  1. HungryHippo, May '77 is one of the few things in life that deserve the overused word "epic." Enjoy. I answered my own question above and tried to give 4/25 a listen. (Somehow, I like to go through most of my downloads in chronological order.) Attention all Deadheads: you can probably skip this one. The sound is very muffled for a soundboard. Not sure what happened, but it sounds like someone used noise reduction or something on a recording a couple generations old. It's not a fun listen, although there are surely some good performances (I suffered through the Scarlet > Fire just because
  2. Holy shitballs, this 11/6/77 show smokes. Thanks for the recommendation, gents, as I had never heard this before. Would have made a better release than Dave's 12 for sure! I haven't even gotten to Scarlet > Fire yet and I am psyched. Little to no lyric flubs, energetic playing and vocals, etc. I've downloaded a lot of '77 this year, and still have 7 shows I just haven't gotten to yet. What should I listen to next? 4/25, 4/27, 9/28, 9/29, 10/1, 10/9, or 10/12?
  3. Listening to 10/15/77 today and tonight, per the above recommendation. Great stuff! I also searched for 11/6, and found a copy of it online to download. Surprised I didn't already have it. Looking forward to listening to that next. Thanks for the suggestions, ya'll.
  4. I must have that one at home, will really have to check later. It took place on my birthday, and in Binghamton, where I went to grad school, so it would have interested me just based on those factors alone.
  5. Lot of votes for Fake Fur Coat...including mine. Not even close.
  6. For me, it's Diamond Light. It's challenging and unique..although there is plenty of other great material here.
  7. What's the deal with this new Neil release called Storytone? I am guessing some of you folks already have it.
  8. Wow, that is wild. I figured I'd learned about it through VC originally, but had no idea Jeff was a fan.
  9. Anyone else dig this? I stumbled across them a while back, and every time a tune from their CD pops up on my iTunes, it makes me smile. Reminds me of NRPS, The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, etc. etc.
  10. That is very cool. I highly doubt I would have too many complaints if I got these for free. As it is, I can always find someone to buy them after I upload them to my iTunes...so I'm not angry or upset, just a little disappointed. Thanks for that recommendation, I will check it as well. I might already have it!
  11. I have never seen Furthur but I have seen Ratdog a few times, and this describes my feelings about their shows perfectly.
  12. If I were not already an Anglophile, this would probably be enough to make me one.
  13. Good to know! I recently downloaded 10/15/77 but have not listened to it yet. I will have to console myself with that one...lol. Thanks.
  14. Okay, I'm going to be the first to say it: Dave's Vol. 12 is yet another mediocre release in an ever-increasing series of mediocre releases. It might be the most compelling argument yet against putting out full shows. Don't get me wrong, there are some great highlights. Jerry shreds like crazy at the end of a very good version of Let It Grow, an early highlight. And the Playin' > Eyes is decent, too, although the Eyes is way too fast for my taste. On disc 3 - the "filler" disc - there is also a decent Scarlet > Fire, very nice to have, as are most any '77 Scarlet > Fire combos,
  15. It makes me wonder whether they are listening to the recordings and making decisions based on some sort of quality control factor. What seems like a perfect show to excited fans in the audience might actually be a show where someone blew a lyric, hit a bad note, etc. That alone might be enough to make the call. I kind of doubt it's just random, or based on economics, but who knows.
  16. For recent releases that are in a somewhat classic mode, check out Joey DeFrancesco and 3oisty. Also, there are still some classic artists recording new music: Bobby Hutcherson put out a CD this year (Joey DeFrancesco is also featured on that).
  17. http://www.npr.org/2014/11/03/357428287/tom-magliozzi-popular-co-host-of-nprs-car-talk-dies-at-77 Some of you NPR fans will no doubt be familiar with this guy. Now I understand why they stopped doing the show a couple years ago.
  18. Got mine this weekend as well. Been listening to bits and pieces in the car. Hope discs 2 & 3 are significantly better than disc one, which will not likely be getting much future play. Looking forward to the Playing > Eyes, Scarlet > Fire and Terrapin.
  19. Welcome to VC, Terp02. Those great Wilco shows will eventually have you coming here and reading setlists and reviews like the rest of us, wanting to live vicariously through the lucky souls who were there. Those are some really stellar looking setlists, too. Props to the band for knocking it out of the park again. Looking forward to Solid Sound next year, as I have not had a chance to see Jeff and the boys for a couple years now.
  20. Yeah, I figured we would do either an airbnb deal or a hotel that is about 20-30 minutes away. Living in Florida, that's nothing to me. I know it seems like a lot in New England, I'm from there.
  21. Anyone here have even the faintest idea when tickets will go on sale for SS 2015? Can past sale times be a good predictor for this next year's? My wife and I are planning to attend for the first time...would like to map it all out, maybe meet up with some VC'ers at the shows, etc. I am on the email list, but have received exactly squat as far as info goes....
  22. You bet! It was kind of hard to find the announcement at first, because you have to go through the "Almanac" part of the menu to find it, so I figured I'd let people on here know. The "limited release" number has been boosted to 16,500 this time.
