it seems that the only thing that is keeping me sane after knee surgery on thursday is the wilco show in birmingham on wednesday. i know it will be a great show and i am very anxious... haven't seen the band live since the Chastain Park show in the pouring rain back in 07. this will also be my 20th time to see them since 1999... a landmark occasion since this is only the third time since i became a fan in '99 that they've been here (one was a tweedy solo show). as i recover i am dreaming of an 'at least that's what you said' opening to just kick the shit out of everyone from the start... i

you never know - wasn't it written with the 7 worlds thing? don't think a dmb cover is likely... thank God

Hemispheres is a cool title of the record... i was hoping for 'Rock The Kiwi'. Jealous of all those there...

Poor Elton... he has written some great numbers since '76s peak (especially from 92-present) but there is only one song in his set that written after '74.

I still remember the greatest line i ever heard at a wilco show there... after the first few lines of 'passenger side' some guy behind me said "this shit isn't on foxtrot". i think jeff made references to the fans seeing CATS there at some point... it was my first non-general admission wilco show.

Wed Apr 22 '09 (8:00PM) Birmingham, AL Sloss Furnaces Oh gosh the Sloss Furnaces sucks as a venue. I don't know why they wouldn't play the Alabama Theater in Bhm. They played there the night they won the Grammies and then Tweedy played solo there a few years ago. It is a beautiful place with a great sound. Sloss freakin' Furnaces... awful, awful venue. The only benefit is that it will be general admission...

EU is full of starts and stops for me... the title track, I'm Amazed, SFS, and Scream part 2 are my favs and hold up against anything they have recorded, but most of the record just doesn't do it for me. Of the six official releases it is my least fav... It Still Moves and At Dawn are one and two on my list. Live though... they are as strong as ever. Cannot wait for the show in Atl.

Loving this record minus HS. Made a copy for my sister in law who is driving out to Jackson Hole from Birmingham... i told her to just skip that track. Smokin from Shootin --> Touch Me Part 2 is as good Poor Places --> Reservations Sec Walkin, EU, TYT, I'm Amazed, LAY, Lib, and AP are very, very good as well. I was hoping for the strings (like the NPR show) to be included in the opening of title track. I don't know if this record will pass ISM or AD in my rankings... but very good nonetheless... the live record is still what i would recommend to convert someone though.

i'll be on soul seek all night updating itunes now... these songs bring back great memories of high school (90-93) and college (93-97)... wow. there was a cover of a men at work song 'overkill' that i thought was great cicra 95-96... as far as albums go i think i listened to august and everything after about 10k times my frosh year... never got into the Dave Matthews stuff that was super popular. -
can you link or provide info on any of these new tracks jim has performed solo?
-
i have been listening to the mmj npr show for about a week now and i am jacked about the new record. love: evil urges, i'm amazed , and sec walking not so sure about highly suspicious yet... very interesting though and i was singing it today riding around in my car.

Jeff sang it at a dozen or solo shows from 98-00 if my memory serves me correctly. I liked the original YHF demo version much better than the engineer demo version. I listened to Bennett's version once... with Jay's voice it was a difficult listen.

My favorite attended Wilco show before the RIV
bourbonbreath replied to LouisvilleGreg's topic in Just A Fan
I have this show on cd and remember loving it when i first got it due to 'rare' songs being played at this show. As stated earlier the quality isn't great of the recording... and if my memory serves me correctly the version of MLTM is hard to hear with all of the surrounding talking, etc. -
Glad to hear the Total Pros are in the house...
