Wilco — 19 November 2019, Denver, CO (Mission Ballroom)
Alone in the Zone replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Have to agree. Have seen roughly 50 Wilco shows, including all but first SSF, and this was an absolute top-tier scorcher. -
Logging in after a long hiatus to say that this is fantastic and that everyone who logs into this message board will probably love it. I like it all, even the Parquet Courts mashup. Agree with others that the Vile cut is a standout. But honestly they are all solid.

Fair warning: there is stuff in the later chapters that will definitely choke you up. The story about the inscription on Jeff’s father’s grave about broke me in two.
-
FWIW, I knocked out a few chapters of the audio version read by Jeff this morning, and I loved it. Laughed out loud a few times during intro. Hearing Jeff read it is the way to go. In a couple of places, his reading affects the meaning of the text. This is true of most good memoirs, of course, but if you’re reading this, you probably already think Jeff’s voice and inflection are the key to why his banter is great. So far, I would say that anyone who reads this board or has been to SSF will enjoy this very much.

Correction! Fourth time!

Hi - my friend Dave and I will be going for our third time. Last time, we covered our trip and wrote it up (links below). Not covering this time - just fun. It would be cool to meet some of you in person. Is there a meet up or some indicator of VC membership? http://www.chunkyglasses.com/content/patrick-and-dave-go-to-solid-sound-2015-an-oral-history-transcribed-from-imaginary-basement-tapes-part-1 http://www.chunkyglasses.com/content/patrick-and-dave-go-to-solid-sound-2015-an-oral-history-transcribed-from-imaginary-basement-tapes-part-2-of-3 http://www.chunkyglasses.com/content/pat

Looks like KEXP will be doing a deep dive on Bowie to celebrate his birthday / death. http://blog.kexp.org/davidbowie/ It was a year ago this week that KEXP both celebrated the birth and then shockingly, mourned the death of David Bowie at the age of 69. With the help of both those who knew him best and the man himself, KEXP will dig deep into his influential catalog of music spanning nearly 50-years. Beginning Sunday, January 8th, on what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday, and culminating Tuesday, January 10th on the one-year anniversary of his passing, KEXP DJs John Richard

Brussels Show Live Stream 27th October
Alone in the Zone replied to 50footqueenie's topic in Just A Fan
The streaming quality is remarkable. Technology continues to blow my mind. At this level of quality, I have to ask: Why doesn't Wilco start streaming all of it shows via the website? We would all watch them, right? -
Solid album. Features Wayne Shorter, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Brian Blade. We reviewed it on a recent podcast: http://www.chunkyglasses.com/content/episode-227-norah-jones-day-breaks

We reviewed the new album on a recent podcast - link below. If you like this album, you will love Phil Cook's Southland Mission from last year. Phil is the bassist for HGM. http://www.chunkyglasses.com/content/episode-225-hiss-golden-messenger-heart-like-a-levee

I said something similar in the podcast (link above). Debatable. I don't think Tweedy could have made Common Sense or Locator. But they could have made many of the other tracks.

Great Television show! They played most of Marquee - the major exception being See No Evil. Also, they have been playing a track from the 1992 album called 1880 Or So that I highly rec absorbing pre-show. There was also a 14 minute jazz freak out that I had never heard before -- maybe it was Persia? Overall band was tight and Verlaine is still the prickly, idiosyncratic God that made Television great. And Bob Boulen from NPR was in the house - he is a fan!

Huh. Stumbled across Solitaire from WTA this morning. I was shocked at how much it sounded like it could be on Schmilco. Perhaps it was a seed of some sort for Jeff. Anyway, interesting listening experiment.

Television! Tonight - 930 Club in DC. At long last....

Sorry for the double post - I have had a media copy for a few weeks. It is definitely an album that takes a while to get your head around. I think I'm ready to rank it in the catalogue (keeping in mind that I love all of these albums): AGIB YHF BT ST MA SBS SW TWL Schmilco WTA AM
