  1. I hear Massachusetts is pretty good tax-wise...have you considered relocating there?
  2. Thanks for the info/feedback, guys. I'll probably have to talk my wife into going in a couple hours before the show to "get a good spot." There's no way she would want to hang around for hours and hours if there is something else going on. These will be her first Wilco shows.
  3. How early do you have to go in and wait in front of the stage before the Wilco sets if you want to be up close? And do you miss a lot of performances by the other acts doing so? Seems counter-intuitive to the purpose of the fest if we have to stand around all day to get a good spot...I'm curious, as this will be our first SS.
  4. Oh, cool. I didn't see that part. Hope people enjoy those shows... Been listening to some acoustic Dead from 8/5/70. Has some rarities (Cocaine Blues, Drink Up And Go Home, I Hear A Voice Calling), so I downloaded it. Normally, I eat this stuff up, but this one is pretty boring, mainly because the vocals are badly buried in the mix. Oh well, on to some '73 next, I think.
  5. Got two, too! That was incredibly fast and easy. Very cool.
  6. I saw that announcement somewhere online, and found it kind of underwhelming. I would much rather see a list from the 70s or later. The 60s repertoire was pretty limited in terms of song selection.
  7. Yep, confirmed: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/12/ian-mclagan-1945-2014.html
  8. Just saw this on FB and then checked my email and had a couple messages about it as well. So, looks like SS is about 1/2 the price of Lock'n. SS it is! Will have to meet up with some of you Wilco fanatics...haven't done that since I met suites here in F-L-A about a million years ago...
  9. I have read rumors to that effect, but no official word yet, and the Lock'n lineup page has not been updated. Where did you get that info?
  10. Thanks, guys. It was hard, but today is another day. Grateful we were able to give her a good life. She was a rescue, only had her for a few months.
  11. Thank you. We didn't know anything until today. It would have been a bit selfish to keep her around, and medicated, just to postpone an inevitable death from advanced kidney disease. The vet said we were doing the right thing, but it still felt really bad. Worst of all was seeing how heartbroken my wife is. I felt worse for her than I did for the cat.
  12. Had to have the cat put to sleep today. This is not a good way to start the week.
  13. Here's an interesting take I saw on Facebook. Not as long as the other article.
  14. Yes, I suspect I will not be buying it, unless wifey buys a winning lottery ticket or a long-lost rich great aunt dies.
  15. Well, this isn't going to help the cause: http://www.aol.com/article/2014/11/25/burn-this-bitch-down-michael-browns-stepfather-shown-encouraging-ferguson-riots/20998980/
  16. I guess this is where we post stuff about VU. http://www.mojo4music.com/17746/the-velvet-underground-45th-anniversary-super-deluxe-edition/ Looks like a nice reissue box of my favorite VU record.
  17. I just scanned through several of those eyewitnesses' reports, and three out of the four I looked at corroborated the officer's testimony that Brown was coming toward him when he fired the fatal shots. Dang, that really is one redneck-lookin' cop.
  18. No worries. I'm a 50 y.o. Caucasian...not exactly the demographic that has to worry about being profiled by the cops. I should clarify that those incidents I mentioned occurred when I was around 20, 25 and 40 (but still looking 30), respectively. There does seem to be a certain gravitas that occurs with age, and the natural order of things is that now cops are often much younger than me, and more inclined to call me "sir" than to make snide references to my mother. One thing which is somewhat germane to the conversation (or at least I see it as such) is the increasing militarization of the p
  19. To be honest, my going 10 mph over the speed limit is not justification for the officers being total dicks, screaming at me, calling a public highway "my road," making snide references to my mother as my "mommy," lying about my speed (big difference between 80 and 96), etc. etc. I have never been arrested either, but I would not be surprised if a cop arrested me just because they were a dick. I also am not surprised when I read stories of cops raping and/or murdering innocent people just because they have a gun and think they can get away with it. Cops are people, and people do these things.
  20. Me neither, but that is where I feel I have lived almost my entire life. In fact, I feel that the country has been openly in a police state since the '68 Dem convention in Chicago, but that is sort of another topic.... It's a slow day at work today, so I have some time to expand on some of my encounters with law enforcement in my 50 years on the planet: 1) Pulled over for speeding on a CT highway at about age 20. I was driving 10 mph over the speed limit, which is pretty much par for the course in that part of the country. Cops will pass you on the highway when you're going that speed, but
  21. I have no way of knowing what the percentages are, but I have had many nasty run-ins with very overbearing cops...which is odd, because I am short, slim, and extremely non-threatening in appearance. I can only imagine how these people would behave towards someone who is tall, heavy and black. Personally, I would probably attribute their behavior to things like alcoholism, PTSD, and/or the kind of power trip that I spoke of.
  22. Even I become a right-wing fascist in these types of scenarios. I was taught to say "Yes, sir" and "No, sir" to police officers. Period. In my wildest dreams, I would never do anything threatening toward a police officer (unless, of course, they physically assaulted me, unprovoked). If you attack a police officer, you can expect trouble, and, very possibly, death. Let's face it, a lot of these guys are sociopaths at best: they wield the power, including the gun, and are drunk on it. I'm not saying Brown deserved to die, but he certainly took a risk that goes beyond foolishness and somewhere in
