  1. Thanks Analogman,

It felt like the U2 hype machine lost steam once they finished up Letterman and did their 3 city stint in March.

I imagine them showing up to the first show after sipping Iced Tea on the beaches of Malibu.

But it looks like they have been rehearsing. Although, these clips could be a little longer.

I think Bono's idea of taking over 2009 hasn't happened yet at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing them in September at Foxboro, MA, but I'm in no rush either. Don't want to rush my summer to see them.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

PS I'll either be excited or a little bit upset when I see the setlist on opening night.

  2. Hey,

I was at the T-Bones Steakhouse in Hudson, NH and before my friend and I left we heard You Never Know. Definitely satellite radio.

It was still a shock to hear that song now considering the album isn't out till the end of the month. I realize it's on such a place(satellite radio), but it's still odd to hear Wilco out and about. Actually, when I was in Burger King in the same town in April I heard Impossible Germany.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  3. Here it is

    Impossible Germany - Montreal, July 10th 2006

    cheers,

    Pete

    Thanks for this Pete!!

    :stunned

Can't wait to hear this right now. Intrigued at how it's going to sound. I forgot how they come back in from the solo.

    Kristofor

Edit: Wow, this is awesome to have again. Definitely a version to put on and trick fellow Wilco fans.

  4. Hey,

I am going to post 5 live tracks here. I hope we get the Impossible Germany version that we've discussed on here.

1st one is the 2nd live performance of Shake It Off from Chicago 11-24-06. My first Wilco show in Chicago. I'm still a big fan of the song when it's done live.

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/jpldiw

Also, from that same show is What Light which I believe was sung in a lower key.

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/ywiady

Another song from that show is Let's Not Get Carried Away. Definitely miss that song. 2nd to last performance.

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/lcqcyd

The first live performance of Side With The Seeds from Chicago 11-25-06. I was also lucky enough to be at this show.

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/a0q4y2

Lastly, from the Pines Theater in 2006 - Let's Fight. I consider myself damn lucky to have heard this. 2nd performance of 3. Wonder if this will ever show up in some form.

Enjoy these. I'm sure most have these, but if you don't than cheers. VC is back.

  5. I have an mp3 of it at Montreal, July 10th 2006 with a verse after the solo.

    Pete

    Hey akapd,

Can you post that here for us?

    It'd be greatly appreciated!

I may find and post an early version of What Light or Walken on here to return the love.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  6. Actually, the first live performance of it has the solo placed as it appears on the record (2006.06.28 MacEwan Hall, Calgary). They tinkered with it about pretty soon after, if I remember correctly, but I can't find any hard evidence for that. The next time I have them playing it, at Summerfest (2006.07.05) it's still in its studio location so I'm wagering it was shifted in between those two shows.

For what it's worth, Nels' solo on that first performance is still my favorite solo of his.

    Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I saw them at the Pines Theater on July 16,2006 and I listened to that on my computer after I posted and the solo is the same as the studio recording.

Hmm...my 1st iPod should have the 1st live performance or rather the one with the solo in the middle. But it hasn't been working for awhile.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  7. Hey,

    That reminds me.

Does anyone have a quick link to the 1st ever live performance of Impossible Germany when the guitar solo was in the middle and than the last verse comes in?

I had it on my iTunes but I deleted it without knowing what significance it had.

I'll check WIlcobase than Owl & Bear.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  8. Hey Folks,

Wow, this is very exciting!! I was always fascinated with how this would have sounded in the Summerteeth era. It's a shame it didn't end up on the leaked demos.

So I wonder if this song sounds like the Wilco Book tracks? Weren't some of the songs like What Good Am I and This Is New from Adult Head? Can't place when those recordings were done. 2003-2005?

Also, the fact that it was recorded during 2003 makes me wonder how many other tracks we'll get to eventually hear. Wait...ok I assume these were the A Ghost Is Born sessions?

It's nice to be getting some good b-sides once again.

    2 weeks to find out.

    Kristofor

  9. Hey Paul,

Thanks for all of your show reports!! :thumbup

I was afraid (no not in a horror movie type of way) that it'd be a bit tough or get a show report a day late or nothing at all.

But this has been fun and exciting to see how things are going on the road for the new album.

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  10. Hey, (ok 2nd time to try and post this for you...VC has been having its problems..next time I should copy my text before posting)....

    OK

I know that Calexico helped out on the horns in 05. Not sure which show it is, but I know that I have it on one of my bootleg shows. I think somewhere in the Southwest?

2nd, in 06 at Brown University Wilco brought on stage 3 students who played horns on a couple of songs and than took them to NY/NJ for the next few nights.

3rd, the Winter Residency in 08 brought about the Total Pros. Although, I think they may have done something prior to that.

So on the Winter/Spring/Summer tour Wilco toured with the Total Pros..not really sure if they did every show, but I know they were at Tanglewood in August.

I think it's possible that they could come again at some point maybe at a gig that is close to where they reside. But I also think been there done that. Maybe something else will accompany Wilco this time around.

So I would go to your shows with the expectations that "ehh...I doubt the Total Pros will show up...but if they do it'll be a surprise". Maybe in a couple of years. I assume the band wants to play as a 6 piece and when the time is necessary than they'll bring back Total Pros or Kenny G.

    :D

    Thanks,

    Kristofor

  11. Sad and shocking news. Bizarre for me since my friend made me a DVD of Wilco from 5-23-95. Which he gave me Saturday the 23rd and tonight around 2 a.m. I went to go pop on my dvd player in my room and I was thinking I haven't been on VC in awhile. So I was pretty shocked when I logged in.

But yeah it's bizarre that after having a lopsided collection of post 02 shows, I finally can get a chance to see what looks like an amazing show from early on. Especially since I was really looking forward to seeing Jay Bennett on this dvd. So it was very shocking to me to see the sad news as my dvd was loading.

    Kristofor

PS Earlier today I was watching Misunderstood and A Shot In The Arm on youtube from some festival in 1999 that doesn't list a date or venue. It's posted from Wilcoclub. Something was going through my head I guess to look up older Wilco shows. It's weird that with a new cd that I'm starting to go further back and get older shows. Now all those old shows that I've missed out on watching/listening will be sad.

    RIP Jay Bennett

  12. I'll Fight - Hmm. I'm trying to think of a certain philosophy that was brought up when The Thin Red Line came out in 1999. I remember there was confusion over which actor was which soldier because the 3 leads were relative unknowns. But there was a lengthy article about how that was deliberate to show that in war every man/woman is pretty much the same since they are dressed alike. There's a certain sense of anonymity and losing your identity.

So in reference to the song, I think the idea that I keep toying around with is the point that when all is said and done it really didn't matter who went to war in the first place anyways. Both people would maybe end up dead possibly not being able to be identified either. Almost like the irony that in such a situation someone could actually "sell" or "buy" their way into a war for some reason. I don't know how that would work with the draft.

But it does also sound like a class struggle. Both men apparently have separate motivations. I'm sure each has a woman they're doing it for too. But one woman will be a widow because her situation is most likely in the poor class.

So I guess what I'm trying to get around to is this: if guy dies and can't be identified than there's great tragedy in that he did it for nothing and obtaining a burying place was a waste. Except for his love whom I am sure is set now. Romantic.

  13. Speed Racer,

I like your idea about Bull Black Nova. It's interesting when I have panic attacks, I want to abandon my body sometime. Awful feeling.

So I think the idea that the song is kind of set in a car that is known as a muscle car for speeding makes sense. Almost like running away from yourself or your problems. In fact, the song does kind of sound like what a car chase or rather speeding away from nothing would sound like. There's definitely a feeling of stuff catching up to the song narrator in the lyrics and melody. Bernard Herrmann would be proud.

There's also hints of either hypochondria or really hurting yourself in the lyrics.

    Kristofor

PS BTW, what was your exact relapse you had in mind ?

Edit: 2 things that I forgot to mention.

    1. I think I hear Keep Calm or Pick Up (like listed in the lyrics section) at the end.

    2. I mean this in the best way possible...doesn't Bull Black Nova feel much longer than it is?

  14. I'll Fight - To me the song is so good that it has a different meaning every time I play it.

I think the repeated part is sort of a tongue in cheek "brainwashing" reference either from a soldier's or lover's perception. People being trained to kill for love of their country or for the love of a lover or both.

I still think I hear "I'll vote" in the first 30 seconds of the song. Which makes it even more interesting.

But all of that being said I still think the underlying sentiment is very heartfelt. Like some have mentioned along the same lines as say When The Roses Bloom Again or At My Window Sad & Lonely.

  15. So does anyone have any ideas or suspicions about what songs on this album will get the Please Be Patient With Me and Leave Me Like You Found Me treatment in concert? I can't think of any. I think everything has a good shot of being played and rotated. I am interested to see how they pull off Deeper Down live.

I guess for me the three songs I can't wait to hear live or on a boot that hopefully surfaces over the next month: Bull Black Nova, Everlasting, Deeper Down.

It'll be interesting to see how far apart they keep Spiders and Bull Black Nova from each other in the sets. Or maybe not at all.

That being said, I'm really super excited now to see Wilco in July with 11 amazing songs to look forward to hearing.

  16. Wow! :thumbup

I'll admit at first listen in my room with the sound not too loud, I was a bit let down. In fact, the song that I loved the first time around was Solitaire. I didn't get to appreciate Bull Black Nova on first listen.

But than I got into my car at 2a.m. and drove around. That's when this album really hit me.

I know for me Deeper Down was really a WTF moment. Where most bands, imo, would put this near the end of a record, Wilco puts it 2nd. But I've listened to this song the 2nd most out of all the others. I love the lyrics and music. I can't wait to read the lyrics. Some of the lyrics get washed out. Hell Is Chrome, in that same 2nd slot, had a similar effect on me on first listen. But now that's one of my favorites.

I'm glad that One Wing was shortened. I was a bit surprised by the layered vocals in the middle coming out of the solo. It'll be interesting to see if this one gets extended in concert like the Lollapalooza version which I like just as much.

Bull Black Nova :worship I'll say this, the first time I thought I was listening to Funkytown or Safety Dance but in the best way possible. LOL. Also, Jeff gives Peter Steele a run for his money on writing lyrics apparently about killing one's girlfriend. Must have listened to this one at least 20 times or more. Every time it gets better. The song reaches levels of intensity on record that I can't imagine where they'll take this song live. I picture Via Chicago and this being roommates on this tour as a very interesting 1-2 punch.

It was a brilliant decision to follow a song with themes that Bull Black Nova has with You And I. I laughed. Beautiful song. Definitely that moment where you go "how can this be on the same album let alone from the same band."

When I first heard Country Disappeared it reminded me of John Lennon. It still maintains some of that while going in a different direction too.

Solitaire- I had no clue how this would sound with the band after hearing this solo. But it works oh so well. The strumming and everything going on is amazing.

I love the feel of I'll Fight. I really enjoyed this along w/ Country Disappeared from the Bridge School Benefits. Someone awhile back mentioned an older song from the 50s/60s that reminded them of I'll Fight. I definitely hear a lot of eras going on in this.

Sunny Feeling is the most fun song and best singalong of the bunch. Even if the lyrics are hard to keep up with or rather decipher. One live version I have from last August it sounded like Jeff was making up lyrics. It sounds like that here. But once again in the best possible way. Sonny Corleone music video in the wings?

Everlasting is just gorgeous. Another song I had no idea how'd it end up.

Overall, I'm very satisfied and I am still left with that great feeling that you know this love affair is in its early stages. There's stuff to be discovered on each listen type of feeling. I loved Sky Blue Sky on first listen and still love it. But I tend to listen to the live versions more often. I really can't wait to hear how these grow in a live setting and which songs become fan favorites.

It's great being a Wilco fan right now,

    Kristofor

PS Speed Racer and Sir Stewart and anyone else that loves a great driving song--You can add Bull Black Nova to that list. Definitely, going to get some tickets for playing that one.

  17. Thanks to Luke, Conor, and Mike!!! :worship

If anyone would like this in the next 10 minutes before I take this to my car and drive around with it.

I just finished putting together a 15 slide Power Point presentation and am ready for Grad School to finish. This is so amazingly perfect now. Wow.

    Extremely Surprised!

I'll keep trying on the net. If I find I'll forward my PM to someone else.

    Kristofor

    PS Here We Go !!!

    :worship

PPS No more talk about Jay Bennett and album covers for at least 2 weeks. lol.

  19. Please Be Patient With Me sounds like a good mantra at this church.

I was thinking of how many people I peddled Wilco to in the past. One such friend called me a Wilco Peddler. LOL.

7 people. 1 liked them but didn't follow through or something like that. Although he did go see them once. But all 7 have seen Wilco and came away blown away.

But yeah at least half of them have gone to that place where they seek all Wilco music and do that on their own and don't have me make them live cds or album mixes.

It's nice to be able to share this band with people close to me.

    Kristofor

PS Yeah, every time I leave a Wilco show it is pretty amazing. I feel like I can take on King Kong. I'd probably be eaten by him but oh well. For someone who has never done drugs or even drinks, I'd take my Wilco high any day. In fact, I think it's safe to say and maybe it isn't said enough: thanks to all the tapers out there who have really helped created this "culture" of Wilco. I don't know if I can say I'd love them as much without having countless bootlegs to play whenever I want.
