Thoughts on the Republican National Convention
kidsmoke replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Well, this is the most respect I've ever felt for Ted Cruz. Which, granted, is not saying much. But his statement of "Vote your conscience" took some genuine courage in the face of the rabid Trumpers at the RNC. Let's not forget that Trump stated that Ted's dad was involved in JFK's assassination. Did The Orange One really expect an endorsement? As for Chris "Lapdog" Christie, I didn't think I could possible admire him less, but it turns out I can, and do. What a Trump patsy. -

I guess somebody had to say it!

Unless we are all still underestimating just how far they will go to win the "Hungry for Power Games". Did they honestly think no one would notice??! -

I think you're right that it is less about the party than the cult of personality. -
I thought since our political thread has gotten so massive, it might be easier to discuss what we're seeing and feeling and thinking about the RNC in a separate dedicated thread. I know everyone has strong feelings about this election, so please try to keep your posts as civil as you can manage. My own thoughts? It all seems so surreal. An episode of "Who Wants to be a President?" where all the questions can be diverted by chanting, USA! USA!

If there are jackets, how far away can Schmilco really be?
-
I'm calling it first...."If I Ever Was a Child" sounds like pure summer glory and clouds piled high against a too-bright blue sky. Come to think of it, Star Wars was a summer gift, as Schmilco will apparently be too!

"And I cry/ like a windowpane".....this is already stuck in my head! Serve it up, dear Wilcos, you know patience has never been our strong suit!

I'm ready for a new batch! Any time, Wilco!

I love Sky Blue Sky! Great choice for Summer!

I'm seeing Parker Millsap in a great little club tonight! I haven't had a chance to see him before, but I know his reputation for a terrific live act. Can't wait!

Ooh, good call on Mt. Bed! The sort of story that only happens in warm weather! "Muzzle of Bees is pure summer too. Makes me think of a roadtrip. Dagwave, Joe's Field does seem to draw the extremes of weather, doesn't it?!

I was thinking about this last night as we had a summer BBQ and maybe annoyed the neighbors (a little) with a bitty stash of leftover fireworks...not super-noisy types...on a gorgeous summer night. What Wilco songs seem the most summery to you? Which tunes evoke the cloaking heat, the lazy buzz of insects, the scents and colors of ripening fruits and vegetables, the lazy I-can-get-to-it-a-bit-later attitude that goes with comfortable lawn furniture or a hammock? Or the cheerful abandon of long, late summer nights at a club? Maybe the most obvious is "Heavy Metal Drummer". When I hear t

I like it. Tweedy is nothing if not true to his conscience, and I admire that in him, and in how it comes through in the music.

I agree! They are fun movies.

Is this a confession, Dan?

Matt, I don't know how I missed this earlier, but yes, I'm in! I don't know if Brennan has any time these days for concert outings...he's getting his computer repair business up and running and expanding, so that's eating up all his time right now. But I think I'll talk him into one of the 3 nights. He won't be too hard to persuade, especially if I dangle Cole's and the Varnish. I want to see the Varnish myself, and it would be terrific to see you again! Let's talk when the date gets closer.

Happy 4th of July, all you V.C.ers from the US!

4th of July parades are great! -
Wishing everyone out there celebrating - a lovely day of sun and friends and family and fireworks! There's a lot to celebrate despite all the bad stuff! I'm headed up to Big Bear Lake to watch fireworks set off from a boat in the lake...neat with the reflections! What are you up to? Let's hope that, in these very strange times, it is a peaceful day for us all. I can't help but worry a little. What have you got planned?

Happy Fathers Day to All You Brilliant Dads!
kidsmoke replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Sounds like a very good day! -
Happy Fathers Day, all of you men blessed with offspring! They may never find the words or the right moment in which to tell you, but all those small (and large) things you just automatically do because you're "Dad" do not go as unnoticed as it might seem. Your children treasure you for every one of those things. And the older they get, the more they will be grateful for the simple but profound gift of a dad who loves them. So watch the basketball game with your feet up and snacks at hand. Today, you are king of the castle! Revel in it and have a beautiful, relaxed day!

I always overplant basil, and forget how much it loves the summer heat! I think I've still got pesto frozen from last year. But yes, I've again planted 4 big basil plants. You've got to love a plant with such enthusiasm! My peppers and tomatoes are already beginning to get the upper hand. Can't eat them fast enough. I foresee frozen diced peppers and tomato sauces. What a good dad you've got, Calvino, for keeping them watered. It's all these little things dads do that call for us celebrating them today, and everyday. I raise a tomato to your pop! Tweedling, thyme may be a little less on my
