  1. I've been using GHS no wax or silicone polish on my necks prior to playing. The shit is great, no getting caught on build ups. What year is this J45? I agree with the above poster although I won't hit any finish lower than 320, especially newer finishes,they seem to have only a few build coats.

  3. With french polish it's just the long and patient method building micro layers of diluted ratios. I'm nowhere near perfection,this is the true finish. I got hired on at Midwest Guitar School building my instructors archtop line and might be full time finisher. We are spraying waterbase right now and really trying to get it down. The result is great, it's just the process that can save hours of unneeded sanding. I love nitro but only spray when it is asked or called for. French Polish is something that is a lesson learned every guitar. When someone asks for the finish I ask where this guitar is
  4. I use a sanding shellac and steel wool method. Nothing wrong with just hitting it up with tripple o wool. I hit with a wet 600 sand then a few light sessions of shellac(french polish)then let it air out an hour or so and hit with fine steel wool till you can"t see any major scratches. I just did this to a bass with good results, for the body I just used steel wool alone,I like the neck a little faster of a feel than wool alone. Not rocket science at all, but I coud do it for you.

  8. You can still get a vintage LG1 for around 600.00-700.00. Seagull's never let you down,great guitars. If your in the mood for a parlor,I know of a few vintage one's.
  9. Gotta be alder, grain lines to light for walnut not enough swamp going on for ash, and hog is out of the question. I'm sure it's routed for two buckers. I would of changed that awful bridge also.

  12. I just got two Yamaha 10'' and two 12'' monitors needing atleast 800 watts of power(very minimum). I am so clueless when it comes to this shit. I'm looking to spend 200.00-500.00. I have a mixer so I'm leaning towards a rack system.
  13. I side with Rowboat once again. I think LR Baggs just sucks. I recently switched to Fishman and will never go back. Right now I'm using the Rare Earth and love it, best soundhole mic yet. For under the saddle I use the Highlander...not bad. Might try a mix of these soon. K&K might be the way to go. Heard nothing but great things about the company and alot of Pro's are blending a K&K with the Rare Earth.
  14. I don't even glue my own nuts on anymore, I will glue yours though. I use white glue on anything I can and won't touch a guitar if it doesn't need it. I like to add a thin maple strip with white glue over the existing bridge plate,or a little tape under the existing holes and epoxy/redrill does a fine job. Doll rods work wonders if drilled right. Replace it if nothing else works, but that pad has to be really f'ded up. Last bridge replacement I did was a shitty Washburn, the original was epoxied and had two doll rods on either side through the top,WTF......... a little check or two, but st
  15. Not too sure about DC but I do know for sure the the northeast has some mighty fine luthiers. The tuners a simple job but I respect a man that bows out for the sake of the instrument. I'll do it for you, but the shipping will double the price of the job. Is New York too far, great luthiers around those parts.
  16. I would care a bit more about the oringinal tunres than say a bridge plate, these things wear out all the time. There are ways to fill and redrill, that is a more common job then say regluing loose braces. Original finish does not mean non repaired, just original and maintained.   17. I'll trade you the Gibson for a Martin D-15. The D-15 has a Highlander undersaddle pup..sounds great, hard shell, feed back buster. Has been giged and used, shows wear but all repairs have been done right then and there. Light mods...bone pins, strap button and pickup. Fret board, neck and body always cleaned and polished on every string change. A guitar is a tool. I used it, I took care of it and never left a repair go unattended.
  18. Not at all man, super quick fix and cheaper in cost to do repairs on these than old style cost effective bridges. I'm replacing one right now and the actual bowing of the top is 10 times worse than any bridge repair I have ever done. Looks like it's time for the bridge doctor! Really not worth my time and money, the repair alone is worth more than the guitar itself.
  19. Are those inlays on opposite sides of the bridge bins used to cover up two screws? What was Gibson and Epi thinking? I have always loved this model.....great score!   23. Had this debate today......................thats funny shit. I'd say both are smart choice and could be talked into a lower watt amp any day of the weak. I decided not to go with the RI. It's turning out that I'm meeting some good people in the repair and luthier world. I'm making it a goal to own every fender silverface of my birth year, 78.
