  1. I'd love a chance to go to one of his shows, but I think a US tour is pretty unlikely.
  2. I LOVE this movie, and I think I need that t-shirt. ^ Billy Mitchell...what a guy.
  3. This statement, along with Wendy's enthusiasm, has convinced me that I need to listen to some Califone.
  4. If I didn't have such a high student loan payment every month, I'd be stimulating the hell out of the economy.
  5. I have to try and see them on this tour! I'm very (pleasantly) surprised about the pricing.
  6. Well said. ^ As an aside, I kinda like Ray Magliozzi's idea, although I'm admittedly a Car Talk fangirl.
  7. Both. She regularly goes to Florida (flight takes about 2 hours) to see my sister, but also has plans to go to Ecuador and South Africa in the near future. I think she'd get a lot of use out of it, but I'm still hesitant. She's not really technologically savvy and she gets frustrated with her laptop a lot, but then again I would think using a Kindle is pretty straightforward. Interesting (and nice of your brother to let you take a look at it). I'd love to see one in person, but I don't know anybody who has one.
  8. I'll be at the Knoxville show but would LOVE a Cincy or Louisville show, too!
  9. Well, I'm not a huge fan of his voice either, but for me it's more indifference than hatred.
  10. I can't think of even one person on here who hates Son Volt...I guess the HMD paragraph was just a lame attempt at humor.
  11. Any thoughts on Kindle 2? I'm thinking about getting one for my mom for her birthday, but she LOVES books - loves to highlight, underline, read in the bath, etc. - and I don't know if she'd like an electronic version as much. However, she DOES travel a lot, and to me it seems like it'd be a great thing to have on a plane. I'm torn.
  12. Oh man, I have a lot of love for Brian Fantana.
  13. I couldn't really care less who likes them or how many fans they've picked up. I'm usually a latecomer to bands anyway (hell, I hadn't even heard of Wilco until a month or so before A Ghost is Born came out), so I have no room to act like I'm better than newer fans. I think there's a huge difference. Listen to Red Morning Light or Genius followed by Crawl or Sex on Fire. The new stuff is too slick and/or over-produced, IMO. We can agree to disagree. And no, music doesn't have to be "new and original" for me to listen to it...I just have to like it, and I don't like the new KoL stuf
  14. Absolutely...the concept of "selling out" is pretty wishy-washy. I guess I was just trying to put into words why I've been put off by KoL recently. I don't think they're terrible (and like I said, I really love a lot of stuff they've done), I just don't like the new direction they're taking (what I perceive as a new direction).
  15. I think it's sad because I feel like back then (first couple albums), they were making the music that they wanted to make, regardless of how big or small the audiences were. As a result, I've been lucky enough to see them at a bunch of great venues, and the shows were really fun (I liked the gritty rock, I liked Caleb's gravelly voice and the barely decipherable lyrics, I liked all the long hair and beards...but I digress). For some reason, they got this huge chip on their shoulders about being big in Europe but not here, and they wanted to do something about that. So (without trying to sou
  16. I love the first two albums, but they lost me with the most recent two (although there are a few songs that I kinda like on Because of the Times). To me, it feels like they're doing whatever they need to do to sell out huge arenas and appeal to the lowest common denominator. I wish they had stuck with the kind of rock they were making on Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak.
  17. Well, considering Conan picked a song that doesn't really feature drums, Jack had to find something for her to do. Edit: I was thinking more about her guitar part. She sings along pretty regularly when they play live.
  18. See, I didn't pick up on that at all. To me, he didn't look any more unusual than he does during most of his performances.
  19. It made me really happy to see them performing together again. That's a great song, and IMO it meant a lot more for them to put something like that together than to show up and phone in Seven Nation Army or something. Good stuff. Edit: Not just "IMO"...apparently Conan requested that song.

You mean the long-ass AGIB tour? Good times. I miss the visuals.
