  1. My biggest problem with GW is that once Al Gore made a movie about it, people became fucking adamant that it must be true. I distrust anyone who has no doubt on anything as complicated as GW. I've been a fan for a while. He's probably the smartest dude on this board.
  2. My whole point is I understand that it is, for many people, a religious thing, it is also for just as many, an economic thing. This is why I don't believe it is a strictly god-made institution (though, my personal belief system being that nothing is a god-made institution might have something to do with this, I admit.)
  3. I could definitely use some advice, as I"m also camping all 3 nights of Langerado. What d'you got?
  4. Cool. If you disagree, why not discuss it. Is it on religious reasons? Fine, I understand where you are coming from. It doesn't change the fact that from where I see it, marriage, and especially marriage in our country, which is sanctioned and governed by the federal government, is a man-made institution. If you disagree, say why. Don't just vaguely say "I disagree".
  5. Explain it then. I don't see how it isn't a man-made institution. Seeing as, like, everything on earth is.
  6. I'm a crazy war mongering republican. Marriage is definitely a man-made institution. Of course, so is the church, the NFL, etc.
  7. They probably still won't go to Florida.
  8. Dolphins kind of suck. They are the smartest animals in the animal kingdom. Woohoo! You show me a person who is as intelligent as a dolphin and I'll show you George Bush.
  9. On people. While I still generally believe most people have good intentions and are fairly intelligent, I also believe that, especially when it comes down to election season, most people are fucking crazy.
  10. The Blue Note Jazz Tent was arguably my favorite part of the festival last year. That was such a welcome break from the noise and heat. You walk in and it's shocking how cool and dark it is. I caught some great stuff in there. I'm definitely going and camping out this year. The hotel was nice, but I need the whole experience, I think. Thats definitely a strong lineup for the most part. Pearl Jam and Metallica put on great shows.
  11. Nice lineup, I'm definitely gonna be there (was planning on it before they announced the line up). Wouldn't be surprised to see Robert Plant show up in the Super Jam on Saturday night.
  12. I was agreeing more with the Bill Simmons stuff. I can't stand that guy.
  13. I would argue his increases in OBP and SLG are offset in 04 by his stealing percentage dropping pretty drastically. This is, of course, without looking it up. BP says: he was worth a full win more in 03, but that is mostly due to his drop from a simply bad defensive center fielder to a terrible one. Offensively, it's a push.
  14. Fuckin a', man. That was beautiful. Off topic: I need to read The Blind Side. It has been billed as the Moneyball of football. It makes the point that the the most important player on the field is the left tackle, something that I've considered before. It's supposed to be an incredible book.
  15. That first paragraph is meaningless to me. The second is ok. Just because he hasn't had Pro-Bowlers next to him doesn't mean he hasn't had some great players. They have great offensive lines, great tight ends and good to great receivers in his tenure. He's one of the 2 best quarterbacks in the league right now. My question is if the Buffalo Bills win one or two of the 4 super bowls they play in during the 90's, do people start putting Jim Kelly near the top of all time lists? And if so, how do those 2 games affect him? You have to take super bowl victories out of the equation when discu
  16. I lost my mind when it happened. I could not believe what just happened. I still can't. Word. The catch it almost as remarkable, maybe more so. "The Great Escape" was just one I've been kicking around.
  17. Eli got the MVP for "The Great Escape".
  18. I would say you can discount WP almost entirely, but that's just me. Jay Fiedler had 5/6 winning seasons as the quarterback of the Dolphins. He is alot of things, but he definitely isn't a good quarterback. Some quarterbacks elevate the players around them on offense. Brady, Manning, Marino, et al. But they still don't play defense. I don't see what is so hard to see about this. A team is only as good as it's offense and defense. The quarterback only effects one part of this. Is he the single most important player on the field at any given moment? Probably. But, at best, he controls 50%
  19. Simple defenses are often the most effective. Brady and Manning will pick you apart of you do one of two things: Get no pressure on them, or bring too many guys and leave people open. This is obvious, and goes for any quarterback, but especially these two, who can read blitzes and coverages as well as any. You aren't going to trick them with zone blitzes or complicated coverage schemes. You are going to beat them by breaking the pocket with 4 guys, or maybe 5 if you've got a really effective secondary. Look at the teams that give these guys fits. Pittsburgh, San Diego, Miami (for the Pats u
  20. So 2000 was a primo example of electile dysfunction, right?
  21. I was saying this the other day to my friend: Juan Pierre was a borderline good leadoff hitter for 2 years in Florida, and I loved him. He was exciting to watch and he wasn't killing the team. But since his value was entirely based on his BA, once that slipped below .300, he became not so much fun to have on your team. But he was pretty awesome during 2003.
  22. Can you argue with what I said? Regardless of how easy it is or isn't to get this done, this has been the only way people have beaten them in the past few years. I've always felt Brady's been an overrated QB. He's maybe a top 10 of all time for me, but that's mostly because I don't really care about how many Super Bowl winning teams a qb has been on when ranking them. Dan Marino is the greatest quarterback I've ever seen, but he played on some awful teams, so he never won one. How can you blame him for that?
  23. Manning and Brady can both be beaten by getting pressure on them with only 4 or 5 rushers. This has always been the key to beating them.
