  1. I also chose "You Are My Face", it's a pretty clear number 2 for me. Number three would be harder. P.S. Would anyone choose "Walken"? And would it earn them a swift kick in the teeth? lol.
  2. Hey guys, I didn't know where to put this so feel free to move it... Something pretty cool just happened: I beat out 40+ other contestants who shared their favorite Wilco lyric/live moment/etc. on "I am Fuel you are Friends". I have all their albums but nothing beats the sound of Vinyl. http://www.fuelfriendsblog.com/2010/05/05/i-know-ill-make-it-back-one-of-these-days-wilco-vinyl-contest/ To have this topic serve more of a purpose than just bragging, why don't you guys share your favorite Wilco live moment or obscure lyric that somehow means a lot to you personally? C.
  3. I can confirm the download is definitely fine, slow, but fine. P.S. I find Megaupload and Rapidshare usually offer better speeds for free users like us. Thanks so much for your upload, I really enjoyed listening to the show today. His banter in the beginning kind of inadvertently insulted the audience, and he apologizes for it later, pretty funny if you ask me. P.S. How great was spiders, once again....
  4. I thought the performance was great and rewinded the dvd immediately to hear it again, but I guess they play their more accesible songs on late night shows, at least they didn't play You & I (they did that on Conan though I think). I think you'd be surprised how much show closer performances are shot in advance, I know Conan made a quip about Bon Jovi being backstage during a x-mas show (if I remember correctly) laughing at the jokes hinting that it was all make-belief; the "live" element. He'd say stuff like 'lets get a camera backstage so we can see how Richie Samboa liked that one".
  5. let me nuance, an intimate soundcheck performance of "spiders"; like the one in the living room show that's now so hard to find on the net. Definitely an acoustic set before or amidst electric favorites. Set list including: "Someday Somemorning Sometime" "Mountain Bed" "Pieholden Suite" "When The Roses..." "Be Not So Fearful" "Country Disappeared" When the electric guitars come back, must-plays (if you will) Hell is Chrome Can't Stand It Company In My Back Less than You Think (last song) or On and On and on (last song) or Reservations (last song)
  6. That's a cool story. I think I got about 65% of the words down, though "Bitter tastes of twigs we chewed where tangled wood vines twine" is a bit of tongue-twister. P.S. I kind of like your blog, by which I mean I really like your blog but I like to be aloof about things I like for the sake of appearances . Did someone mention Nels' pedal steel in "When The Roses Bloom Again" live yet? If so, good call. If not, congratulate me on my call.
  7. Those are two substitutions I'd make as well. Chinese Apple benefits too much from electric instruments to go into a Jeff solo show, I like Satan in the list though, I've found a new appreciation recently for that traditional folkie.
  8. I'll check that out, mine was about half a year later in the Vic. Jan 6th 03. He says to the audience: "If I do this, you have to help me". The next day of his residency, someone requested Mountain Bed again. The audience member shouts "We'll help with the words". Tweedy: "That's what you said last night and every time I glanced at somebody for help they were all [presumable does "I don't know" face] What's a high-hat? Mine changes about every couple of days too, that's pretty strange after listening to them obsessively for 18 months. Currently it definitely is Pieholden Suite and my
  9. How about whenever Jeff forgets the lyrics on one of the bootlegs? There's actually a killer version of remember the mountain bed that gets cut short very unfortunately. It's the januari 6th 2003 show at the Vic.
  10. I heard a bootleg recently where an audience member request a song, and Tweedy replied "Nah we're not gonna be doing that one", to which the audience member said "but it's brilliant". Jeff's rebutal: "No it's not....". I'll try to find which one the song in question is, but I'm sure he's had second thoughts about his own songwriting, especially some of the early lyrics, but hey, I think he's the kind of guy to be more critical of himself than the average fan. About this argument, not to throw gasoline on the flame again, I never thought a statement like " x song is the probably the most po
  11. Is it a given that "One Wing" is the most popular new song? B/c it gets mentioned a lot around here.
  12. I've been listening to these guys for a couple of years and this is what I come up with when I make a top ten list: 01) Spit on a Stranger 02) Father to a Sister of Thought 03) Killing Moon (Echo&The Bunnymen cover) 04) In The Mouth of a Desert 05) Summer Babe (Winter Version) 06) Fin 07) Trigger Cut 08) Zurich is Stained 09) AT&T 10) Harness Your Hopes
  13. I see now why you have 15K posts lol.
  14. Great version of "Secret of the Sea", though they look foolish admittatly.
  15. That one was a hard call to make, but I feel the version on "Kicking Television" is superior to the studio version. I haven't heard any other renditions though that come close to KT version, so I see why you'd say the perfection of the album can never be achieved with that song. I think Cline's restrained solo and Jeff's incredibly delicate vocal achievement take this song to new heights. And it's one of my favorite songs of theirs period. Kamera is the best sounding Wilco track production-wise as far as I'm concerned. As for the other end of the spectrum, the song that improves most from s
  16. The review has some truth to it, but that particular part makes me cringe. It astounds me how an easy rocker like "Casino Queen" can be picked over the complex and rich melody of "Handshake Drugs" or the musical and lyrical poetry of "Ashes". Now, if they had said "Kingpin", I'd have given them more credit. Besides, they forget about "Kicking Television", which is as good an angry, scorching rocker as any of the early ones. And it's a b-side for crying out loud. Take an a-side like "I'm A Wheel", forget about it, there's smoke coming out of those guitars. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums

  18. I don't really have a finger on the pulse of the Wilco community, I just heard it mentioned here and there by people who first became aware of Wilco through SBS, and all the buzz it got in Europe. I can imagine what you say to be very true indeed, I definitely hear some AGIB in SBS but people who spend less time listening to the albums over and over again might not hear this and talk about "a stylistic change", more than I would. This harsh reception every most recent album is nothing new, I even found to my great surprise and shock, several scathing AGIB fan reviews dating back to '04. S
  19. Side With The Seeds: Right after Tweedy sings "so why side with anything", Nels' guitar comes in, and it speeds up really fast and goes over in a bitchin' solo. Of course the guitar solo at the end is longer but this one takes the cake when it comes to making my blood boil. Ashes of American Flags "Kicking Television" version: one of my favorite Nels Cline solo's after all the lyrics 've been sung. Absolutely face-melting and spine-tingling. Theologians "Sunken Treasure" version: I love this stripped down version, especially the lazy pace of the intro and the warm sound of the single guita
  20. I think WTA is their most playful record since Summerteeth, and you can feel the fun coming out of the speakers. More than half the songs sound really good: Wilco (The Song), Deeper Down, One Wing, Bull Black Nova, Country Disappeared, Solitaire and Everlasting Everything. You & I, Sonny Feeling, I'll Fight and You Never Know are clearly lesser quality songs in my opinion. Considering I also don't like two or three tracks on Sky Blue Sky that's not too bad for fresh material by a band that's been putting out records since '95. People should give this album a break, they wanted this alb
  21. Nice read, I'm hoping for a louder, more lyrically ambitious record next year but I pretty much take WTA as it is: a nice interlude.
  22. No you're not wrong, you did forget the best folk song in his repertoire: Remember The Mountain Bed. Misstep or intentional?
  23. yes! One of the best moments on BT and a large part of why I like the song so much. Weird ain't it. This is one of the great moments on SBS, I just want to leap into the air with joy every time I hear it. When Jeff's voice sings "I'd like to rest my heavy head tonight...on a bed...of california stars" in a higher note for the first time. The intro to "I'm The Man Who Loves You" is one of their best. The transition between Poor Places and Reservations is hands down the greatest one in their catalog. The bassline in Handshake drugs. The outro of "Less Than You Think" (am I gonna
