How Is Kicking Television holding up?
wheelco replied to Livin' in New Orleans's topic in Just A Fan
I like KT fine and am glad it was released -- what I get from many casually familiuar Wilco fans is that they LOVE it asa quintessential live album I suppose it is, I just don't dust it off much -
Somewhat yes, and I'm a big Gabriel Genesis fan. Muzzle plus Hell is Chrome together excited me at the time about Wilco's possible direction. I very much enjoy having those two songs in the catalog ... These guys have a lot of influences, though. However, I know in that freaking strange "Wilco Book" or some such place thing there was a blackboard or something with a map of rock influences that Jeff had drawn up and there was a Genesis "bloodline" present

I thought Glide had died a year or so ago ... hmmm

New Flaming Lips Album Now Streaming
wheelco replied to ThisIsNowhere's topic in Someone Else's Song
One half-hearted listen while I was doing many other things sounded good - I'll definitely buy it. -
Lurking around here just a few minutes tonight, some day I'll get back in the VC swing. The '73 Rainbow show is awesome, but the recordings that became the original Genesis Live are tops! The LA Shrine '75 LLDOB is great as well ... word is they have another master soundboard LLDOB recording as well that's being held back for some reason

OK, I missed most of this, but all of you need to get the Decemberists "The Hazards of Love" for the new Oh yeh, and KC's "Red", "Larks' Tongues" and "Discipline" for the old
-
I'll look for this - all I really know is "On Avery Island" and "Aeroplane ..."
-
youz is good folk I'll get around these parts soon and spread around the b.s.
-
Thanks folks! this is this first time I've checked in here in a while and I appreciate the thoughts. Still a Wilco fan, and I'll see them in Columbus. Maybe i'll find some timer soon to contribute some witty banter to VC and get back into the swing!!
-
Hilarious, thanks. Love YLT . . .
-
I took mine to the Swell Season in Columbus, she loved it so much that afterwards . . . I digress. They did "Astral Weeks" and a Black Sabbath song in the encore to let the drummer release some frustration after all the "folk rock". Good show, though she liked it a bit better than I did.

Okey Dokey -- so that's a big thumbs downer . . . I still like most of it, it is a little sleepy, but I need some tunes like that. Seals & Croft it's not, though.

Hi everyone, sorry I'm not around much these days. One great CD I picked up recently is Human Highway's "Moody Motorcycle" - it's the product of two of our favorite Canadians Jim Guthrie and Nick Thorburn (Islands, Unicorns). Fortunately, it's much more direct than the Islands stuff, very different indeed. I love the disc, and thought others here might too. It was actually released in August I believe - I just got it last month. My favorite tracks are "Duties of a Lighthouse Keeper", "What World", "Ode to Abner" and of course the opener "The Sound". Any other fans? If not, check it out . . .

btw, all of these singles are songs they don't want to put on the new album, so they're getting all of you to buy them separately . . . I'll buy the album and maybe a few of these songs if I'm convinced they're listenable - I do generally like the band but there's been a few completely unlistenable tunes along the way, including ones where I've thought, "I just have to have that new Decemberists' b-side" and it ends up sucking.

"Jeff Tweedy" reviews U2's Achtung Baby
wheelco replied to winter party person's topic in Someone Else's Song
you people are such f*ing cynics -
Did the bonus "Nobody's Spoonful Jam" this morning from the same disc
-
Fleet Foxes is good in my book, Cardinology is fine too (not Ryan's best in my opinion, though ...) haven't heard the other ones on your list; out of bands I listen to more I'll add REM "Accelerate" as biggest/best surprise and Stereolab "Chemical Chords" as biggest disappointment
-
I listened to the bonus "The Eleven Jam" from the remastered Aoxomoxoa this morning on the way to work and man is that good rockin' . . .
-
Fables of the Reconstruction, Life's Rich Pageant, New Adventures in Hi-Fi personal subjectivity, I know . . . I also think Accelerate is a great "comeback" rocker, but I would not rank it ahead
-
I never took the opportunity to listen to Grant or Buffalo, or whatever aficianados call him & them someone give a few pointers and recommendations to me, I like to mine treasures from the past
-
Been listening since to REM since 1983, but Murmur's not near their best . . . nonetheless, I'll get this since I want the bonus and my Murmur case etc are all beat up and shit, so why not
