This is my problem with a lot of the stuff you post, to be honest. It's so well written (or fluffed up with good writing, I guess) that it is difficult to argue with even if there are flaws in the logic.

I actively disagree with this. There are countless exampled of countries doing far worse than us and we've turned our heads to it.
