religious beliefs of canidates this time. We'll see. I figure my state will go for McCain though - but I know I won't be voting for him.

I think there is a definition - we just like to bend it. It's not opinion - it's the work of whoever makes up this genres names and time periods. If someone can offer proof that Buck Owens music was called alt.country in 1965, for example, then I will accept it. But, to me, and I believe Jeff speaks of this in the Kot book, alt. country was a mixture of country and punk/hardcore music. I, like many others, often say "I hate labels" or whatever. But, what do you say when someone asks you what kind of music you are into? I say alt.country (no one outside of people like you find here know

I hope she listens to you - seriously. I suppose you have to know that time and place I come from, there was no talks, no sex ed, no anything. So, maybe I am a bit fouled. I also do not have any kids - that I know of anyhow. So, I suppose I am going by what I did as a teenager, what those around me did when I was a teenager, and other life experiences since that time.

He's not a pervert - he's from Pittsburgh. Anyhow - once one learns about the friction, that is friction besides the friction they can make with themselves, it is all over. I don't think JC, The PTA, Doris Day, The FBI, CIA, or Mom and Pop, can stop it. Teenagers do what they do right? I sure did.

You are jabbing at people - why? We may not like them - but we all know these labels exist - dad rock, speed metal, heavy metal, alt. country, punk rock, etc. The term alt.country was not used in the 60s (as far as I know) it was called "country rock", or as Gram Parsons called it, "cosmic American music." I don't think Townes or Stever Earle would much care to be called alt.country. To me, it is a movement that grew out of the Cowpunk and the punk/hardcore movement. Therefore, alt.country could not have existed until after bands such as The Clash and Black Flag were around and gone.

Looks like he has had a make over, yes?

Go away.

Well, as far as the label goes, I don't recall reading about people refering to the Byrds or Gram Parsons as alt.country in any of the reviews or articles I have read from the time period in which they created the music. I think he is right - we have had this sort of thread/discussion about the label alt.country many, many times here over the past 6 years.

There's an interview with his mother at this site - towards the bottom of the page. Whenever I see clips from the RNC, I can't help but think of the film Idiocracy.
-
Oh sure. At least they did not pull a Neil Young and go for a Republican.

I'd like to see the whole show of the clips I posted - the ones where Brian is wearing the Harley shirt. I suppose it is on one of their dvds?
-
It's the end of Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
-
Thanks. Now, are you one of the people who bought some of those cds?
-
That does not surprise me.
-
Well - we have a politics thread for this sort of thing, but at that press conference a while back, they said that he was the real deal. So I guess they look at him and see hope for the future.
-
You should be original though - make something new.
-
Wilcoworld Tour dates Page Plus - there is already a thread down below this one were you can find discussion about all of these shows.

You should put that on a T-Shirt.
