Sorry, but "the south" doesn't have a monopoly on racism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan_raid_%28Inglewood%29 http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/kkk-recruiting-hamptons-article-1.1915500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Ku_Klux_Klan_in_New_Jersey http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/ideology/ku-klux-klan/active_hate_groups And that's just racist caucasians...

The majority of the racists that I know are from "the north." And California.

I'm all for letting the free market decide which privately owned businesses thrive or perish. If a bakery doesn't want to decorate a same-sex wedding cake, then fine. Boycott them, if you wish. It's not a crime to turn down someone's business at a mom & pop store. I wouldn't expect a Jewish bakery to fulfill an order for swastika-shaped bagels, nor would I expect a halal restaurant to serve me a BLT. The solution to our nation's problems isn't more laws.

It's quite clear that he did. Afghan citizens who came across him that night said that he asked them where he could find the Taliban. Add that to the anti-American and anti-Army e-mails that he sent his parents, the fact that he sent his valuables home, the fact that soldiers in his unit said he'd begun spending more time with Afghans than Americans, his efforts to learn Pashto and you reach an undeniable conclusion: he deserted his comrades during wartime and sought shelter with the enemy. http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2014/06/03/team-leader-bowe-bergdahl-wanted-to-talk-to-taliban/

The Saudis are bombing rebels in Yemen, and United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain appear to be intent on joining in. Egypt and the U.S. are also in the coalition. The rebels are backed by Iran, who are also fighting ISIS in Iraq, while we are doing the same. The situation is getting very complex and confusing and that's exactly what groups like ISIS would like to happen. The possibility of a major flareup or blunder on someone's part is increasing every day.

I'm actually more of a Sharpie guy, but this is a clear-cut case of desertion. After saying that he was ashamed to be an American, denigrating the Army and sending his valuables home to his family, he snuck out at night to seek shelter with the enemy. People died trying to find him and millions of dollars were spent trying to locate and rescue him. In the end, several really bad guys were exchanged so that he could go free. That he deserted is obvious and hopefully he'll spend a few years behind bars for his actions. But when he's finally released, he'll still be alive and able to spend time w

This schmuck deserves a couple of years behind our bars now. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2015/03/25/bowe-bergdahl-once-missing-u-s-soldier-charged-with-desertion/?hpid=z1

Has it been mentioned that they're playing Outside Lands in San Francisco? http://lineup.sfoutsidelands.com/

My friend lived in a Palestinian village for a few years and once told me that the people in the region are always on edge because they consume massive quantities of nicotine and caffeine.

What bands/artist have you seen the most live? How many times?
Hixter replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
If the cutoff is ten or more shows, then I guess it would only be The Who (probably about 15 times in 6 states and 2 countries) and Wilco (about 25 times in 5 states and 6 countries.) I've probably seen Nels Cline in about 75 non-Wilco appearances and Carla Bozulich in about 50 or 60 different shows (many with Nels in the band.) -
Paso Robles would be nice. I lived there in the late 80s while I was stationed at Camp Roberts during my brief, but illustrious, Army career, so it would be a good excuse to fly out and see some old friends and check out the Firestone Walker brewery.

I'm hoping that there will be a showing at this year's Solid Sound. If they were really smart, they'd have it on sale in DVD/Blu-ray format at the festival for $15 and sell a thousand of 'em.

That was a live performance with a band, right? I was just thinking about a straight showing of the new Solid Sound documentary.

I wonder if there will be a screening of the Solid Sound documentary? Seems like a good way to end an evening: watching it on a big screen under the stars.

They have, but the U.S. is in the process of making a deal that would allow Iran to keep most of their capacity and a very short ramp-up time to make a nuclear weapon. The Israelis are understandably uncomfortable with that scenario. Let's not forget that Iran's program was undeclared and hidden for many years, some of their facilities were only uncovered by intelligence agencies and the United States was worried enough that they went to incredible lengths to sabotage the Iranian program. Any hope that the Iranian program is -- or will ever be -- peaceful in nature is a pipe dream. Only a fe

An invasion is out of the question. Most of Iran's facilities are known, although they haven't been forthcoming in naming them and there may be one or two that we don't know about (likely) and/or we haven't told Iran that we know about (very likely.) The biggest problem is that they are buried very deeply. Israel has bunker-busting bombs (some of which we've supplied) and they may have a secret or two up their sleeves, but what they really need are a few of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_Ordnance_Penetrator They can only be delivered by B-2 (Stealth bomber) or B-52. There's no

How much more gratitude and respect do you want? From Netanyahu's address to Congress: Who said anything about invading? Israel has no intention of invading Iran. Any military strike would focus on destroying or degrading Iran's nuclear weapons program. It would be a bomb and missile attack with a handful of special ops guys on the ground to direct it, provide damage assessment, take out a few tricky targets and return to Israel with any evidence and intelligence that they could gather. Then they scamper back to Israel and hope that they've caused enough damage to I) give them a few mo

I'm a procrastinator, but I'm not picky, so I just grabbed a room for $80/night in Wilmington, VT. I've stayed in Bennigton and Brattleboro in the past and I've found the 30-minute drives to be bearable and pleasant as long as it's not nighttime and rainy.

Same here, about 30 years ago. It took me a few years before I realized that Pete was standing on eggs (walking on eggshells?) on the cover and that it was obviously a "Who came first - the chicken or the egg?" reference. I made a point of playing Sheraton Gibson on my first visit (Browns vs. Steelers) to Cleveland last year.

I've had them all for years, so a reissue with no new material doesn't interest me. But the press release did jog my memory and I watched the Deep End Live concert video on YouTube the other day. Today is original drummer Doug Sandom's 85th (!) birthday.

And an equal number of Democrats don't think that Obama is a Christian. So what's the big story here?

So most Democrats don't think Obama is a Christian? Aren't they raking Scott Walker over the coals for saying the same thing?
