  1. I figured I'd take us back to talking about this current closing weekend of the 2010 MLB regular season. It will be quite an exciting weekend and we'll know where the pieces fit for the Post Season. NL East Champion Phillies take on the Wild Card leading Braves in a weekend matchup that could send the Braves home a tad bit early, if they sweep them and the Padres win. (side note: I almost shit my pants when I clicked on the MLB site for the current standings and it was set to 2002. I thought I may have been in a coma to see the AL West belong to the A's.) NL Wild Card: Atlanta Braves
  2. Good story above. And something that I left out in my initial post on this topic, I would like to add now. To me the P90X (or your garden variety "fad" diet) is some temporary solution to what could possibly be a long term problem (weight gain or even to maintain health). I really think people to need to look at the "problem" in terms of a lifestyle change and not jump onto anything for a quick fix. Usually, that may work but only for a 6 month period or whatever. Then it's onto the next "fad" diet or exercise creation:
  3. I typically workout on a treadmill for about 45 minutes to an hour almost 5 days a week. I used to play my iPod loud, but then it effected my hearing a bit and threw me off a bit in terms of my equilibrium. The Unnecessary Preachy Moment: It's all diet really, obviously. People ask me what I've been doing to lose weight and I tell them 60% diet and 40% exercise. I've cut out putting butter on bread and on baked potatoes. I don't go out to eat as much as I used to back in the day. I almost nearly eliminated soda from my daily diet. I like to have one can of Caffeine Free Coca Cola around di

  5. Sir Stewart is just trying to rekindle that old thread.

  7. I think it was Jon Stewart that called Myspace "the abandoned amusement park". Then what does that make Friendster?
  8. And then there's this place and others like it.... I don't see much difference in terms of what is being said that is either "important" or "random" on here or Facebook.
  9. Facebook is obviously what you make of it and what you put into it. I use it to mostly network and keep in touch with people that I went to school with all the way back to kindergarten. It's quite nice to keep in touch with people this way and to have the possibility of making plans with these people to meet them in the flesh. Now on the other hand it is quite foolish to post everything and every little detail that you do that lets people break into your house and/or stalk you. And not to mention the fact that potential employers have a free pass at not hiring a detective on your past whi
  10. I also forgot to point out how many people have to change their name so they don't receive prejudice due to their religion or ethnicity. And all of the people who have to hide their sexuality to provide viewer "confidence" and "big" box office receipts. The idea seems like the people "in charge" make the decisions that the mass audience can't buy into a gay man portraying the lead in a potential box office smash of a romantic comedy, so they tell that actor or actress to keep it a secret. I'm sure there are a lot of times when the actor or actress keeps it a secret or ambiguous before the stud
  11. I guess to get to the more questionable stuff of late I will use Sarah and Bristol Palin as an example. How many people bought into her "persona" and then she quit her job? Then she wound up with a book, now she has a reality show coming in November and then her daughter is on Dancing With The Stars. Really?! WTF!? At what point do people wake up & start getting cynical and saying stuff like "well, I put my stock into her and now she jumped ship and is out to make money and be less political or so it seems for now until 2012." I don't expect Obama to have a fishing show when he is out o
  12. In the end of all of this "hype" I hope that people question more things that go on in the "media circus". This may be the biggest example of that for a lot of people to think about and revaluate certain areas out there that may seem questionable. I don't know if that was worth risking their careers over. Edit: What I am talking about really is all of the focus on Britney, Lindsay, Paris, Kim, the one with the G implants, and sadly I can't think of any male celebrity. Interesting. Is this pointed focus on these "celebs" to serve as a morality play on a larger scale? I wonder how many parent
  13. That's not entirely out of ego, but more out of cynicism from knowing or feeling that you are or have been duped before by people in the spotlight. This seemed like an immediate Giant Red Flag went off for me and I said "OK. I get this." during the Letterman bit. It was the cynic in me that said that that wasn't real. I'm not trying to imply that "those people" are or were naive, I guess my bigger point is that truthfully they don't give enough of a shit about it and just view it on an entirely surface level. Plus, on top of all of that: this guy is an actor. That's his job. And on another s
  14. People hide behind masks all the time. No one really knows if Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, or Sarah Palin are for real. Stephen Colbert makes a living off this type of entertainment. He's the best at it in my opinion. I can begin a show and take on a completely phony persona and no one would know. Why would I want to do that in the 1st place? Truthfully, I guess I feel that I would want to make a statement that you shouldn't believe everything that you see, read or hear about in the media.
  15. The film is merely a statement on "our" fixation on the nature of celebrity. I remember how many people talked about how Joaquin was losing it after they saw how he was on Letterman. People bought into it because some of us out there want their stars to burn out and it will give them something to talk about and say "there goes another actor losing themselves to drugs". I knew that it was an act as soon as Phoenix talked about doing a hip hop career and then shortly thereafter it was mentioned that Affleck would be filming it for a "documentary". Affleck said that this is indeed not a docume
  16. You make it sound like it is a bad thing. Like they are not completely fulfilled to be in Wilco as a collective. I think of it like an actor or a director or a screenwriter. Once an actor or director finishes a project they move onto the next one. Likewise an actor may dabble in screenwriting or directing because they can and most likely want to do that. Or to make it even more in line with Wilco, an actor may be on a tv show (9 month commitment or so) and on their hiatus they can make a film during that time period. There's a lot of reasons to go around the merry go round on this one, bu
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7UtT08vWBk Very cool fanmade video and interesting to hear all of the songs that came out of this demo.... Edit: Why the F are the Backstreet Boys the tagged photo for the video?!
  18. LOL. Hey, in the meantime a lot of that stuff is easily findable on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqHQ-OVO0Xo&feature=related But it is nice to have on iTunes or in your car.
  19. 1. I think a few of those were on the 1990-2000 Best Of 2nd disc. Maybe it was the remix version of Lady With The Spinning Head? But I do know that I have those on my Achtung Baby cd singles. And the covers of Paint Of Black and Fortunate Son that were on the Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses cd single. I have the Berlin demos on a bootleg 3 cd set titled Salome. I really need to dig that out of my closet and upload it to iTunes. There's so much amazing stuff on there like Doctor Doctor, Heaven & Hell, & Take You Down. I also have a pro shot bootleg (a warmup shoot for the upc
  20. Achtung Baby remastered reissue in 2011? & U2 Working on 4 Projects 1. Songs Of Ascent which is being rumored to be out by the end of 2010. There's even a very recent pic of a European music site with U2 - To Be Confirmed listed for November 8th of this year. 2. "a rock album" (I wonder if this is the scrapped Rick Rubin record from a few years back?) 3. "a club music album" 4. Spider-Man musical soundtrack

  22. It's really because Nels Cline is an anagram for Nellie CNS or Nellie Can Not Stand Wilco. You see, Nellie's bandaid wields magical power over our main axeman. Please send vibes to Nels to finally lift this voodoo magic from Nellie. Look at him, will ya? The man looks guilty. He's treating Nels like his own personal voodoo doll: contorting him and shit.
  23. NSFW but worth it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkHeI7qKRPs&feature=player_embedded I can't believe how many people had to get involved to get this guy kicked out. Unreal! I also can't believe that someone had their camera phone out during such a classic. Location: Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles on Friday September 10, 2010
