  1. :rotfl Does he blame the federal government for this? Does he realize that even after seceding, the same local government would still shut him down?

There is no rationalization here. The guy is angry. And probably not very sophisticated. (Both points are really very obvious).

In the past, Secessionists have been fringe dwelling nuts. Now, things are...different. Still on the fringe, still nutty...but now getting attention. Positive attention...negative attention...but attention all the same.

Just remember, these divisions in American society have existed from the beginning. At times of great stress and turmoil, what were considered fringe elements became mainstream. The Great Depression led to a flowering of the influence of the progressive elements that ultimately led to (among other things) the end of de jure segregation and a changing of the public psyche with respect to race relations.

Not saying that we are seeing the beginning of a great separation; just saying that you ignore or ridicule these 'movements' at you own risk. People find common cause and they find other items of common ground.

  2. Seriously, did you guys see this list?

Yeah...they really ceased being a viable creative entity when Entner left in 1974. Rob Grill soldiered on until 77. Anything after 1980 is an oldies circuit band.

  3. I like when Jon Stewart played a clip from Wonka about the people who wish to secede:

"Oh no.... stop... don't go...." barely batting an eyelash.

Here's the thing that bothers me: Once the subject is broached, it means that there is a significant enough number of people who feel that way. And you wonder how many more feel that way or would support it but won't sign a petition. And it is looking like it's an idea that is creeping out of the tinfoil hat wearing fringe.

We like to think we are a civilized society, but we seem to be tottering on the brink of a breach that cannot be mended.

If Romney had won, do you imagine Mr. Obama's supporters wouldn't be grousing or worse?

  4. Oh my gosh I am so embarrased.....

I just find it funny that so many righties are talking about going to Canada or Austrailia, both places with socialized medicine and in Canada's case gay marrage. Most places are more progressive than the USA that they want to go to.

    LouieB

It's nothing new. Alec Baldwin and Barbra Streisand were going to move if Bush won. Whining is the byproduct of losing. And Graceless in the byproduct of winning.

There's nothing new under the sun.

  5. The Latino vote has been a big topic in post election discussion. After reading this article I'm thinking the GOP had better start taking Spanish as a second language courses. They are going to have a lot of wooing to do, and I don't think "cracking down on immigration" is about to get any more popular.

    We'll see.

I can forsee a Marco Rubio/Ted Cruz in 2016 and possibly George P Bush in the 2020 mix. Maybe actual hispanics will trump pandering. Maybe not.
