I've always admired Jeff's sincerity and his desire to give back to the world. -

Nah, I'm sure she'd be "into" the "process" if you just explained.

Recently, Chicago music fan and friend to many, Lane Campbell, went missing. After an agonizing stretch of days spent searching, Lane's body was discovered in a forest preserve area. Cause of death is still undetermined, but there weren't any indications of foul play. It's an enormous loss to his many friends around Chicago's music scene. On last night's Tweedy Show, Jeff dedicated "Please Tell My Brother" to Lane's memory. Today I read this beautiful remembrance by my friend Chris Castaneda, fellow VC member and Lane's friend. I asked him if I could share it here. From Chris:

lost highway, that may not be the exact list I'd have made, but that's one fine list. You think you could burn me a cd, just in that order?

😂😂😂 I hope Glenn reads this because I know he's always looking for new percussive sounds! It might be a bit distracting though, if in the middle of the noisy part of Via Chicago, Glenn strode offstage and then returned dragging a trash can.

Holy cow, that show! Balm for the soul! John and Glenn couldn't stop smiling, and neither could I. The new song Hints is wonderful. I already want to hear it again.

Welcome to Via Chicago! TCP gave a pretty great rundown. Yeah, we all have our particular favorites. I'd encourage you to dig into Jeff's solo and Tweedy band material, too. You have a lot to enjoy discovering!

Oh that's a great backstory! So she wanted to remember how, or maybe check that her way was right. How'd you know her in HS?

I got my 2nd shot yesterday but forgot again to get a photo. So you get to see this pen. It was given to us to fill out our paperwork, and later, as we finished, I went to hand it to the nurse along with the clipboard. "Oh, this is your pen, too." She started to take it but then waved the one she was holding and said, "Nah, keep it, I already have one." Well okay, so here we have my Covid Vaccination Souvenir Pen. My arm hurts, I'm stupid with fatigue, some body aches and chills but overall, mostly more tired-feeling that actually sick. But for sure, plan to take it ea -
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Ah, but that youthfulness is what makes you so adorable. 😘 And as fewer people around you are toxic, it gets better for everyone. I am getting my 2nd shot on Monday and I'm freaking giddy to think I might finally be able to return to a semblance of normal life! I have had lung issues from babyhood because I was an extreme premie (at 5 mos.) I get bronchitis and pneumonia way too easily, so I know this disease is kryptonite for me. I haven't been inside a store since last March. It's an incredible thought that I might be able to do that again. 😊 Some light at the tunnel's end. We're g -
I need a recommendation of something uplifting...funny would be lovely, but not too slapstick. Something with substance and heart behind the jokes. Who's got one?

I appreciate you filling in the blanks!

I make a powerful case for throwing a plant into the ground, and backing away, I think. -
Gardener's Corner: How Not to Grow Carrots

I had an empty pot in the garden (still had dirt) that my bedroom looked out on. One day I was at our local nursery and I saw they had plantings of tiny carrots in those 6-well pony paks, so I brought them home and stuck them into that pot. They weren't any too thinned to begin with in their container, and I only thinned a bit and then basically forgot about them, so... They just sorta did their own thing! Calvino, thinning is murder, amirite? Plus it's excruciatingly boring.
