  1. I love Desolation Row, but that's not exactly my favorite part. I'm not too crazy about the Cinderella verse either. I wouldn't call it a terrible lyric. It's a great song with a few weak lyric spots. One of my top ten Dylan songs.
  2. "Yes, I received your letter yesterday About the time the doorknob broke" "Walk upside-down inside handcuffs Kick my legs to crash it off" "The judge, he holds a grudge He’s gonna call on you But he’s badly built And he walks on stilts Watch out he don’t fall on you" For the greatest songwriter of his generation, Dylan has his share of "clunker" lines.
  3. CRB has listed some upcoming tour dates. They will be back in Tampa in April, and I'm getting my ticket this Friday morning when they go on sale. They're playing at a little club in Ybor where I saw Warren Zevon back in the 90s. http://chrisrobinsonbrotherhood.com/ Good thing there is some new music I can check out live and enjoy!
  4. Some comments from Bruce Cockburn: "The last time I saw Pete Seeger was in December of 2012, when we both performed in New York at a benefit in aid of freeing US political prisoner Leonard Peltier. Although age had affected his voice, he was a fountain of good energy, as he had been all his life. The first time I heard of Pete was when my Grade 3 teacher held him up as a heroic example of moral courage, following his refusal to testify before McCarthy's House UnAmerican Activities Committee. In between, he was an inspiring element of the folk music scene, and a model of how to be a responsib
  5. Spoiler #2: the speech will end with, "Thank you. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America."
  6. I didn't watch it, but I am sorry that Jeff didn't win. On the other hand, I was pleased to note that that douche rocket Kanye didn't win, either. Ha!
  7. That place is going to be rocking, and the hometown fans should go nuts over lesser-known songs like Sleeping With the Television On, Souvenir, and so on. Have a great time!
  8. Good read. I am psyched to see CRB continuing, and really looking forward to some new music from them!
  9. Very good time last night. This reviewer does just as good a job as I could, or better, reporting on the show: http://tbo.com/events/fans-revel-in-rare-chance-to-see-billy-joel-in-concert-20140117/
  10. If it's going to be the general public, I would go with tunes that rock but are fairly simple and easy to get into on the first listen. Cali Stars Jesus etc. Dawned on Me Via Chicago Passenger Side Red-eyed> I Got You
  11. How about bringing this guy back? I guess it all depends on the purpose of this thread. Scrolling back through recent pages, I see a lot of folks posting about who they are going to see, who they like, some follow up comments from others saying that they went to that show, too...liked it, didn't like it, etc. Now, I am not about to read through 60+ pages, but going back to October, that's about all I see. I don't really see a whole lot of people mentioning how much they hate the artist being discussed, and so on. You go to way more shows than I do, and obviously, you're passionate about mu
  12. Well, you asked if he was obscure. I would say, yeah, relatively obscure, compared to, say, Bily Joel.
  13. What I don't understand is why you are so compelled to comment about it. I'm going to have a great time, whether you like him or not. Sure, I'll use the execrable "We Didn't Start the Fire" as a piss break, but that doesn't mean it won't be an otherwise good show.
  14. Yeah, I was completely wrong when I said it was a tempest in a teapot or whatever I said. It seems like it was a really crappy thing to do, and he's got a real dilemma: he looks incompetent if he truly did not know what pretty much every one of his closest aides knew, or what they were doing. And if it's demonstrated somehow that he did know, he's toast.
  15. Blackout, heatwave, .44 caliber homicide The bums drop dead and dogs go mad In packs on the West Side Young girl standing on a ledge looks like another suicide She wants to hit those bricks 'Cause the news at six gotta stick to a deadline While the millionaires hide in Beekman Place The bag ladies throw their bones in my face I get attacked by a kid with stereo sound I don't want to hear it but he won't turn it down Life is tough but it's just enough To hold back the tears until it's closing time I survived, I'm still alive But I'm getting close to the borderline Pretty good, if you ask me
  16. He's not exactly a household name. You need to talk to normal people a little more often. Not everyone in the world is a music fanatic like us.
  17. Yeah, we all know the Dead suck. Anyone who has ever made a lot of money in music sucks.
  18. Not all of us can be cool enough to give a shit about obscure people like Lee Ranaldo.
  19. Hoping for Miami 2017 and maybe Laura. If he plays Captain Jack (unlikely) or Close to the Borderline (even more unlikely), my night will be made.
  20. Gonna get my schlock on and see Billy Joel.
  21. We want our country back! In the dystopia of Obama's America, innocent people are...uh, issued written warnings by law enforcement.
  22. I know, it was just kind of funny how melodramatic the guy was about it, after the fact. All he got was a warning, but he's talking in this awed way, like, "How could this happen in America?" Uh, trying driving while black sometime, buddy. Thing is, I can understand how the officer (who was, admittedly, an asshole) was somewhat suspicious. The wife really didn't help when she said she didn't know where the gun was. And it was a fairly good possibility that the guy was a dangerous gun owner. People from Florida have a history of "standing their ground" and shooting folks who are only armed wi
  23. Boy, has this old boy been sheltered, or what? He thinks the guy wants to take his wife and children away and put him in jail? Where does he get all that? He was given a written warning, not even a ticket. Talk about a crybaby. I have had more than one real cop get all up in my business before, and I know it's no fun. One time, it was a speeding ticket. I got out of the car to object, after he had already started walking back to his patrol car. I did not realize how jumpy cops can be until he started pulling his weapon out and screaming, Get the fuck off my highway! Get the fuck back in your
  24. She was great on the flute in One Night In Paris.
