  1. They have been really inconsistent with their communication with me for the past two months or so. We stayed there last year and it was great; I was hoping to return this year, but I'm really not sure what's going on.

Me too. A couple of emails went by with no response and then I got busy with holiday season and didn't follow up until last week with another unanswered email. So I decided to call. The new owner took a couple of days to get back to me but apologized and said that he saw the email exchange that I had with the previous owner and would honor my reservation and payment. I would try calling or emailing info@williamstownmotel.com for Ashwan, the new owner. I think the old email that I was using: manager@williamstownmotel.com might be a dead email now.

  2. Just an FYI: If you booked a room at the Williamstown Motel, you may want to call to confirm. The property changed hands as of Jan 1st. The previous owner required prepayment in full by Dec 31st which I thought was odd but I did it anyway since we had stayed there a couple of times in the past and thought they were just instituting this new policy for Solid Sound weekend. Now it seems that they wanted to collect the money before the sale of the property went through. So, it's probably best to call the new owner to make sure you are confirmed and that your payment will carry over.

  3. Someone should probably start a rideshare thread specifically for people who are staying farther out than the shuttle line. My experience has been that people get all warm and fuzzy and friendly and are more than happy to offer lifts to fellow festival-goers, but it would be nice to make those connections ahead of time rather than wait for good fortune to strike at the festival itself.

It might be a bit early to start that up now, but maybe around early May someone should start a Ride Connect thread.

These's a ride share set up on the Solid Sound website.

  4. What's the parking like in N Adams? How/where do the shuttles run?

Our hotel is in Pittsfield (approx. 30 minutes away) so if anyone who's done this before can offer any advice I'd greatly appreciate it.

We were able to park in North Adams' just a few blocks away from MASS MoCA each day last year. The shuttle ran between Williamstown and North Adams so you'd need to rent a car if you are staying in Pittsfield unless they add to the shuttle route this year but I kind of doubt they'd go that far.

  5. Well, of course. Is anyone thinking that the choice of other artists would influence whether or not they come to the festival? That would be crazy!

To me, this thread is all about speculation and musing: Which side projects will perform? Who will Wilco and their management decide fits in well with the vibe of the festival--Artists who inflenced Wilco? Up and coming artists who represent some of the sensibilities of Wilco members? I've loved how eclectic the choices have been in the past years.

Of course we are going to speculate. I've already done so twice in this very post. No one is going to take that from you. Just making a point about how great the event is regardless of the line up.

  6. For me Wilco and Mass Moca are enough...which is why I already bought the early worm tickets. The rest is just icing on the cake.

...and I've already seen Wilco many, many, many times and been to Mass Moca many times as well. Both still totally worth it.

  7. I would love to see the Jayhawks play at Solid Sound - I think they would like the vibe at the festival. And the potential for a Golden Smog cover like Radio King, with Jeff joining Gary during a Jayhawks set or Gary joining Jeff in a Wilco encore, would be a great bonus.

Yes. That'd be cool too. Radio King has always been one of my favorites.

  8. There has been some talk about The Replacements reuniting recently. Paul Westerberg & Tommy Stinson did a couple of things together to help with Slim Dunlop's medical bills from his stroke last year. If they played, it would be beyond fantastic.

  9. the lodging options are the weakest part of the festival imo, but you can't fault the festival for booking the entire holiday inn if they need it. the first year a friend of mine was one of the artists (Sir Richard Bishop) and he ended up having to stay somewhere in Bennington.

Lodging is a problem. I would suggest people also try vrbo.com I'm sure some local folks will be renting their places for the weekend.

  10. I plan to cross the Atlantic and attend Solid Sound next year.

Though it's not clear to me how many nights I need to book.

From the Boston shuttle schedule I assume that the festival starts on Thursday late afternoon and ends on Sunday afternoon.

However, I'm a bit confused since the page for campsite info shows "check in begins Friday, June 21, at 11am".

Since I'm not from the US, any tip and/or advice about accomodation would be greately appreciated.

    Thanks.

The last 2 festivals have started on Friday evening. I've been to the past 2 and arrived on Friday evening around 5-6pm. You could plan to leave on Sun evening as most everything is done by 6-7pm. I have stayed the night and headed back on Monday both times. There are some nice little little towns in the area that are worth exploring, ex. Williamstown, Stockbridge, Lenox... but if you are taking a shuttle you may not be able to do that.

  11. When you follow the link I can't read everything in the first entry--it seems to be truncated, but maybe it's just my phone. Anyway two full Wilco concerts for sure, and then I couldn't read the rest of the entry. Please please please let there also be a Tweedy solo show!!

What you are seeing? I don't see anything listing two Wilco shows.

I mean that'd be great but where are you seeing that?

Edit: nevermind. I see it now. I missed it on first read.

  12. Reminds me a bit of Daniel Johnston, actually.

And I don't mean that as an insult (I am a fan), there is just something about it -- an amateurishness -- that reminds me of DJ.

    But I like it.

Oh, and something in his voice sounds to me like he's drinking again. Hopefully that's just an affectation.

I love Westerberg (& Johnston) and I agree with you but I don't think it's a good thing and I'm not digging the song all that much.
