  1. :thumbup Nice Cover!

There seems to be a recent trend with having animals on the covers.

    MA 2: that cat

AGIB: an egg presumably from a chicken

    SBS: a flock of birds

    W(TA): a camel

Does anyone fear a lawsuit in 8 years where all these animals come together to sue for royalties?

We'd like to call to the stand the creepy Summerteeth guy?

    These Marina Towers don't talk.

PS Who's hand is that on Being There ?

  2. (Maybe Jim actually took my advice.)

Wow, talk about being delusional. This is one of the first Pitchfork reviews I've read in full. This guy sounds like he seriously thinks that musicians actually take what he says into thought on their next album. He really seems like he thinks he's as powerful on a level as a Fox News or CNN. :stunned

I used to be a movie snob somewhat. I went through a period where I hated everything that I saw. About 3 years or so ago, I lightened up. I tend to avoid any movie reviews nowadays. I've spent enough time on this planet to know what I should tend to see and what I should run away from (miley cyrus).

Music is a bit of a different thing altogether. I tend to rely on friends and friends of friends to hear about new bands or older artists I may have missed while bingeing on The Clash. Yeah, some of those friends may be influenced by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and whatever publication shapes minds. But like a few of you, I get angry when people jump off the bandwagon of any band almost as if it has a 2 year period where it's cool. We tend to live in a very fickle environment where American Idol is one of the top rated shows. (spending some minutes to think of what to say next)...

I respect you if you like what you like. At least you have some emotional connection with any art than I can respect you. We may disagree on bands, movies, etc but somewhere we're all kind of the same with our own arsenal of such art forms.

I guess I get upset when people treat things as throw away items. As if that's the way they were brought up, music and movies are no different to them than getting an ice cream sandwhich. Which in some cases that's all that some "bands"and "singers" are to music execs. But if you bring young people up on shit movies and music than you kind of need a big brother or big sister to lead them in a way. While I think Pitchfork may be a somewhat good alternative, it may lead some of these types of folk to band jump by following everything that Pitchfork seems to write about. I don't know. But from working at a movie theater in the past, I can definitely say that 90% of the customers were between 12-20ish.

PS Too busy with grad school papers to fully flesh out my thoughts. That's all I got for now.

Edit: I should point out that a very close friend of mine turned me onto Wilco in 2002/03. I still don't know where he found or heard about them. Ok, he told me Rolling Stone.

  4. Hey,

I myself like Sir Stewart and Speed Racer have driven like a madman to this song. I don't know what it is about it, but I'm guessing if my car flips over and the rescue team comes over the song will still be in the awesome guitar solo part.

I also noticed someone saying that their favorite versions are from 12/6 and 12/7 of 2002. I haven't heard those yet, but if H

  5. Hey All,

Well, I feel bad for Jay Bennett. I've read about his recent health issues. But this lawsuit doesn't make much sense. I know from being an extra in 2 motion pictures (in order to be paid you need sign an agreement form to provide your services to be shown even as a background extra) and doing some college films that getting/obtaining permission is something I'm pretty sure Sam Jones and Trixiefilms got from Jay Bennett. I mean he was being filmed for a documentary. Otherwise, if this was an issue back than we probably wouldn't have seen IATTBYH. Furthermore, this seems like an obvious attack on Jeff and not on Wilco's manager who is not mentioned and who I'm pretty sure is well aware of all of Wilco's business handling. I have no idea though if Bennett wasn't paid his royalties. Nor is this my business to know that. I'm just putting in my .02 cents because the headline makes it out like he's after Tweedy and not Wilco's management and/or Sam Jones and Trixiefilms. You can almost say he's making Jeff seem bigger than Tony M. and Sam Jones.

  6. Onan,

Your post made me laugh. It also gave me an idea. A Scavenger Hunt for the new Wilco record.

It sounds silly, but if it were to be done in the big cities or even in smaller college towns it'd get word out from us the fans that a new Wilco album is about to come out.

I'd even say that there'd be some sort of fee to play to be donated to a charity of choice. It'd be fun and a nice way to experience your city/town with fellow Wilco fans. Though I don't think viral marketing and Wilco go together, I think it'd be a nice idea...maybe obnoxious but it's better than having it leak onto your computer. Maybe it ties in nicely with what we think is the message of the album or have heard the band talk about America.

    Kristofor

PS I haven't really thought it through though when that person finds the album. Do they get to share it? I don't know.

  7. Yes, there were a few songs that leaked last time before the official stream from Wilcoworld. I think they first appeared on a blog. The stream followed in short order.

    Thanks Preferred B. :thumbup

    Kristofor

PS Not that it matters now, but does anyone recall the blog site? If someone remembers, maybe we should check that every so often.

  8. Hey All,

Quick question that popped into my head when thinking about a leak.

Do any of you recall there being a 3 song sample going around for Sky Blue Sky before the leak?

Sorry, if this was mentioned. I remember having 3 songs to play from the album for awhile before anything leaked officially through Wilcoworld.net.

I think it was Either Way, You Are My Face, and Walken.

    Kristofor

PS It may have been from a radio station most likely.

  9. I mean I am very careful with that word and only use it to describe U2 albums :cheekkiss

    LOL.

I was coming here to see if there was any new news on the board. A lot of this talk reminds me of another type of phenomena: trying to get someone to watch a particular show you like and they won't do it at all. The same can be said for any band you can pull out of your head. But anyways, I have friends of mine who love Seinfeld religiously and they will not watch Curb Your Enthusiasm even if I lent them a DVD for over a year. Not sure if it's because they didn't feel like they discovered it so they tend to avoid it. Another friend refuses to watch Mr. Show even though he likes similar humor.

I wish there were certain albums in my collection, but finances can prevent every single album I'd like to have from coming into my possession. Time is also a big factor. I think I like having a certain amount of bands I love and buy music from and see shows. Than I'll seek out about 15-20% music that I have no idea about.

I am excited for the record and can understand why some people may feel differently. I like the live stuff I have heard. I can't wait to see how the Tweedy solo songs translate with the whole band. It is a bit upsetting that I have heard all but 2 songs from the new record, even if they were live works in progress. It's my fault but I have a good feeling that it will turn out great.

    Kristofor

PS Is there any room on the "I Dislike Leave Me Like You Found Me" train? I can't even think of a 2nd to last least favorite?

  10. :thumbup

Wow, I come on here for the first time today and the first place I clicked I noticed an old post of mine being used to help out some folks out with the bonus downloads.

I hope people are lucky with them.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  11. Hey All,

So I was reading for one of my classes with the television on and Carson Daly came on. He interviewed these 2 guys who run a restaurant called Animal I think out in LA. Anyways, throughout this whole segment Wilco's music was used. Not sure what Wilco has to do with making Lamb Neck besides Blood Of The Lamb.

The songs that were used were: Can't Stand It, At Least That's What You Said, Pot Kettle Black, Muzzle Of Bees, ELT, and Side With The Seeds.

Not groundbreaking news at all but pretty strange and cool that 6 songs were used.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

PS I think there's a small chance that Carson may have Wilco on his show at some point soon. He had Chris Cornell on for the whole 30 minute segment a month ago. Would love to see Wilco do something similar.

  12. Hey Everyone,

Well, I slept on something that occurred to me last night about the interviews. It stemmed from popping in a Lost bonus disc. Sunday nights are pretty boring, so pretty much anything can go into the player. Anyways, I watched a little bonus feature about The Guns On Lost. And you know what it made sense. It made sense because the documentary film crew must have been feeding the actor's about who had what gun and so on. So me as a viewer understood where a gun that showed up in Season 1 wound up in Season 4. But because of this it felt kind of manufactured and phony, even it if was sarcastic.

So the point I am about to make is something someone mentioned that crossed my mind. I think the directors didn't ask the band any questions that they wanted to craft into a particular story. They just kind of wound up with whatever interview footage they got and that was it. Organic. Otherwise, it may have sounded too scripted. While some us have may have liked the prodding approach, I kind of think we're better off with what we have in our hands.

    Kristofor

  13. Hey,

Quick thought that I forgot to mention. Did anyone like the fact that Canty & Green shook up the songs enough so that we didn't know what was coming?

I mean, I know we have the songs in front of us. But it was nice to hear certain songs separated from where they usually are in concert.

I feel bad for those few people who are casual Wilco fans and who don't know about VC or a typical setlist. So after this dvd convinces those people to check out Wilco live, how many of them will head for the doors once War On War finishes thinking that that's the last song? Ha. Or thinks that Tweedy was pissed in Alabama and left after doing just Impossible Germany. :stunned

I'm sure we have our stories about having those old official concert videos that are excerpts of a complete show. As a young boy around 13, I remember thinking it was odd that U2's Under A Blood Red Sky video had only like 10 songs and began with relative unknown Surrender.

    Kristofor

  14. !goose!,

I guess I did, since I skipped over the interview portions the second time around.

That's pretty much what's different about the extras - just a simple black fade for a second.

But to answer your question more seriously. I'm not sure. I think both groups of songs are tough to pick which I enjoyed better.

But I did like not having to worry about pushing the menu button. :thumbup

  15. Hey Everyone,

Well, I love the DVD. But I do share some critiques that people have bravely shared with us. I do feel that they could have went further with their theme and it sort of went away. As someone who has tried to document his friend's musical career, I realize the difficulty of actually presenting something to be seen and/or consumed.

I'll talk about this really quick. I got my degree in film and had a documentary class. I decided to interview my musician friend and film him live which I had been doing for awhile. Well long story short the documentary is pretty rough. This was due to me not fleshing out the questions enough and not getting enough interview footage. So it became 95% performance footage and a few sound bites here and there. So it's not really a documentary and not fully a performance video.

I get the feeling that maybe Canty & Green wound up with little interview footage. Or they were so wrapped up in making sure they filmed the performances that they spent less time interviewing the band. I probably should read the interview that was done with Canty & Rock and Roll Ghost. Sorry don't recall your VC name. But it looks like that the documentary crew was there waiting for the band to show up and we see the tour bus pull up a few times. But than there's footage from the tour bus. I don't know. I will say that I am pleased that there isn't any sound bites or cross cutting over performance footage. I'll admit the 2nd time I watched it, I skipped over the interview stuff.

Overall, I do feel that something special could have been brought forth from more digging into their theme. But I still think the performances are amazing, even if the editing is off as someone stated on here earlier. Although, their editing and the performance of Via Chicago, I think, is the single best synthesis of this whole DVD. I do think that they got lucky with their coverage with that song so they were able to use great angles and shots. I feel bad criticizing their work, but that's what happens when it becomes everyone's from now on.

Once again I know we are all grateful to have such an official item to play as/when we choose. And the band being beyond generous for the special bonus downloads. I guess we're left to play this disc how we choose to as well.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

PS The sound is fucking amazing too.

PPS Also, I have a film school buddy/Wilco fan who almost got to work on the sound aspect of this DVD last August in LA. He didn't get the gig.

  16. Hey nalafej,

I think this is originally one of those big gimmicks to bring in local people to see the minor league ball club. I paid 4 dollars for nice standing room only "seats" last summer and heard about this bbq. It turns out of course once you get there you need to pay one lump sum to get food at the bbq. Not too surprised they're keeping this for Wilco.

An interesting thing about LeLachuer Park is this. Way back in September when I started grad classes at UMass Lowell, the first night we had the windows open and you could hear the ball players names being read over the PA which must've carried over the river. We also could clearly hear the crowd. So if anyone gets shut out of this show, find me and I'll sneak you into UMass Lowell.

I also went there after class Friday night (yeah, it was a make up class..thankfully normally no classes on that night). I was not too surprised to see no mention of Wilco anywhere. I noticed a new parking garage (for UML students & most likely parking for Spinners) that should be empty come July.

I'll post some alternate routes, bars, etc. as the time gets closer for the show.

Speaking of which who's going to Lowell? Anyone holding off until a possible Boston show?

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  17. Hey Everyone,

Yeah, I popped in my DVD and now there was wording after you click on Bonus Material. Than it brought me to Roadcase. I signed up real quick.

Got an email. Confirmed my subscription. Than dropped down Ashes Bonus Content and than the DC show. So after 2 minutes I realized that those 2 white wordings Ashes and DC were actually hyperlinks which began downloading as soon as I clicked them.

    Hope this helps,

    Kristofor

PS So awesome! Can't wait to listen to these! :worship

  18. Hello Everyone,

Well, I only saw the option for the Ashes Bonus content when I went to signup on the roadcase page. It said it was the 20 songs from the DVD. No mention of DC show. I didn't sign up though because I'm already a member(plus I only have 1 working email address) for the Roadcase section and I expect to see the DC show on the drop down menu along with AGIB extras, Sunken Treasure DVD extras, etc. I'll just wait until the link works through the DVD. Do we know which show it is yet?
