Really nice interview, but it was a bit sad that there needed to be a footnote in the story explaining who Brian Jones was. We are living in the time of the passing of the musical Giants of the Rock generation. Soon, it will cease to be memory and become the fodder of history books.

You watch too much television. And this "spend(ing) a great deal of time and energy criticizing the place they have gone to, while talking incessantly about how great their home state is..." attitude is certainly not limited to New Yorkers and Texans. I will tell you this, the time I went to London and wore my Jeans and Boots indicated to me that the English can readily identify Texas and guess what? Didn't hate me.

Yes, there are opt out clauses...but there also no NO TRADE clause either. Both sides gave on this deal. -

That brings to mind my Radiohead moment. I was picking up my daughter (Magic Kristen) from College on her Thanksgiving Break. D-man was with me (he was too young to drive). Magic had me put KID A into the cd player and while I sped through the pitch black Central night, I was transfixed by EVERYTHING IN IT RIGHT PLACE. It was actually a bit surreal and, while not quite the totally transforming moment, it is a moment that certainly sticks with me. -

As someone who has visited you fine state on several occassions, I might say that the reception that one gets from the natives once they find out a person is from Texas matches the temperature on Pikes Peak in December: decidedly chilly. Besides, apparently nobody likes Texans on this board except those of us who are actually from the Lone Star State.

Texas UH...don't come. The roads are already too crowded. Thanks

You obviously don't understand the deliscious nature of schaedenfreude. -
A musical road to Damascus moment. That single moment in time where the scales fell away from your ears and you heard an artist in a way that changed your perspective on them forever. (get ready for a crow daddy missive!) I have three. Interestingly, these moments involve women dancing. None of this is nearly as sordid as it could sound. Two of them are well past innocent. The first one happened in the fall of 1980 (may have been December). I was off at college, it was a Friday night and I was suffering from the flu. I had four records set up on my turntable in my room (Bruce Springsteen's

Every time I start to get a little burnt out...I get drawn back in. This is a damn good working band. Even though I've heard these songs 100 times, these performances make me feel young again. -

On another note, I was shocked when Elvis' extension was announced. Especially since he is a client of Scott Boras. This will have some interesting ramifications for the Rangers. I am fully convinced that the Rangers will not be trading Profar. His upside is just too appealing. This means that Ian Kinsler had better get a first baseman's mitt broken in and also start taking some fly balls. I don't have any idea if the Rangers wil fall apart like they did in 2000 after they let a two time all-star, power hitting man child outfielder, but I am really interested in seeing how this club deals wi -

There are now officially NO second guessers in Texas about the decision to let CJ walk and sign Darvish. (Not that there were any I was aware of). Darvish was masterful last night. He is so polished and poised. Easily the best pitcher to come out of Japan. He is certainly the ace of the Rangers staff. -
Mark Hasse was assassinated several weeks ago. The perps machine gunned the DA and his wife in their home. I think if the FBI had a clue, they would have rolled them up. White Supremacist gangs now going after Prosecutors and DAs? These guys are showing they can pop whoever they want, whenever they want.

There is a really interesting a scary story playing out in North Central Texas. Investigators are chasing links and leads between the assassination of Colorado Department of Corrections chief Tom Clements and the murders of Kaufman County Prosecutor Mark Hasse and Kaufman County DA Mike McLelland. Evan Spencer Ebel, an Ex-Con identified as the chief suspect in the murder of Clements was kiiled in a shootout after a chase in Decatur, Texas. It appears he was heading in the direction of Kaufman. There is talk that the Aryan Brotherhood may be involved. Both Hasse and McLelland were involved in

The core issue here isn't about denying people the ability to love each other...that is the emotional hook that sells the story. I am so far past the desire to make moral judgements on sexual issues that I don't even acknowlege either sides arguements on the moral grounds. The more important issue deals with the legal bindings that accompany marriage: benefits, insurance, inheritance. These issues are infinitely more important than the ability to call someone your husband or wife. THAT'S why I support gay marriage. I have heard enough horror stories about these legal issues once a partner

Polygamists are nice people...haven't you seen SISTER WIVES? Haven't you seen BIG LOVE? But it's a choice...therefore they haven't the right? Just bomb throwing here, but if society is supposed to non-judgemental and Moralblind (to coin a phrase), then any arguements or concerns about what people do in their private lives are going to be out of bounds.

Michelle Shocked - born again, homophobic bigot?
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to Oil Can Boyd's topic in Someone Else's Song
For some it exists just as long as they agree with the artist's opinions. I have a more pure and unyielding opinion. "I don't care what you think about gays or the rich, I don't care what you think about race relations or war. How about expressing an opinion of string theory? You are just as qualified to discuss sub-atomic Nuclear physics as you are Politics, Religion, the economy or morals" -
Michelle Shocked - born again, homophobic bigot?
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to Oil Can Boyd's topic in Someone Else's Song
And I find it really ironic and more than a bit amusing that 'progressive' folks get bent out of shape when an artist espouses opinions that they don't agree with. I am not a big fan of any artist expressing any sort of political opinions. It speaks of hubris to my mind. I get just as irritated at the prospect of Michelle Shocked bashing gays as I do listening to Bruce Springsteen espousing economic equality. Michelle Shocked portrayed herself is what can be considered as being at least Bi-sexual earlier and Bruce Springsteen has more money than God. Glass houses and such. -

If you delve into her background, the first words that come to mind are "mentally ill" and "time bomb waiting to explode". -
I wonder if the shooter's mom bought the weapon pre-1994 or post 2004? And I think an automatic pistol would have caused just as much havoc. However; if he had been treated for his obvious mental health issues.... I have not had a lot of first hand experience with gun violence and I have never owned a firearm of any sort. I have family members who are rabid firearms afficianados. However, I have had first hand experience with the appalling state of mental health treatment in this country. I don't think guns will ever go away, but I have hope that eventually there will be recognition that the
