  1. Today is the only time I can recall that I voted against a candidate rather than for a candidate.

I went last night in Chicago and despite the fact that I really don't enjoy seeing shows at large venues, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Roger and Pete both sounded great (as did the rest of the band). The presentation on video boards behind the stage was spectacular (much like the Quadrophenia tour). The set list was mostly pretty predictable -- all the hits -- except for a couple of inspired notable exceptions (The Rock & Amazing Journey/Sparks). What I enjoyed most was, despite their long history of disagreements, the relationship between Roger and Pete has evolved or matured to one

  4. ^^ All fair points. And I have no problem with band wagon fans. As a Sox fan, I welcome any and all kinds of fans who happen to wander down to the Southside. I think the media hype this spring has been a bit over the top, but that's not unexpected given last season and that the Cubs seem be far more popular these days than the White Sox.
  5. ^^^ I guess one person's "fact" is another person's opinion. For you to say "the Cubs are an extremely good team right now" is an opinion, not a fact. "If all goes to plan they should win in the neighborhood of 95 to 100 games . . " is not a fact. It's a prediction/opinion. The Cubs look great on paper. But they have to, you know, play the games. And if the past is prologue, well you how the season will likely end. Cub fans, more than any other fan base should lay low, relax and temper their expectations. They are set up for a nice 4-5 year stretch. But stuff happens.
  6. ^^^ Pictures or it didn't happen
  7. Tinnitus -- I immediately listened to that song yesterday upon hearing of Nancy's death!

^^^ I saw Simon live at a small club in Champaign, IL in 1984. I'm pretty sure I suffered permanent hearing loss at the show!
  9. As much as I love baseball (longtime White Sox season ticket holder) I'm actually kind of dreading this season. I don't hold out much hope for the White Sox -- 83 wins would seem to be a successful season on the Southside and the hated Cubs are seemingly loaded. The Northside hype train is barreling down the track. What could possibly go wrong? Right, Cub fans? What could possibly go wrong? *insert diabolical laughter*

I'm going a week from tonight in Chicago. I agree with the prior posts on the Quadrophenia tour. It was excellent. I feel like this really will be the last go around and tour for them and wanted one last chance to see them (though the "last tour" chatter has been going around since Keith died -- has there ever been a band who has had so many "farewell tours"?). I'm looking forward to seeing them again in a melancholy sort of way.
  11. ^^^ "Entertaining" in a "scare the sh*t out of you" kind of way. Like really bad turbulence.
  12. Shovels and Rope opened for Isbell in Chicago and played a 45 minute (or so) set. And they were quite good!
