It's been less than a day and a half since the networks called the race for Obama, and still more than 2 months until he is inaugurated. I think anything is fair game to still be talking about at this point and still not qualify as "dwelling" on it. It just happened. I'm not sure what the time limit is for talking about something of such a great historical magnitude, but I am absolutely certain that it's longer than 36 hours.

But all the coverage I've seen has also talked about other things quite a bit alongside the mentions of Obama's race. There's been no lack of analysis of Obama's campaign strategy, his ability to out the vote, his strong ground game, etc. But who is saying that he was elected because of his race? I haven't seen anyone saying that other than the Limbaugh types. The mainstream coverage hasn't said anything of the sort, at least that I've seen.

Nah, he's a Sox fan.

The world's reaction to Obama's win
MrRain422 replied to Party @ the Moontower's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
My brother lives in Abuja, Nigeria, and he tells me that the Nigerians were more excited than most of the people he talked to back home. -
Got my dog at PAWS and I volunteer there about once a week. Great organization. That would be awesome if the Obamas adopted from there. It's a pretty discredited system though. They don't really explain how they weigh things, and coincidentally the frontrunners for the Dem nomination get named "Most Liberal" pretty much every single time. We never see how someone will govern until they are elected. The same pundits were decrying Obama's tax plan, which you're calling conservative, as pure Socialism.

The city showed itself capable of handling an excited crowd last night. I couldn't believe how smoothly entry to the park was, even with the increased security measures (secret service all over, metal detectors, frisking). Based on my other experiences with large crowds in Grant Park, I had assumed the city to be completely incapable of it. And yeah, they had a lot of help this time around (from the federal government, the Obama organization, and an incredibly well behaved crowd), but I was still impressed. Not sure if they could pull it off for longer than a night, but if last night is an

I keep seeing all sorts of conservative pundits on TV talking about how Obama was not elected to run a liberal administration, but that the people want him to be a centrist and to appeal to Republicans. Not sure by what basis, other than conventional wisdom, they're saying this on, but it occurred to me that a lot of the people saying that now are the same ones who were yelling from the mountaintops that Obama is "The Most Liberal Member of the Senate". Many of them cried it repeatedly throughout the campaign. Now, I don't believe that Obama is anywhere near the most liberal Senator, but sh

I was wrong. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, based on the fact that it's the same electorate that elected Stevens and that douche Don Young, not to mention that lady I've been seeing on TV for the last 6 weeks or so.

I think he'll be sorta busy.

My lady and I at the rally last night.

This is also the first time I've voted for a winner for President -- my first Presidential election was in 2000.

How long did you wait in line to vote?
MrRain422 replied to Serak_the_Preparer's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I waited for about 20 minutes at 6:15 this morning. I'm in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. -
Should be, but for a lot of people it isn't. Social pressure reigns supreme. I think it's good to remind your friends to vote.
-
I got to the polling place at 6:10 this morning (the polls open here at 6:00) and there was already a 20 minute line. And this is one of the states that isn't really going to count, so if voters in the swing states turn out today it might get a little crazy. My mom, who lives in Michigan, said that she was told to expect up to a 5 hour wait when she goes after work today.

Anyone who is unsure of how to guess an electoral number, try this site: www.270towin.com You can just click which states you think each candidate will win and it will tell you what the electoral vote total would be under that scenerio. I've got Obama 344-194.

What questions do you think should be asked?

I really like this show.

Yeah, but this "radical professor" got $490,000 from a group headed by John McCain, so I think that pursuing this particular smear doesn't make any sense.
-
I'm on the waiting list. I doubt I'll get tickets.

Hey, the Tigers could use a DH. Do you think the Red Sox would be interested in Dontrelle Willis and the rights to Todd Jones, should he choose to come out of retirement?
