  1. I was just referring to the fact that Jack had always been adamant about recording White Stripes albums in an "old-school" way...no computers or digital equipment. Elephant was recorded at Toe Rag Studios in London which only uses 8-tracks and other old equipment, and the other albums were in large part recorded in Jack's house. Kinda...lo-fi. For Icky Thump, though, they used a modern recording studio.
  2. Holy shit, I was just reading about that! St. James Infirmary Blues, I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart, You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket, Astro, The Union Forever, Black Jack Davey... Lots of rarities in there! See, Dude...this is why we have to go see them twice in a row.
  3. Pretty dismal...I see (what would be) several other conflicts for me, too. Makes me kinda glad I didn't decide to splurge on a trip to Austin this year.
  4. That would be fantastic. Another one I'd love to hear is Across the Universe...although I guess these are really more "dream cover songs" for a Tweedy solo show.
  5. No, I don't have that. I did hear a sample of "Baby Brother" on the Japanese iTunes store, though...sounds very Gene Vincent. I can't wait to hear the full song. I love the fact that Jack is still doing unexpected/crazy covers like that. It makes me think of "Look Me Over Closely".
  6. I want to see Modest Mouse, and I want to see Band of Horses...but not in a place like this:
  7. It was great to meet a bunch of you before the show (thank again for the beautiful beads, Tracy!). Good luck with your car issue, Mtn. Bed and Poca! As for the show itself: it was solid and they sounded great as usual. No real surprises, though. My favorite part was probably Poor Places -> Spiders...for a second I thought they were doing a new ending to Spiders, and I was like, " :hmm", but then they started rocking again. Also, it sucks that the "wayback machine" only takes us back as far as YHF these days.
  8. By this time next week, I probably will have listened to it a couple hundred times, so stand by...
  9. I thought the same thing. After listening to the stream once, I can't say I love Prickly Thorn or St. Andrew, and I think I like the first (live) incarnation of Little Cream Soda better than the album version. Otherwise, I think the album's great. I need to sit with it for awhile before I can rank it among their other albums, though.
  10. I've got a soft spot for "Don't Bring Me Down."
  11. Wendy, you rock. I'm hoping to get there by 6:00. What time does the show start?
  12. If it were a non-court day, I wouldn't hesitate for a second! I'll drive like a bat out of hell if I have to...surely even if I get out of work a little late, I'll be able to get there in time to hang out for awhile. My confidence is building.
  13. Let me know what time you're meeting, and get me a seat just in case!
  14. I can understand what Alison (and others) are saying, and there's no GOOD way to end such a great series in a satisfactory way. It just felt a little anticlimactic, after weeks of speculation like: is Tony going to die? Is Paulie going to flip? is Tony going to prison? etc. I know the show's about more than just people getting whacked and other fireworks...I guess I just wanted a little more resolution.
  15. Nicholson's sounds good, being right across from the venue and all. I don't know if I'll get there early enough to stop by, because I can't leave for the show until after work, but I'll do my best.
  16. Me too. Although I've already heard 6 of the songs...
  17. Unfortunately, when I was a kid I loved this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dIH8xctqGUw
  18. I do like that button, though.
  19. Now "Rag and Bone" is available on iTunes...holy shit, it's crazy! And I love it.
  20. There's some other stuff in there, too. I thought it was great...it really shows how creative everybody involved had to be in order to get some amazing, unique sounds...considering the engineers didn't have much to work with in those days.
  21. I'll be there. I haven't given much thought to my outfit yet, though.
