  1. Love the Sinclair. I'll next be there for X.
  2. posting at 5:21 a.m., I hope you get a nap before the show! OK, I give up, who is that?
  3. Agreed. To quote my good buddy: "I started at the bottom and started to work up. I got to Deerhunter and stopped (prime competition = Vampire Weekend). Really?" My mid-20's kid and friends would say Kanye ruled for those years, but he doesn't qualify as per the author's rules.
  4. Interesting piece published by Steven Hyden on Grantland. http://grantland.com/features/the-american-band-championship-belt/ The title says what it is, his opinion on the best American band year by year (or multiple years in many cases) for the last 50. I've only skimmed it so far, but a few lines caught my attention. "I tried to be as impartial as one can be when handing out a fictional prize on the basis of perceived artistic value. There are times when I chose groups that I personally don’t feel that strongly about, but whose résumés were indisputable. There were also times when pers
  5. I didn't realize it was Re-recordings. I assumed it was a compilation of tracks previously released. I love RT, I will get a disc of new recordings of his acoustic playing of those songs.
  6. On a purely selfish perspective, I was really looking forward to hopefully seeing Weir sit in with Wilco at Lockn'. And the Ratdog>Phil and Friends>Furthur progression on Friday.
  7. Announced today that Bob Weir and Ratdog immediately canceled all scheduled dates. Including Lockn', which also means no Furthur. Whatever it is, can't be good.
  8. I hear the film is in editing mode and being actively worked on.
  9. Who do you think would be better than Front Gate? Not that I'm a Front Gate fan boy, but If such a thing exists, I haven't come across it.

  11. Absolutely right. I don't know why I have that labeled as Roosevelt Stadium, could be from '73. Jerry was definitely beardless in '74, which totally spaced me out when they came out.
  12. I got 2 for Boston, center orchestra (but Row U).
  13. So many highlights: Playing>Scarlet>Playing (in first set!), and that monster Sugar Mag jam sequence in the second set. Can't believe I got a Spanish Jam at my first show (although I'm sure I didn't appreciate the significance as I would later). Definitely a show for the ages.
  14. It was 40 years ago today, August 6, 1974, I stepped into Roosevelt Stadium, the Orange Sun was Shining brightly, the Wall of Sound was staring us down, a beardless Jerry and band stepped out into the sunshine and kicked into Bertha, and away we went. First show. At least I've been enjoying the ride.
  15. I'll be the first to admit that Phish has some terribly stupid songs (most of which are from early in their career, with Wombat a current era example), and even their best songs don't hit my gut lyrically like a Tweedy or Garcia/Hunter song does. My brain doesn't connect with Phish for the lyrics. Either that or I have an empty brain since I'm always up for hearing a David Bowie rage!
  16. From today's Boston Globe: http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2014/08/02/the-allman-brothers-fillmore-tapes-get-deluxe-treatment/TUe3r75wrd94VEqXOxYQYI/story.html The writer says the"peak" live album era was '69-71. There's lots of reasons why I disagree with that statement. Starting with a little 3 lp set called Europe '72.
  17. I'll be interested to read what you think of the 5.1 surround sound mix. I've read that it sounds like you're sitting front row center of the Fillmore, all the music coming out of the front speakers and crowd ambient sound coming out of the rear surround sound speakers.
  18. I think what Analogman may be referring to is that the photo wasn't taken outside the Fillmore East. It was later shot outside a warehouse in Macon, set up to make it look like it was taken outside the Fillmore. That too.
  19. At the Mansfield show, it was hot and sticky, the air wasn't moving at all, and we were surrounded by cigarette smokers and guys farting. I had none of that last night! I will always go to shows, nothing beats the live experience, but I do love doing a couch tour. And Phish does it well, lots of cameras, good audio, etc. Interesting to me that you so enjoyed the 2 shows you saw, but watching and listening to, say, Chalkdust or First Tube last night didn't move you. The power of being present at a show I guess.
  20. Got my 1971 Fillmore East Recordings box set in today. The 6 cd version. Listened to disc 1, the early show from March 12. Sounds freakin awesome! The music is so "present." Very psyched to finally be able to listen to all of this.
  21. Mine didn't arrive today. Which is ok, as my Allman Brothers Complete Fillmore East box did. 6 discs. That will keep me occupied.
  22. I was having a lot of bufferin/connection troubles during the first set (Verizon FIOS), was really distracting and hard to watch. But it all smoothed out by Kill Devil Falls>Suzie, and it was all smooth sailing for the remainder. I was really tired and kept wanting to go to sleep, but couldn't break away. I did shut it down after the second set ended, so missed the Fluffhead encore. Great show, great tour.
  23. Just to clarify, those are TWEEDY dates, not Wilco dates.
