  1. Tube socks up to the knees, I'm sure. I know. You started on this board when you were 12, right?
  2. Oh yeah. The list is endless. Zep, Yes, Wilco...and of course the Dead. I have to say that the albums that have really held up for me are the last two and Revovler.
  3. Trey will be playing the part of Garcia. We did have to deal with the Reeboks, aerobic socks, pony tail and pink guitar. Who am I kidding...Ioved all that shit.
  4. I wonder how they compare to Zoso? They are supposed to be pretty good. They do 3 night stands here all the time. Last year they did I, II, III on consecutive nights. Kind of cool. Jason is good, but I think Dave Grohl would've been so great for the O2 gig. Hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago. The time for any reunions is going fast.
  5. I wish I could go back and listen to the Beatles for the first time again. They were almost too good...if that is possible.
  6. When the song is good, the production is less of an issue. Big Log, Heaven Knows...those are good songs. For some reason I've always thought that dudes who work at Guitar Center only listen to solo Plant
  7. Damn that 80s production! Ruined Plant's solo stuff too. Still does...IMHO.
  8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page_and_Plant Tour '95. I had such high hopes for that album. It had some moments, but really wasn't that well produced. Jimmy seemed to still be doing all that near eastern stuff etc. I did like the No Quarter set from '94. They looked so damn cool. Did you see the tour, Aman? I should've. Just was burned out with Zep at that point in my life.
  9. Cool read. Thanks. Dylan and Hunter did seem to dip int same well. Fenerrio, Stagger Lee, Candyman etc.
  10. I know I can look this up, but I'm pretty sure the Plant/Page tour was over at least by 97, if not sooner.
  11. His last tour was with the Crowes, not Plant. Also, the Plant/Page shows were in the early 90s, not 98' right?the As far as this being something different...could be good or bad. I have to say when I was skimming the article 'Outrider' caught my eye. For a split second I thought he was re-releasing it or playing it on tour!
  12. listened to 10/26/89 from the 80 trips box set. very weird pre drums. Estimated>Blow Away!>Jam*>Dark Star. I guess Jerry and Phil left the stage and it's essentially a Brent/Bob jam. All these inverted chords and such. Jerry took the hint and called DS…i could see that having gone another way with Bob calling Picasso Moon or something. wouldn't have surprised me.
  13. Chaos has always been the goal in the mideast. It's good for business and politics.
  14. Chances are basically zero that you'll be gunned down by anyone…be it a terrorist or whatever. Now if you owned a gun, those chances go way up. If we really wanted to decrease our death rates we'd quit eating crap and driving cars. We have more of a chance dying by 'walking' or 'suicide' than from terrorists. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2013/04/16/eight-facts-about-terrorism-in-the-united-states/
  15. Right. It seems there was a moment of relief when Obama got elected just because it was an end of the Bush years. Your concern about what comes next is probably not too far off. Terrorism is an issue, obviously. But hasn't a decade of the War on Terror just caused more terror? I know this is nothing new. We're an insane country doing the same thing over and over again. This ridiculous scapegoating of Muslims is so irrational and ridiculous. The US is as guilty as the next 'radical Muslim group' Not to mention the deluded double standard when comparing to Christian terrorists. I've ha
  16. Ignoring the fact that an American has about .02% chance of being injured, much less killed in a terrorist attack…check Ignore the fact that people are hurt and die every day from things we could easily change (hunger, treatable disease)…check Ignore the increasing misery of the middle class (you and me) that is obviously caused by the power of an elite super rich class…check Ignore the fact that the number of people killed by American drones/bombs makes terrorist fatalities seem insignificant (they're not)…check Ignore any kind of reason, social, economic or historical context and just do the
  17. I'd love to have an x-mas tree that was all Dead and Star Wars.
  18. ABB was a well oiled machine that played with precision. Good every time. I can see why the core 4 want to do things on their own. All of our/my/their attempts to 'carry on' or 'recapture' GD were well intentioned but essentially impossible.
  19. You make an excellent point. It was a super fun time and they really did in Dead style. Moments of brilliance. Kind of like the last 3 years of the Jerry years. And the FTW run was definitely better than much of the latter day stuff. I appreciate your post. As a die hard fan sometimes I get so damn reactionary!
  20. Me too. So much potential. Watching Karan makes me think he really could've held his own without Kimock. He just nails it. I love his tone too. He was really underutilized in Ratdog. I really thought that incarnation would be the new Dead. With all of the original material they played in addition to the unrecorded GD tunes I thought they would do an album and tour every summer. Oh well.
  21. I just can't imagine not giving a shit enough to rehearse for a few shows much less a 50% anniversary culmination event that was to be telecasted and the return of the 'Grateful Dead'. I just wouldn't do it. What audacity and such a big fuck you to the fans. Alas, the fans made it good. However, the more I hear about what actually went on the more I lean toward not liking the band and it's legacy. It ends with a version of one of their most intricate songs but they don't even bother working on it? Just absolutely ridiculous. 'I want to do attics, but not really rehearse it!' Whatever!
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAzRUDCNTtA Other Ones '98. Karan is great. Best post jerry line up, imho. Tight, young(er) and well rehearsed.
  23. Yes! I'm going to Ohio for xmas. May try to get up there. That's a cool website with some interesting recommendations.
  24. Magnolia Thunder Pussy was the greatest record store name ever! Columbus Ohio. Might stil be there. We still have a bunch in Atlanta. One recently opened focused only on vinyl. Best Buy did have a pretty decent selection 10 years ago. What's interesting is that tons of CDs are still sold in the U.S. The owner of Tower says that rapid expansion rather than the Internet and piracy killed them. Interesting times.
  25. This was my reasoning for not going. Phil really is missed. Best thing about the Dead was that you could focus on any one instrument and be totally satisfied. I could listen to Phil for entire songs at a time. I wonder if they'll do a summer tour with other bands.
