It's very easy to put a beat down on the pop mid-late '80s era. I'd venture to say that close to none of us posting in this thread are regularly spinning Invisible Touch and the like. The period of '70 to '80, with or without Peter Gabriel, was pretty unique, though. So, I basically agree with you . . .

Listened to Highway 61 Revisited yesterday and was reminded of what a freaking masterpiece it is . . .

wow -- great writer, etc. not a big fan of ER, but I loved Andromeda Strain and Eaters of the Dead (13th Warrior), also liked Jurrasiac Park at the time plus dude was like 6'10", and that just kicks ass

wow, he fails to mention Phil is a kick ass drummer and participated in writing, along with fellow "silly walker" Tony Banks, tons of great prog tunes in the seventies, some of which put Floyd to shame

Gotta say, I don't know a lot about OCMS but when we saw Wilco at Tall Stacks in Cincinnati about 2 years back they opened and were awesome show stealers. Best opening band I've seen, wurst Wilco show I've seen but Jeff admirtted it was a bad night for many emotional reasons . . . So I still have a soft spot for OCMS, and my wife still wears her OCMS t-shirt!

I really enjoyed seeing/hearing about this. I've had On Avery Island and Aeroplane for many years and still spin them periodically For example, I have been known to play "Naomi" 10 times in continuous succession . . .

My sentiment too, I like Transmissions, Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi better (not so much Clouds TM from my personal taste) -- those are all the ones I own. But "Free Radicals" is in my head today, and the album has grown on me with each listen, which is maybe 25 times, though it's been out awhile and I got it the first week
