  1. I'll also guess 3.

I figure it leaked and some people probably won't buy it.

Since I don't typically care about album sales, are iTunes sales taken into account?

    Kristofor

PS I remember Prince did something cool in 2004, where everyone that bought tickets to his show got a copy of his new album when they showed up to the show. It kept him on Billboard for a long time. Well, for as long as he was on tour.

  2. It got me to thinking- How many pictures of the band has there been in liner notes?

I only recall Sky Blue Sky and the back of Summerteeth. I forget since we live in the iPod age. Haven't looked at liner notes for awhile.

PS Just thinking about all the people who don't know Wilco out there and if that's their first impression I wonder what they thought.

I don't know what I'd think. I think I would have loved the costumes and would have been intrigued to check them out. Though I'm not sure if the nudie suits would overpower the music?

  3. Hey,

This is too bad, but at least she isn't suffering anymore.

Earlier in June I saw her on Comedy Central's Roast to William Shatner. I don't know how old that special was but she looked to be doing fairly well.

I guess I can check IMDB.

Edit: That was done all the way back in 2006.

  4. Interestingly, I think Jeff looks younger when he has/had shorter hair. Especially around 02/03...that German Festival show is a good example.

The long hair makes him look a bit older. Not sure why.

PS Would you pay to see a puppet show performed by Jeff?!

  5. Elton John - Goodbye from Madman Across The Water

    John Lennon - Love

Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed

Pearl Jam - Man Of The Hour

James Ingram & Linda Ronstadt - Somewhere Out There

Michael McDonald & Patti LaBelle - On My Own

The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

    R.E.M. - The Great Beyond

    Wilco - Everlasting

    U2 - The First Time

And I've always had this fantasy that some beautiful, tearful woman would insist on "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" by Gladys Knight.

But who would that woman be?

    ;)

  6. frankensteinslab.jpg

    Would that be considered experimental?

    LOL

I agree that experimentation is more about technique.

And in the end it's all about the songs.

I'm lucky to have liked everything Wilco has put out. It's not that I don't have standards, it's that everything has eventually grown on me either through the album versions or live.

  7. It would be great if they did a mini tour where they just went on stage for 2 hours and just played music like in the Book cd. I remember someone in the band mentioning discussing a tour like that. It certainly would mix things up somewhere down the road.

    Kristofor

Edit: Or for the next Residency have one night's 2nd set be strictly like mentioned above.

  8. Hey,

Yeah, I think I hear a little bit of what everyone has said and than some. Panthers didn't even cross my mind until someone just mentioned it. The intro to Unlikely Japan reminds me of Deeper Down's intro.

But it still is unlike anything they've done. I like that notion.

Would you pay for a box set of such stuff? I think it would be an interesting idea if such material popped up on the official site and was offered like The Jolly Banker. But with a different charity for donations. I know sometimes they've given away tracks like Cars Can't Escape. I'm not sure how well a Wilco box set would do in record stores. Maybe sold exclusively through the official store? And ultimately it may be too early in their career, but I don't think I'd like to wait until I'm old and gray.

    Thoughts?

    Kristofor

PS It makes me wish that we'd get more "singles" to just get these B-sides. My dream idea would be to release a box set with singles for each & every song with artwork done by different artists and one b-side to go with track A. It does sound rather huge and unobtainable, but I think to me every Wilco song paints a picture in my head and this would be a nice collection to obviously have. Saying that I guess I wouldn't complain if we get remastered albums with bonus tracks in a few years. Oh well time will tell.

Edit: I guess maybe at some point someone might want to try a "survey" on here to see what the fans' opinions are on boxset vs. remastered albums w/bonus vs. official site/free download or donation.

  9. Thanks for putting this up here tonight!

    Kristofor

PS If anyone wants a link in the next couple of hours while I watch a movie in my room PM me...i'll hear it "ding".

Edit: OK...bed time...hope those of you that got it enjoyed it.

  10. 1190272124.jpg

    WOW!!

Simply breathtaking. Why can't this be on a cd single?!

How does it sound? It fits in nicely with A Ghost Is Born and the Wilco Book cd. Very 70s sounding..has a T-Rex (Cosmic Dancer) feel to it in certain sounds that weren't typical for Wilco to use. Similar in acoustic sound to Muzzle Of Bees and Company In My Back and electronic stuff added in a la Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. There's even an interesting "ending" that sounds like Bull Black Nova's intro. I use quotes because it's like a fake out ending and turns into Jeff singing "Impossible Germany, Unlikely Japan" that turns into an electronic voice.

Vocals: Very nice and "hushed". Not sure if backing vox is Jeff or John. Can't tell.

Lyrics: Since I don't have Adult Head, I can't say if it's word for word from poem of same name. But there are of course similar lines to Impossible Germany.

Specific word that stuck out like a sore thumb "PEACH/ES" ? couldn't make out that whole line at all? Anyone with the book want to help out?

Duration: About 5 minutes. Zipped by though. Definitely has that typical Wilco feeling that you need more than a dozen listens to grasp all the intricacies.

    Kristofor

PS Definitely needs to get put on the internet for download. I don't have the means to do so.

  11. Hey Folks,

I just picked up the 7 Inch single at Bull Moose Records in Salem, NH...they had 4 copies left.

About to eat than put it on to find out what Unlikely Japan sounds like.

    Kristofor

  12. Hey Todd,

Well that throws a wrench into the system.

When in doubt call the place. They should know what's going on.

You can take the "i'm confused as to the doors opening time"... or "the I really want to see the opening act when will he/she/they be on ... at 8 or later...?"

The best they can do is probably say "well, the opener goes on at 9 and after that we don't know, but the curfew is at blah blah blah."

    Kristofor

  13. I heard You Never Know at a local steakhouse establishment known as T-Bones. I assume that they use satellite radio.

In the same town, down the road, at the local Burger King they played Impossible Germany as soon as I walked in. Pretty weird.

I told the girl behind the counter "Wow, Burger King is playing my favorite band." To which she looked at the giant menu behind her and looked back at me with a deer in headlights look. :huh

    Kristofor

PS I forgot to reveal my location...ha....Hudson, NH.

  14. Hey Todd,

I know through Wilcobase that Wilco came out at 9pm until 11 for the Cincinnati show on Friday.

Not too sure about the Oklahoma City show last night.

Assuming the venue for Pomona is indoors than I think it will be 9pm give or take a few minutes.

If there's no curfew, than expect a later show than 11.

For me, I'm seeing them at a minor league baseball park which is a different thing altogether.

Opening act goes on at 7pm. Wilco should be on around 8 until 10 due to it being open air and there's specific curfews for those types of venues. Tanglewood last summer was the same way, show was rather early at 8 until 10.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

PS Though I could be wrong. :)

Edit: A gentleman by the name of Jonathan Wilson is the opener for Wilco. According to Wilcoworld.net.

  15. Hey Keith,

I think your photos look really great. Coming from a film background, I really like what you got. The shot composition and lighting looks great.

One question: I'm assuming you get the sepia tone from whatever you use to put those pics online. I guess feel free to post what type of camera you used etc.

    Kristofor

PS Ok, I looked at all the pics and noticed the nice mix of color, b & w and the really nice sepia tone. It's definitely something I admire to see especially considering that you're doing this at a concert and the shots look nice and steady and not rushed. I also love Charles' work too.

On a quick side note: when I film my friend's band, I switch the setting to Black & White and it looks really amazing. I dislike my color on my 3 year old Sony Handycam. Time to upgrade to something more vibrant.

  16. Negative to Lowell tickets.

It sucks in the sense that I can't collect my money from friends until I give them tickets in return. Oh well.

But aren't they supposed to be "Collectible Tickets"? I assume they're going to look like baseball game tickets. Maybe that's the hold up. :hmm

    Kristofor

PS A friend of mine just got a job in the marketing department at LeLacheur Park for the Lowell Spinners. I should ask her if she knows anything related to the show. Maybe she'll get some free tickets. Maybe not.

  17. Hey Folks,

The Official Bonnaroo page has Blogs and Tweets and other such stuff to keep people up to date.

    From the site:

    Wilco at Sunset

    (06/14/09 01:57 AM)

Wilco returned to Bonnaroo with a masterful set on the What Stage, playing favorites like "California Stars" and "Handshake Drugs" along with a few songs from the new "Wilco (The Album)," which comes out at the end of this month

    Enjoy,

PS Really wished the Wilco set was broadcast over the net.

  18. Wilco was great, but perhaps the best part was dealing with the sitters. In the Loge, 3rd row I made up my mind that i wouldn't be swayed to sit by obnoxious "fans." Of course the biggest ass sits right behind me. He told me that i wasn't at a van halen concert and demanded i take a seat during the first song. I would have no part of it, stood my ground. Unless you play drums, keyboard, or have two broken legs i would suggest you not sit. These are rock concerts, not plays. I will not have some first timer tell me how to behave at a wilco concert. ha ha ha

Wow, that sucks and would probably ruin my experience. It'd be tough to enjoy myself knowing that there's a "concert ethics cop" behind me.

The 2 worst experiences I had were at the same venue: Agganis Arena at BU. 1. Pixies in 05- This couple gets in front of me and my friend. We're in the front row of the 2nd second floor section. So these people obviously aren't in their seats. I try tapping the girl's shoulder first since she was in front of me. Nothing. Than I look for the staff to help out or at least do a nod to this not-in-their-seat-couple. More tapping. I try speaking but it's too loud. So I start blowing at the back of her head. Well, this she felt since she spun around like the devil and threw her $5.00 water at me. So of course at this point the security comes over and she starts yelling at him about me and he starts to say, "come with me." To which I try to tell him, "check my tickets and than check theirs...we're in the 1st row of this section..." So finally he notices that they're in the wrong and than he takes them away. It was a total deliberate invasion of space. She was in a position much like one's girlfriend would be. Her ass was in my crotch when she danced. Normally I guess I wouldn't mind given the situation but there wasn't even a foot between us and she was there with her boyfriend. :pirate I couldn't move and the PIxies already played Subbacultcha, so that ruled out any fantasy that would have manifested. :lol

    2. Duran Duran 08 - I get to the venue late due to a subway accident. So I finally get to my seat 3 songs in and these 2 obnoxious mid 30 year old women start screaming at me that I'm "not in the right seat...this is our seat...get the fuck out of here...obvously not 'spose' to be here..." I try to explain to them that I have the aisle seat and show them my ticket. They avoid me but somehow manage to tell me "they're gonna go get the cops" and at the same time one of them is gone to go get security. So I just said fuck off and watched the show from the concession area. I was so pissed. If I had a view, I'd kill. :realmad

Good luck to people seeing shows this summer,

    Kristofor

PS I should point out that I'm a fairly big guy...6'4'' 280lbs. I guess I look like someone who won't snap at someone? But than again showing up to Duran Duran by yourself. :dontgetit

  19. Hey Thanks,

It's pretty good. It reminds me a bit of that Zoo TV Special in 1992 where this girl shows up in Adam's hotel room and she's breathing heavy.

Of course, Bono isn't breathing heavy but he's being Bono and giving The Edge a hard time. Or so it looks.

    Kristofor

PS Yeah, there's a bunch of clips dating back to 05 for this set.
