  1. You can see the chart here: http://www.salon.com/sports/daily/2008/10/...hart/index.html
  2. It's not actually effecting the start of the game though, it's just interrupting the pre-game show. And the Fox pre-game show is pretty horrible, so I don't think too many people will be upset.
  3. Oh, I'm not saying that they should put him back out there when the game resumes. I just meant that, if the game had continued last night, it would have made sense to let him hit in the bottom of the inning and continue to pitch for an inning or two longer.
  4. I do have to take issue with Obama here: Am I to believe that Obama has never heard of William Henry Harrison?
  5. Right, but in this hypothetical world where Al Gore is President, you have Al Gore, the Senate's biggest environmental activist for 30 years, leading the party. This alternate world Democratic party would be following the lead of Gore instead of Kerry, Reid and Pelosi. The environment would have been a big issue.
  6. But that's assuming they lose the game. He was pitching great -- it makes more sense to me to let him to play to win this one and end the series rather than play with the assumption that the bullpen would blow this one and then they'd lose game 6.
  7. 612/1000 As this number is larger, you have a more eclectic musical preference. People with scores over 700 have bragging rights. People whose score is below 400 should consider more musical styles! The following are the artists with the most occurences in your list * Minutemen (13) * H
  8. I saw them twice back in 2000 and 2001. Not sure about the reunion shows, but back then they were pretty awesome.
  9. He only threw 75 pitches, and was looking strong all night. I think they would have let him pitch at least one more inning, maybe more.
  10. Actually, Obama is polling at pretty much the same levels that Kerry did among Jewish voters.
  11. The Phillies aren't too happy about it
  12. I agree that Democrats, as a group, picked up on the environment more after '04, but Gore personally had been hugely involved in environmental issues for decades before that, so if he had won, I think he probably would have pushed the issue to a much greater degree than Dems have even now, and I think that Gore is the primary figure in making it as big as an issue as it is, even if it would have been even greater has he been President.
  13. This is true. Younger voters in general don't care about race in the same way that older voters do. But there are a lot more older voters than younger voters. I agree that race isn't the be all and end all of why certain people don't support Obama -- there are obviously a whole slew of other legitimate and illegitimate reasons not to support him. But I also think it's naive to think that race is no longer a significant factor in politics. Just before I moved to Chicago, I witnessed an absolutely mindblowing mayoral election in Detroit in which race played a major role, even though both c
  14. You think that having the government's biggest environmental advocate win the Presidency would make his party less likely to pursue the environment as a serious issue? I think it's far more likely that Gore would have used the office to advance environmental policy far more than the Dems have attempted to since. There's obviously no way to know, but I have a hard time believing that Gore wouldn't have used the opportunity to implement policies that he'd been pushing for his entire legislative career.
  15. Eh, I don't think that's really true. I think that Al Gore is a much bigger reason. He was an advocate for the environment long before he ran for President. He made a mistake in not making a bigger issue of it in the 2000 campaign, as he didn't see it as an issue with traction. Once he lost, he re-dedicated himself to an issue that had been his primary passion for 30 years.
  16. It will be better once the talent is a little more widespread into different regions of the world. The North American, Latin American and a couple of the Asian teams were really fun to watch, but teams like Italy and South Africa were pretty lame -- I'm pretty sure the Italian team was mostly middling American players of Italian decent.
  17. Me too. I thought I was the only one though.
  18. African Americans who vote vote Democratic 80% of the time or more. But voter turnout is usually low in predominantly black areas. This time around it should be a lot higher. And I don't think it's only because Obama is black (though that certainly is a factor), but I think also greatly because he actually seems to be giving a voice to people who otherwise don't often find someone speaking for them at such high levels -- and that's not just black people, but also a lot of other people such as myself who just typically don't expect politicians at high levels of government to care about the i

  20. Yeah, calling the game after 5 would be a pretty lame way to end the World Series.
  21. If this weren't the World Series there's no way they'd still be playing this game right now.
  22. I did not know that. That would still more likely than not deliver the seat to the Republicans though.
  23. Probably not. When he was indicted, his poll numbers dropped A LOT. As time went on and he fought it, and voters felt like there was more of a chance that he was innocent, the race tightened back up again. But now that he's been convicted, he's almost certain to lose. He really screwed things up for his party by insisting on rushing the trial. Had the trial not happened until after the election, he probably would have won, and Governor Palin could have appointed a Republican to take his seat. As it is now though, the Democrat will likely win. Chalk up an unexpected seat for the Dems.
