  1. First time seeing the DBTs, I enjoyed it. Great set list, got to see lots of tunes on my wish list. I've always been kinda ambivalent on Cooley's tunes but done live, there's a lot of energy that mostly doesn't translate for me from their records. Last third of the show they really kicked it into high gear. Of course, that's when we were leaving but I had two 15 yr old boys in tow and it was a school night so its all good.

Today I discovered Jimmy Kimmel's "Drunken Trump" film clips. Hilarious!
  3. Back when I was a rookie in such matters, I was at a basement party having a good time and I saw colorful sound waves coming out of the speakers. It was fantastic and I would pay good money for that experience again.
  4. Every 10 years or so I reread "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and every time I'm amazed at how wonderful a writer Kesey is. G'damn that man could really turn a phrase.
  5. Mr Heartbreak, that happened to my brother at a Steve Winwood concert back in 86ish. He got so zonked that I had to walk him around the venue. He ended up barfing. The next day he told me he was seeing people with orange pumpkin heads wearing black capes. Very odd because what we had was mid grade at best.
  6. Saw Pink Floyd in 87ish at the Rosemont Horizon during their Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Worst concert I've ever seen, incredibly boring. It pains me to say that because I do like their records. Anyways, the Rosemont pigs were really obnoxious that night. They were pulling people out of their seats, left and right, for lighting up. I was sitting next to a guy who seemed normal but when the lights went down and the show started, he started acting strange. Like he started touching the people around him, myself included. I told him to knock it off which thankfully he did. But he couldn't stop
  7. We turned it off at the end of the 3rd quarter and I took the dog for a long walk so I missed the whole thing.
  8. Me and my wife finished Freaks and Geeks yesterday. Best TV show ever? Quite possibly.
  9. Good times last night seeing the DBTs at the Vic. A few observations: they weren't sold out, the crowd was decidedly middle aged-leaning heavily on males, the sound in the balcony was muddy, my son and his buddy (15 yrs) were the youngest in attendance, I found a new appreciation for Cooley's tunes, due to it being a school night we left early and missed Angels and Fuselages (arg!) but ended up at White Palace Grill for a tasty breakfast. $200 night but worth it.

Today I learned that Deep Purple is touring this summer! No Blackmore or Lord but still.....
  11. Mine are concerned. They both see right thru the trump BS.

    Today

Today I forgot to mention that last Friday night a guy was murdered in his car across the street from my house. Shot to death in a parking lot while waiting for his son.
  13. Saw Howard and the White Boys last night at the Harlem Ave Lounge. I haven't seen them play in a looooong time. Man, were they good. If you like the Blues, they are definitely worth your time.
  14. I almost lost my marbles after that recent ABC interview. His total disconnect from reality, the grandstanding and the shallowness of it all was stupefying. Four years of outrage.....OMFG.
  15. Who was it that said "Pay no attention to what I say. Pay attention to what I do" or something like that. That's the approach that needs to be taken with the trump administration. I think he and his cronies are deliberately filling the air with lies and distractions to keep the opposition off kilter.
  16. Watched "Finding Vivian Maier" last night. Very well done. I love her style and am looking forward to the litigation surrounding the ownership of her work to get settled.
  17. The honeymoon wont last forever. Those idiot anarchists or thugs working for trump will screw it up.
  18. Plus, if something did happen and the crowd panicked, those strollers would be trampled.
  19. Speaking of kids, while at the Chicago march, we saw a number of parents pushing those big old strollers with small kids in them. One of them was a doublewide. I don't know about the other marches (I'm assuming they were similar in nature) but it was so damn crowded that we could barely make our way thru the crowd and here are these parents expecting people to get out of their way because they are pushing a stroller. It seemed like a very poor choice these parents made. Also, get off my lawn!
  20. Watched Hell or High Water last night. Awesome dialog, hints of Coen to it. The guy who looked like a young George Clooney was pretty good too. Actually, all the actors did a fine job.
  21. After yesterdays despair, todays experience at the march brought a certain measure of hope. The sun coming out for the first time in what seems like weeks certainly helped. The 60 degree temps were welcomed too. My wife, daughter and I got to the march site around 10am and found it incredibly packed with people. We marched down Michigan avenue a few blocks and found a nice spot to observe our fellow marchers. It was a rainbow of people and smiles and great protest signs. We ended up at Daley Plaza and watched the marchers head east on Washington. All told, a very pleasant and inspiring event.
  22. Sounds appropriate. I listened to some of DBT's Southern Rock Opera, specifically Angels and Fusilages
